title should read best rates on Turkish Lira not foreign exchange as a whole

Try Thomas Exchange Global. I have found they nearly always have a better price. You could always get Travelex to price match with them.

Now I know without looking that the PO do not have the best exchange rates. In fact far far from it.

http://travelmoney.moneysavingexpert.com/ is a good tool.

Last week Travelex was £0.10p per GBP better than The Post Office.

Everything always thinks the post office is the best, but its not always the case.

Just to back up my post --

EUR -
Post Office - 1.1926
Travelex - EUR 1.1931

I know theres not much in at at this moment in time.

TOP TIP, if your local Sainsbury's has a TRAVELEX, you also get nectar points!

For Turkish Lira, get them in Turkey...at a Doviz. Much better exchange rate, and lower spread. Almost all towns have several, as Turkey very cash based society, and they regularly buy foreign ccy to hedge against inflation.
You'd even be better to buy YTL at the destination airport.
The spreads you see in the UK are horrific...
The above not true of any other currency.

Europebudgetguide.com have done a pretty good review of the best travel exchange rates and yes, Post Office may not be the cheapest, in fact Thomas Cook can be better than Travelex-the key is ordering online to get the best rates. Deepending on location some local travel currency places offer the best rate.

Check out: http://www.europebudgetguide.com/europebudget/2010/07/how-and-where-to-get-the-best-travel-exchange-rate-for-buying-euros-this-summer-.html

Sorry, RickT, voted cold.

ICE (International Currency Exchange) are currently offering better rates than Travelex on Turkish Lira & the Euro, and have been for a few months. They also offer free delivery of cash for purchases over £400.
Travelex (per £)
Turk Lira: 2.2754
Euro: 1.1931
ICE (per £)
Turk Lira: 2.2865
Euro: 1.1966
FairFX also have better rates for the Euro than Travelex, with free delivery on orders over £500, but their Turk Lira rate is worse. They do have better rates generally for Euro TravelCards, with £5 casback through Quidco for new orders.
FairFX (per £)
Turk Lira: 2.2315
Euro: 1.1955

I use a Nationwide Debit card here in Spain in cash machines, this week I got 1.22 euros to the pound with NO charges. You can get up to 300 euros a day. But NEVER agree to have your money debited in UK pounds by the machine, it will cost you dearly, just tell it to debit your card in Euros and let Natiowide sort it out.

Does the Nationwide debit card 'No charge' rate work worldwide or just Europe?

Pretty sure they started charging for rest of world about 18 months ago. Also, I got an updated terms and conditions sent to me this week that said they are going to chargew £1 AND 2% for ALL transactions other than sterling from November.

made the mistake of using TGE , sent bank transfer for 4k. Having got no confirmation of them dealing with my order i called them, staff didnt want to know, a couldn't care less attitude... really rude. I was going out of my mind for 4 days because they couldn't tell me where my money was. I got my money in the end, it turned up in the post but ive still no idea what the mix up was. Never again, id rather pay more to feel safer. Awful company.
