I could not believe my eyes when I saw this brand of pesto on the shelf of the Andover Tesco, normally it costs about £2 for a 185g jar. This may be a mis-price as it is not on the shelf as a special offer and at a whopping 75% or more discount for one of the best tasting pestos available I bagged 12 jars. Both the Rosso (Red) and Verde (Green) pestos are at this price.

Pesto Rosso is a very flavoursome & concentrated 'paste' type sauce, it's made from olive oil, tomatoes, cashew nuts, pecorino romano cheese, pine nuts, basil & garlic; you stir 2 dessert spoons direct from the jar into freshly cooked pasta and eat immediately. A great addition is cubed feta cheese. A very tasty, cheap, quick and easy meal which can be ready in 10-12 minutes, great with a glass or two of red wine for lunch. Much less hassle & in my opinion far better tasting than Ragu or Dolmio type sauces.

I'm thinking that someone at Tesco head office may have entered the wrong price - it isn't being listed on the shelf as a special offer yet has a massive discount. The shelves have only recently been re-stocked with this product, it has been unavailable for a few months. Ocado sell this for £1.89. It is very rare to get pesto at under £1 a jar and then only the naff value stuff, whereas this is a premium product. I wouldn't be surprised to see this go up to about £2 in the next few days.

Hope it tastes nice....just ordered 8 jars, heat added btw

i did wonder when i saw this today at tesco, why the tesco brand was £1.99 and this was 20g less in weight but so cheap. As I don't usually buy the stuff I didn't realise it may be a misprice.

Good spot, I should have got a couple.

Uh.. pesto IS a sauce - one of the better known ones (at least standard pesto, ie "green", ie basil) which can be used with pasta, amongst other things. Pasta, pesto, pine nuts and tomatoes.. classic!
Or thick rustic bread, chunks of buffalo mozzarela, santini tomatoes, spinach leaves and pesto.
Nice on pizzas too.. or as a dip...

Tip for veggies : look for Sacla organic ..

Pesto is like a more "concentrated" pasta sauce, so you use less of it and there is no need to warm it up or "cook" it, just put a couple of spoonfuls through drained pasta for a quick bite x
