Anyone know if these would be any good for charging the Acer Aspire Netbook?
#3

Similar available at poundland and just as good for a quid.

This kicks out 5V @ 1A, I would imagine your netbook needs more than that.
Have a look on the bottom of the mains charger, they usually say what they output.
#6
Has any one used these?

I have one [not Belkin] that came with my FM transmitter (for my ipod) and when I plug this cigarette lighter contraption in to charge the ipod (through the fm transmitter) it causes no end of white-noise/static on the radio (when tuned to the fm transmitter freq.) In fact just having this plugged in with no cable attached introduce some annoying white-noise/static... has anyone else experience this "feature" of these things in conjunction with fm-transmitters?

Thanks very much for the info, just checked and it is 19V so not suitable.

I have one, which I use to charge my Navigo Sat Nav (running Tom Tom, a great deal from here many moons ago), (when I need it). Also will charge Iphone, Ipod, etc. The only issue is keeping the cable tidy as when running from the centre console to the vent holder or windscreen mount the cable can possibly get in the way of the gear stick or the centre console controls, etc. It is a good adaptor though and sits quite neatly in the socket as it is almost "flush" and does not protrude very much at all.
#9
check on the belkin website, there is a small list of cars this wont work in... my avensis is onebof them :(
#10
Careful with this one guys, I have a Vauxhal Astra and it's very very loose and sits proud of the hole, I ended up sending it back for a refund as it kept coming loose and not charging my ipod.

I'd imagine that it would be the same on many cars :/

I bought two from here: http://www.dealextreme.com/p/car-cigarette-powered-1000ma-usb-adapter-charger-black-dc-12v-40470

No problems and free postage.

Cold, you can get these on ebay for about a £1!
#14

yep have same one.....not used it yet though lol

I bought one like this from Poundland this week. It has twin USB ports so is more useful if you need the extra charger.
I also get some white noise when I first plug it in, and then only on the odd occasion.
Helps make my HTC Desire HD last a bit longer!

Would it be any useful for charging an ipod/iphone?

I have one similar, and it charges the iphone fine when the car is on, but as soon as you turn the ignition for the engine it doesn't.
#17
£1 in Poundland.... So this price here is not so good....

Is it a Belkin one for £1? If so, hot. otherwise no comparison.
#19
Come on people, poundland ones doesn't have Belkin's build and 1A
#20
Absolutely no comparison between the Poundland / DX unbranded versions and this one - have bought from all three and this one is by far the best and charges the widest number of items reliably because of it's power output. Do yourself a favour and spend the extra three or so pounds on this one, it's worth it. HOT.

Can you please post the link? I was looking for these yesterday. The ones on Ebay are unbranded. I bought the above one for £3.79 from amazon trade seller. This is a very good price. Hot.

I have a generic version of this which is great in the car for charging bluetooth headsets and my HTC Desire HD. Having a 1.0A version would be better particularly if you are using sat-nav.

You have to bear in mind that some cars' lighter sockets remain live after the ignition is switched off so this could potentially flatten your battery if left in not least due to the blue LED being on albeit only a small power draw. AFAIK all Ford cars have a live socket with the ignition off.
#24
Ordered one - thanks for the heads up!
#25
Other than the badge, whats the practical difference between this and the DX one then?

The DX one states its 5v 1A output also.

Got this one, works very well. The light is green instead of blue as in the Belkin one.

Wrong! I have the poundland special and it is 1A. Charges my Galaxy S as quickly as the mains charger however it does look and feel cheap compared to the Belkin plus it sticks out quite a long way so HOT for this this one!

so kafability is right then!?

got to say I wouldn't trust a cheap generic charger to charge my £300 - £400 phone, I would rather pay a little bit more and trust a name like Belkin :)

hot from me

WoW, you guys really have been sucked in with brand brainwashing !!
They ALL use pretty much the same damn electronics inside to get the job done!
Also you do realize that pretty much the majority of these are ALL built in china??

Below is the one I got for 99p off ebay:
http://****.co.uk/USB-Car-Charger-Phone-PDA-P168-I32-N99i-I9-A88-PA17-/110471173731?pt=UK_MobilePhones_MobilePhoneAccessories_MobilePhoneChargers&hash=item19b8985663

Yes I know it says it's only 500mA which is exactly what I wanted however when it arrived it was actually a 1000mA (1A) current rating :-(
(I'm building a fast & slow USB Battery Charger)

Below is some pics to show you the excellent soldering and build quality of this so called 'cheap and rubbish' product!!

http://img856.imageshack.us/img856/2673/img20110308113658.jpg

I have no qualms connecting my much loved and heavily hacked dual booting HD2 (WP7 & Android) to this very well built 'cheap' USB charger!
That might be because I'm a qualified electrician and HUGE electronics enthusiast and not some brand snob who knows nothing about the subject matter!!

Nice one. I did suspect there would be no difference, so ordered the DX one this morning!

I wouldnt be surprised if the Belkin one came from the same factory. I can't imagine it would be economical for Belkin to set up their own manufacturing facility for such a low value product.

u pay for what u get. no need to be qualified electrician. paying a little more gives piece of mind. at the end of the day, its the build quality and long lasting that we all want.
Ive bought a few ebay/poundland cheap pound chargers, they either fall apart after a week or 2 or it dont charge!

Is it safe to leave these slotted in 24/7

You dont always get what you pay for........For example, a few years back I paid about £200 for a branded monitor and it died withing a few days, whereas the cheaper unbranded ones I got to replace it (actually bought two for £270 for a dual monitor setup) are still going strong today. Also, the oober cyclonic vaccum cleaner *cough - Dyson - cough cough* we paid a couple of hundred for blew up after two days whereas the £80 cyclonic vaccum cleaner *cough - Hoover - cough cough* (I really need to get that cough looked at (_;) ) is still going strong.....

So this is a good deal for a Belkin branded charger, BUT there are cheaper alternatives available which will do exactly the same job.......

Voted HOT because it is the best price for a Belkin charger but I personally would buy a cheaper alternative!

Yes, it would take many many years for an LED to drain a car battery to the point of it causing a problem. Plus you have the added benefit of it looking like an alarm on a dark night :-)

''u pay for what u get. no need to be qualified electrician. paying a little more gives piece of mind. at the end of the day, its the build quality and long lasting that we all want.''

You have obviously never heard of re-badging/branding!!!
Companies do it all the time, they find out whats a good piece of kit and simply slap a new case on it with their brand/logo and then place a massive mark up on it, the internals are exactly the same and built by the exact same factory!

I have opened a few 12v USB converters whilst building my battery charger and have found the ebay one to be just as well built as the TomTom and HTC genuine ones.
#37
I think people are forgetting that Belkin hardly manufacture anything at all.
#38
Belkin !!!! You lot crack me up lol

Do you realise Sony is not made by Sony ? Panasonic is not made by Panasonic ?

I sell the £1 ones all day long and have had not 1 returned, for months.... Long before this Belkin appeared....

My N8 and HTC Desire charge perfectly with the £1 one, so where you are getting all this nonsence from is beyond me !

Yes and I have been in the electronics game for 25 years....

With none branded ones u just cant trust them! u never know whats inside? i'd rather pay a little more quids for a good brand! For the sake of a few quid wud u risk ur £500 iphone?!
I know belkin may not manu anything but at least they select the quality 3rd party manufactured items to their product line.
unknown brands can be good but can be very sh*t. if its good then good for u. i woulnt risk it!
