Been looking for a wifi mobile...anyone had any experience with this? It's a tad ugly though I must say lol
#2
That a good price for a smart phone!
#3
£71.60 with postage + £5 off
So works out £51.60

The WiFi works very well. I had something very similar from Orange (E650) but sold it to Mazuma a few months ago. If it is the same technology then you will find the phone will crash when you least expect it too, usually while you are surfing or making a call - it is for this reason I got rid. Google will reveal that this has happened to many users.

I ordered, then cancelled, I think I'll wait for a better Wifi phone deal! *holds breath*

What do you want for your money? This phone outsmarts many on the highstreet for treble or more the price. Wifi WLAN 802.11b/g for under £100 is amazing already!

Balls! I ordered one of these a week or so ago, and it does the job bust cost me the full £69. Expansys are a nightmare for pricing! Can't think it will get much cheaper than this though! Good phone.

I agree with you, but I'm completely shallow and I think it looks fugly lol, if it had a slightly bigger screen then I would of been sold, but I chickened out!
I have a few days to ponder over it (as long as it doesn't go out of stock).

Shallow Hau lol. I have used Windows Mobiles for years and yes they are not usually pretty (apart from the sexy new HTC Diamond, Xperia and Omnia) but they do work well, numerous applications available. If you want something pretty and does the same, you will be paying about 150+.

Haushinka: What mobile phone are you using at the moment?

One that works?!? Heheh! :whistling:

Firmware updates could solve that. Its like Windows OS on a pc, millions use it and complain about it but there is usually a way around it. Nokia and Sony Ericsson issue expensive phones all with them lovable bugs we love to hate and that is paying £200+ or taking pricey contracts.
#12
As the description says 'it will work on anynetwork' .... guess it means unlocked ??

Anyidea whether the phone , particularly wifi will work fine outside UK ??

Don't laugh, an LG KS360 had it about 4 months and I hate it lol. Nothing wrong with it, but I really don't like it. I just want something I can browse the net on, as I'm quite restricted at work!

Wifi has nothing to do with network so even if the band doesn't cover a certain country, the wifi will conect to a wireless network providing on the same frequency.

Well you are not that choosy then lol. This phone imo is miles better!

can anyone confirm if this has an FM radio - not listed on expansys site but referenced on other sites?!?!?

I do not believe so. There is an app called 'internet radio' but this is not what you mean.

no, I meant an onboard FM receiver rather than via wifi.
#18
i need a handset for general use and surfing the net in general, not too bothered about the wifi - is this an everyday handset
#19
This is a smartphone running windows mobile which is a great mobile platform and has loads of amazing applications.

However this one is quite low spec'd so you may find it a bit slow compaired to your nokias/LG's
In terms of what you can do on it the posibilities are endless, theres a much wider choice than iphone apps and there's no app store to restrict you on what you can and cannot install.

I wouldnt buy it simply because i do not like not having a touchscreen. However it is a good price for a Winmo handset.
#20
Thanks. Ordered. Been looking to replace my old SPV c600 with something similar.
#21
Remember this phone is not a 3G phone - you only get the slower internet via EDGE if you can't get wifi.
#22
I could do with a decent 2nd phone for when I go out and get drunk, instead of bringing out the iPhone. Losing one when you've got no insurance isn't fun!

However, one thing I would find really handy - a decent LED notification light. A quick Google suggests that this phone has one, and as petty as it sounds, is it a good LED? One with a dim flash indicating a missed call/message is no good. The brighter the better, obviously. So, can any owners of this device tell me - is the LED bright? And is it on top of the device, yes?

Thanks.

Call me simple, but i have an orange p&g phone that needs replacing. i only need internet for ebay. could i make this work for me?

In that case this deal is cold for me. It's just an outdated phone!

After all, its a bargain, but not as cheap as it looks

"BenQ recently launched a new E72 Windows Mobile handset, which was initially only available via BT Fusion. Now it's available SIM-free for £100 from Expansys. We rather like this device, not least because BenQ has managed to bring something new to what's becoming a crowded market."
Meaning It was £100 FROM EXPANSYS when it had just come out....alot of phones i.e HTC TouchPro2 are on Expansys very quick and prices are very very high.....so £100 was a high price....in 2008....

Regardless excellent price, H&R ADDED!

To be honest, you can't expect a 3G phone at that price point. Even the upcoming Nokia 2730 will be more than this, and that's going to be a very basic handset, only with 3G.

A word of warning - Expansys have been trying to dump these for ages. They had it at 49.99 on a Friday offer a few weeks ago. Look at the terms of the cashback - must submit within 30 days but after 14 days. That would be after your "quibble free" gaurantee has run out then whan you find the phone is pants.

Onto the phone itself. I got one when they first started selling them off. Compared to other Windows Smartphone it's very slow, especially in navigating menus (and I've used most). The screen is too small. The firmware is buggy and it has a tendency to turn itself off. Battery life is poor. You won't be getting any firmware updates as the phone isn't made any more. The phone was originally released in Asia and only sold in the UK for BT Fusion sevice, (which was wound up), so there's no support, nor any 3rd party accessories.

But on the up side, it does look pretty, and there's a special email light. if you just need a WM compatible phone for the "pub" or for a spare, I guess it's cheap enough for that.

doesn't appear to be wifi with this
#31
Wow I didn't realise these sort of phones were so cheap. Is this one any good -

Erm... back in 2004 I got a 3G Nokia on Three for £45. So for a clearance phone, many years later, asking for 3G is perfectly legitimate I think.
#34
Fair enough.

Which Nokia was it, out of interest? It'll no doubt be cheap as chips if it's still available now, and I'd get that instead of this.
#35
Cold a slow processor is stupid when your considering a 'smartphone', i mean it's only 20MHZ faster than my K800i and Windows mobile is much more prcessor intensive than propiertry software
#36
I think a smartphone really has to have at least a 3 inch touchscreen nowadays, with 3G and WiFi. Those are the bare minimum if you're a 'power' user.
#37
You can picked up a refurb'd HTC Hermes (aka Orange M3110, TyTn, MDA Vario II, etc) for around £50. The Hermes specs completly blow this out of the water, loads of 3rd party support, so if you don't mind taking a risk on a refurb then it's worth looking at the Hermes for a decently priced WM phone.

(buying 'sell off' stock from Expansys is a bigger risk than buying a refurb'd Hermes anyhow ;-) )
#38
Amusing people! I'm pretty happy with mine, though admittedly I was moving from an Orange SPV c500 which is even slower than this, and the keypad on mine had broken partially... txting when the delete button is broken is not fun!

As for this phone, it seems OK for the money. I couldn't see any better phoned, unlocked, for this price.

I have this phone, great little phone, any questions , fire away!!.. I updated mine to windows mobile 6.1, this made it into a great phone.. this firmware was available on xda developers, and was sooo easy to do using via xp. (expansys ships with WM 5 2003)
The screen is tiny (could be bigger!), the keys are solid and responsive
The internet radio feature WILL NOT work, it is part of the BT 'at home' service, it has been disabled by expansys before being sent.
The battery life is great EXCEPT when you use wifi, my battery charge can last 5 days worth of normal useage, providing you have the keylock / screen off function enabled. But if you leave the wifi on accidently, then it will be dead in 5 / 6 hours.
I have been using this phone for over a year with no problems.
It is slow at booting up , once it's booted and settled it performs fine, just remember to go to 'Task Manager', and close the apps that you left open every now & then.

IMHO, 50 quids for a WM phone is quite good. However, I noticed that the specifications of this phones is roughly the same as HTC Touch. I had a Touch last year. It was a nice phone in general but very slow when i tried to browse with wifi. It took more than a minute to open the homepage of the Economist. So back to this BenQ one, I am not sure if it is the right one for those who are looking for a wifi phone.
