Good price but ... it is really hard to get comfy helmet that will fit your head perfectly.
This is why I recommend buying something like this in store.

Yep, some cracking discounts there, but without having tried one on beforehand it's difficult to know what size to go for.

It's amazon worth a try at these prices if it doesn't fit send it back. I've ordered a flip up for £61 bargain. Nearly £200 elsewhere on sale. Heat from me.

That's my thoughts so I have just bought a yellow one. Normally I am a medium but for Schubert I am large so I have gone for a medium. Fingers crossed.

Very tempted but just imagining HDNL drivers chucking it around the back of their vans over a few days before they eventually decide to deliver it is giving me doubts. Good prices though, voted hot

Cheers, cancelled and ordered a large

Ordered one earlier today and when I looked at the order details, saw that the price included VAT. As its safety equipment, it should be exempt so emailed Amazon to explain this. Initially got a standard reply about VAT but which actually confirmed this...pointed out that they had just agreed in my reply and just had another email saying they are refunding just under £19! (including the vat from next day delivery charge). Hope this helps anyone else who bought one

Much appreciated mate, I've started the ball rolling with the two that I bought today .. they don't actually agree at this stage, but I'm being passed up the line for further investigation .. and expect to be refunded in due course!
Many thanks for bringing this to our attention :)

You're welcome! Got a confirmation of the refund this morning so they acted pretty quickly. If you got the same standard reply as me, it confirms that safety gear is VAT free. I've got copies of emails if you need them. Surprising in some ways as Amazon are normally pretty sharp when it comes to not paying tax!

Comments:Hello,

I just placed an order with you for a motorcycle crash helmet. I then looked at the invoice breakdown and noticed it has been charged with VAT added to the price stated of £88.11 (£17.62 VAT @ 20%). As it is protective clothing, it should be exempt from VAT and not applied to this product. As this is the case, I should not have to pay the additional £17.62.

I would be grateful if you would look into this and arrange any refund due.

Thanks

Message From Customer Service
Hello,

My name is Karl. I have received your email and understand that you would like to know why you have been charged VAT on your order for a helmet which comes under safety item.

In accordance with the laws governing members of the EU, Amazon.co.uk is obliged to charge VAT on all orders delivered to destinations in member countries of the EU.

In the United Kingdom, the VAT rate is 0% on a number of select items, including books, children’s clothing and safety gear. However, many items in our catalogue are subject to the UK VAT rate of 20%, by law.

Below is a link to the criteria for helmets:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=hp_left_sib?ie=UTF8&no...
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=200135940

For items that are subject to VAT, the RRP and/or Price on the website includes UK VAT.

For a complete list of VAT rates, please review the VAT Rates Help page:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/display.html/?ie=UTF8&nodeId=502578

If there is even one item in your order that is subject to tax, we are obliged to levy 20% VAT on that item as well as the postage and packing for the entire order. It is possible to place orders for items subject to VAT separately from those not subject to VAT.

Furthermore, giftwrap is considered a "non-essential" service so it is charged at 20% VAT.

When VAT applies to an order, the relevant charges will be clearly reflected on your e-mail confirmations and invoices.

Please remember that VAT charges only apply to orders being sent to member countries of the EU.

For dispatch to countries outside of the EU, VAT will not be charged. These packages may however be assessed for import or customs fees, depending on the laws of the particular countries.

Customs or import duties are levied once the package reaches the destination country. For certain destination countries, Amazon.co.uk will estimate and collect an import-fees deposit during the checkout process. These funds will be used to pay the import fees on your behalf to the appropriate authorities, when your package reaches the destination country. The estimated import-fees deposit will be displayed in the order summary in the checkout.

If an estimated import-fees deposit is not displayed in the checkout order summary, additional charges for customs clearance will have to be borne by the recipient. We have no control over these charges and cannot predict what they might be. Since customs policies vary widely from country to country, you may want to contact your local customs office for further information.

I hope this helps. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Warmest regards,
Karl

Once I had this one I replied saying that he had confirmed that there was no VAT due and this backed it up. The next I got was to say they were refunding and another later confirming they had. Hope this helps

Just posted this on BCF, anybody that has bought the flip helmets should seriously think of returning them, or getting in touch with trading standards.

received my helmet just now.

Extremely disappointing, although its a good fit.

Amazon has clearly sent me a used and returned helmet, it has parts missing, one of the little panels that cover the side of the visor.

the film on the visor had been removed and reapplied, the inner box was extremely damaged, outer packaging was fine, so it left amazon in this state, and there were scuffs on the helmet

bad show by amazon

Should probably add that these flip helmets are extremely flimsy, and anybody that had bought one should think twice before actually wearing it out on the road, where the flip part attaches, if you gently press on both sides of the helmet, the catches almost spring open, id hate to think of what might happen with the force of a crash.

Where the catch itself attaches, its only plastic itself, so only a mm or so of plastic preventing the catch for flip face from opening in the event of a crash. A firm but fairly soft tug would see it flying open.

There's also no EC markings as far as I can tell.

edit.

Just pulled the catch open with a gently tug with my hands..... Ill be phoning trading standards in a bit and dropping the helmet off to them, this it either a fake helmet or its completely unsafe to be sold

Please keep me updated on this. Mine is starting to come apart as not enough glue has been applied in places. [email protected]

I ordered the Stripes M5X type and it seemed really nicely made, extra tinted visor, tear offs, a good holdall type bag as well. The only thing I noticed was the rubber trim around the bottom edge was a bit crinkly over a couple of inches but hardly noticeable. Haven't worn it out on a bike yet. Has anyone had any problems with that type?

Good luck with sorting the flip type helmet and please keep us updated on here.

Ordered my XXL Bell M3R helmet, recieved it next day despite using supersaver free delivery.
Helmet was brand new, product box in mint condition, all fixtures and fittings present and correct. All in all appears to be an excellent crash helmet with just 1 problem, it's tiny!
I wear XXL in most Shoei helmets (XL in one which I can't remember model) and XXL in Marushin.
This XXL Bell was more like a Large in Shoei. I managed to get it on, just, but i nearly tore my ears off getting it off. It wasn't just tight side to side, but front to back too. My mouth was actually pressed up against the front!
Needless to say I returned it the same day for a full refund.
The helmet was physically marked XXL, not just on the sticker on the visor.

Ta, no M3X though, unless there's another model which uses the same visor ?
