The RL2455HM is the latest in a series of professional gaming monitors created by BenQ. If you follow competitive gaming, you have most likely seen their monitors being used in various video game competitions throughout the world, most notably in Major League Gaming. BenQ have earned a reputation creating displays where every millisecond counts, and the RL2455HM continues this trend being the official monitor of the 2013 Major League Gaming circuit. While it is advertised as a monitor designed for RTS games, it actually functions exceptionally well for a variety of game genres, including shooters, fighters, and fast-paced action games.

Hot, But would rather spend a little more and buy the Dell U2312HM. The Colour reproduction on it is amazing.

Being noobish, but how do I know the refresh rate?

The RL2455HM uses a matte TN panel with a LED backlight, which is fairly common for most monitors in this price range. TN panels are known to be very fast when it comes to response time, and the BenQ exemplifies this by offering a 1ms GTG (gray-to-gray) response time. It’s a nice touch when most TN monitors released nowadays usually max out at 2ms GTG response time. Response time governs how quickly a pixel can shift from black to white, or in this case, gray-to-gray. The benefit is reduced ghosting, which is a must for competitive gamers. Being a native 1080p (1920 x 1080) display, it can correctly scale 16:9 content (such as 720p) without any major issues. The panel features a dynamic contrast ratio of 12M:1 (million), and a native contrast ratio of 1000:1. The panel operates at a 60hz refresh rate, which can be disappointing to gamers used to 120hz refresh rate from their PC games. However, for those that game primarily on the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, or even the newer Playstation 4 and Xbox One, the 60hz refresh rate won’t be a deal breaker.

"1ms response time" :o

Bought a couple .. they look excellent and have a movable stand too which not all the monitors do have.
Will update once I receive them .. says 'we will inform you when they will be despatched'.

Is the headphone jack of much use though when most gaming headsets need to be connected to USB as well as line?

This doesn't have a built in USB hub unfortunately so I would need to connect my headset to my case ports.

But that's not a gaming monitor, which is what this deal is for... As the owner of both a Dell U2412M and a Benq XL2720T sitting in front of me right now, I can notice the differences when gaming and video/photo editing on both (and for the record, gaming on the Dell is pretty awful compared with a decent gaming monitor).

They certainly do, but depending on what you buy some of them really are worth it.
I sat on the fence for ages about what 27" I should buy, and ended up biting the bullet and spending a fairly outrageous £365 on a Benq XL2720T (annoyingly it's now £320 from Amazon, but too late for me to get them to refund the difference).
And I can honestly say I'm glad I did, as the difference in response times and refresh rates is immediately noticeable, even from first boot and moving the pointer around, games just look superb.

For those wondering - the difference between this and the XL2420T is that this one is 60Hz (vs XL @ 120hz) and this one does not have portrait mode.

Looks a very good monitor for the vast majority of users. Good find.

I'm currently confused myself over what monitor to buy, on the one hand I maintain a website and often design buttons, icons and whatnot so an IPS may be best right? But then again I want to game on the PC and game smoothly, right now the GPU I plan to buy can play BF4 at 60FPS on max so do I NEED a 120Hz/144Hz monitor if I'm not going to exceed 60FPS?

And its like a mine field finding a decent 120Hz monitor, they say 3D ready or 3D compatible but then some REQUIRE Nvidia 3D vision to work so those monitors are out the window since I'm getting an AMD card. I would like to watch 3D movies without 3D vision but those monitors are even more expensive, just look at the price of this thing (over £270!) http://www.amazon.co.uk/Asus-VG248QE-24-inch-LED-Monitor/dp/B00B19T7QC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1383577056&sr=8-1&keywords=asus+3d Do I really want to be spending that much when I can get a decent monitor (This deal) for half the cost?

I honestly thought buying a monitor would be simple but I'm just seriously confused right now.

I am in exactly the same position. I'm using an OC'd 7870 (it's one of the Sapphire ones that is basically a 7950) and I want to get a monitor but the more I look into it, the more confusing it gets.

I think if you're looking for good performance for PC gaming only then one of the 120Hz models is probably the minimum of what you want with a 5ms or less refresh rate. As soon as you start looking for 120Hz 1080p models over 60Hz though then the prices start to sky rocket.

I don't think you need an IPS panel just to maintain a website, make buttons etc, as you certainly don't need the colour accuracy that you'd need with professional video/photo editing etc (people managed perfectly fine with non-IPS for many years, and I have a Dell ultrasharp IPS monitor, and although I can see some differences, it's certainly not worth the fuss some people make of them...). But like you say, you don't really need a 120Hz panel if you aren't gaming above 120Hz (if you do get a 60Hz screen, make sure VSYNC is enabled in games to avoid tearing).
What I will say is that everything seems smoother on my 120Hz screen, even navigating Windows (but the premium obviously isn't worth it just for that.

I think you'd be fine with a decent TN panel, just get one with 1 or 2ms response times and gaming should be good (check reviews for input lag though, as that can still be an issue regardless of response times), but I'd still suggest you get a 120Hz screen if you don't mind paying the extra, as everything seems to benefit from it.
