excellent adventure game - well executed on the iphone

I'd been waiting to play this game since it was released (on the PC in 90's), so bought it as soon as it appeared on itunes.

Goes to show never buy an app the week its released a month later they'll be giving it away

BASS = 10/10 Itunes =1/10

For those of us that have Symbian OS based phones V3+ (works fine on 5530 & 5800 with the screen tilt fix), Beneath A Steel Sky is now freeware and can be used with the brilliant Symbian OS version of SCUMM, both being free.

Also its available for the IPhone for free too. Yes I know its only 59p, but when you can download for free and have many more old skool graphics adventures for your Symbian OS or IPhone mobiles, its a cold deal.

If theres an app for that, theres going to be a hack for that, and these ones are legal.

But for your 59p you get an optimised iPhone interface that makes the game a lot more playable.

Contrary to this, for iPhone/iPod Touch users, you need your devices to be jailbroken to be able to run the SCUMMVM emulator and the game. Definitely worth it as it is freeware.

However, for 59p you are getting a genuinely REMASTERED version of the game for your iPhone/iPod Touch. I've personally completed the original game many times, I own the original PC CDROM version, and the iPhone remastered version has superior music, a lush interface, and great new animations for the story parts (beginning and very end).

I bought it yesterday for the sale, and looking forward to get through it. You can't go far wrong with something less than the price of chips! HOT

Why would you rip it off when there's a good version for 59p that is no hassle? Is saving hours of your life not worth 59p? :P

Bargain!

I can't believe people who don't want to pay a measly 59p for an app - that won't even buy you a plate of chips!

Firstly, let me say I was unaware that it was Remastered for the Iphone. Therefore if you have an Iphone and want to play a remastered version of it, great.

Secondly, who is ripping anyone off by installing Scumm and downloading the original CD version considering Revolution software have made it freeware, I abhor that comment against what I have already stated.

Thirdly, bear in mind I posted that link ALSO for those that don't have an Iphone and want to run it on their Symbian phones. This site is all about money saving and deals, I was offering links to the same thing for free (albeit not remastered, which as I stated I was unaware of), like it or not.

Whats wrong with jailbreaking an Iphone anyway, is it not yours to do with as you like? Personally if you like Beneath A Steel Sky, you would also like other Revolution Software graphical adventures along with the many LucasArts games, so therefore making the SCUMM application an absolute must to put on the Iphone or any Apple-less crippling Symbian phone.

There again, is my explanation worth anything on such lambasting people...No pleasing some :whistling:

PC version is completely free on www.gog.com

One of the best games on the Amiga, and is a STEAL at 59p.

Nothing, if you don't mind the hassle of nurturing it through every firmware update.
#12
I agree that for sub 60p it is great but there is something to be said for scummvm for other games.

Well, SCUMM is useful for those of us with symbian phones without the relevant hassle, guess iPhone users will just have to wait and hope Lucasarts release their grapical adventures as an application instead if its too much hassle, its no hassle at all with symbiam, downloaded, installed, put roms in a folder, select and run...easy.

SCUMM vm is available for just about ANY platform... symbian, win mobile, theres probably an android version too...
Don't miss out on these old games! Many are free!

Be careful wrhat you are saying here, seems others don't like the hint of freeness, I mentioned it earlier and was lambasted for it :whistling:

You poor poor people with your 15 discs!

I had the talkie version for my CD32.

Awesome game. Almost made me glad I blew all my pocket money on the CD32 when the Playstation was just months away. Almost...

I'm all for it, I don't even have an iPhone though ;) Would you have to jailbreak it to put Scummvm on? Doesn't sound like they'd offer it as a free app. That's where I'm talking about faffing around. Scummvm is terrible on the Wii and tollerable on the DS, an optimised BASS is well worth 59p.

if you have to jailbreak it to put scummvm on? why not just use the cracked ipa, and as for the firmware updates, if you can jailbreak your iphone it is very easy to update and re-jailbreak. you just might have to wait a couple of months for the break to come out, i personally wouldnt jailbreak for a 59p game but i begrudge paying £500 for a phone then you have to pay 59.99 for the likes of tomtom, i wouldnt have got an iphone unless you could jailbreak, apple= rip-off merchants, why charge so much for a phone you are going to make billions on in games/songs/movies/books

Well if you don't have an iPhone, thats good for starters, you are not in the dilemna of having to faff about. We all know what Apple are like, theres an app for everything, yeah, at what cost, as stated before, I was unaware that BASS was remastered for the iPhone, so yes, for IPhone users 59p for it is a great deal.

Yes you would have to Jailbreak an iPhone to put ScummVm on it to play other graphical adventures though, as stated, you are not in that dilemna. There are other options, Symbian phones, particularly ones with touch screens like the Nokia 5530 & 5800 are both great for running ScummVM, and are both cheaper than the iPhone, no faffing around, download ScummVM, pop it on the memory card, run the executable file to install it. Create a Rom folder, and guide ScummVM to it (like you do on the DS or Wii) There is a pop up touch keyboard for commands such as the usual F5 key for saving.

Totally agree. TomTom is **** anyway, I got the IPA and it picks up poor GPS signal everywhere... I had a look at AppStore reviews and it seems everyone has the same experience, unless you use the "TomTom Dock" in your car, which, you've guessed it, costs another £100 or so.

When it comes to buying app's, if something costs 59p or whatever I don't really mind buying it. When it costs north of a fiver however, it's too easy just to IPA-it...

Now £1.79!

But still a cracking game for the money.
