could be wrong but thought the DoE requirements for backpacks were 60 litre plus

Bought as a day pack - thanks OP. As previously stated I think these are too small for overnight expeditions - 45l minimum, 60l plus recommended....

You could be right, I didn't look into it, I just checked the price on the Berghaus site and they said great for DoE http://www.simplyhike.co.uk/products/Berghaus/FreeflowII30Rucksack.aspx

They say 60L is OK for bronze but advise 70L for gold http://www.dofe.org/go/ekg/

Naughty Berghaus. Still, a great rucksack for £30

Best air movement in a backpack in my view.

I did my DoE Gold 4 years a go with a 35+8 and think I could have done it with a smaller bag. It obviously all depends how sizeable the rest of your kit is.

I didn't need one either but crumbled and bought the Black/Grey one - incidentally the picture on amazon for this one appears to be different to the others - Freeflow 40??? Interesting to see what gets delivered, thanks Op heat from me thanks for the heads up.

Image for the black one - freeflow 40?

Quidco is showing 8% cash back on sports and outdoors (which this seems to be under) for the next two days.
#21
I have a 20 litre day pack, which is far too big. 30 litres sounds massive.

I got the code via email but it didn't work on this bag. Although in the email it did say it only works on clothing, shoes, jewellery and/or watches.

is this big enough for a weekend at a festival?

Not if camping but fine as a day sack, I travel fairly light but for a full weekend I usually need 60l minimum for tent/sleeping bag/clothes/snacks.

Thanks. I'm going tobcreamfields Friday to Monday camping. Everything has to to be carried once. I'll get a bigger one then.

amazing bags, i have a smaller freeflow 20 and its the best bag i have ever owned, my 20l was quite restricted because of the flow system, theres a hard piece of plastic running along the inside which helps keep the bag away from your back, i'm not sure if these are the same, ive had the thing crammed full of stuff on numerous occasions and it doesn't show any signs wear.

the question now is, do i go for another.
#34
Ordered a yellow one, I cycle to work and have a DHB 25ltr backpack, its great but this looks better quality for almost the same price and a bit more space.

Can you carry your tent or sleeping bag separately? This would make a great bag to carry round in this unpredictable weather as you can have warm/waterproof gear on standby, a normal sleeping bag will take at least half the bag though.
#36
Carrying a rucksack around at Creamfields is not the best option. Use lockers instead.
#37
All gone :(

Bah, held off ordering til I was at a pc as have problems on my phone. Suppose it saved me £30......
