When nothing is plugged in does the USB port still draw power like a transformer type thing?
That's what puts me off these, power adaptors drawing power (getting warm) with nothing plugged in is one of my pet hates!

The same ones on AMAZON mentioned by tnucboy do isolate the transformer if not in use...according to the spec.. These look identical but a few pence cheaper and free delivery on Amazon.

"If no device is connected, the transformer shuts down and power is not supplied to the USB ports
Once a device is plugged in this activates the amplifier and power is supplied to the required USB ports
Conforms to European Stand-by Mode "

not from amazon themselves though (they do do it but it's £12.37)

I have 1 already and reasonable Quick to charge my LG G3

Great Find ;)

I suppose these are more useful if you have sockets half way up the walls like most modern houses seem to. if your sockets are at the proper height though, i cant really see the benefit. if it was technically more feasible a low voltage ring would be useful - im not convinced these are the solution. Also, 2A combined is pretty poor.
#9
So if only one USB socket is used will it give a 2Amp charge?
#10
Would the usb socket run a raspberry pi? Ideally need min 1.5a? About to put a tv on the wall and socket. This would be handy as my pi psu is too deep...tia

2.1a for fast charge on a galaxy s4 or higher, so these aren't great for phones. Every day low draw items would be fine.

My toaster and George Forman grille share my current dual socket on the kitchen worktop and it's getting frustrating keep swapping back plugs for tablets/phones Etc! This would be very handy and remove clutter from my kitchen worktop - would it be ok for the kids anovo 7" tablet / Samsung s3 - I would probably keep the iPhone and iPad on normal chargers ! -thanks
#13
Cold, these are proven to be dangerous due to the lack of earthing to the USB port.

if you're planning to use this with a tablet and/or phone, don't bother.

Educate us all. Why would 2 amps be slow?

most tablets use 2.4 amps nowadays
there are phones which use VOOC which uses 4.5amps at peak (although most phones use 2amps)

if you're charging 1 normal tablet and 1 normal phone, they'll charge at less than half the speed that you're used to.

also, more phones will start to draw more and more current as faster charging is developed. As a result, this product will be rendered useless in only a few months time.

I'm not sure I'd go with "most tablets use 2.4 amps"..

Nexus 9 - 1.5 amps
iPad Air 2 - 2.3 amps (Will charge marginally slower, hardly ridiculously slow)
Galaxy Tab S - 2.0 amps

Granted I couldn't be bothered to check any more but I'm still not convinced these wall plates are "ridiculously slow". Besides they're bought by people looking for convenience. If they want their phone charged in 15 minutes they'd just use a vooc charger and chuck it back in the drawer afterwards.

That's not to say you're wrong either. I just think for the average users, looking for convenience, they shouldn't be scared away from using them.

absolutely.

this is a good device in theory, but it's limited in use by its functionality. If you're someone who charges all their gadgets overnight, this could be a good option

Ive never seen a plug in charger that uses the earth, 5v 2amp is hardly going to throw you across the room.
They look like the cheap junk Aldi sell, Screwfix sell LAP sockets for an extra 2p, LAP are not exactly high quality, but at least you can take it back if it breaks or doesnt work properly, or even if you dont like it.

if you're charging one Samsung Galaxy S5 (2.1 amps) and one Galaxy Tab S (2 amps), the charging speed will be half of what you're used to.

that's a fact, and people will notice that.

as I said before, these are fine if you're charging overnight, but bear in mind that the charging speed will be significantly slower if you're charging 2 devices at the same time

Yes they will, but you must sync them to your PC first, plugin the mouse/key in the usb on the socket and than take a fork and stick it in the socket that should reset the switch and now it will be synced.

Wont be installing these type of socket outlets until a reputable manufacturer has one for sale.
Id be concerned about the construction of the mains voltage section.

I think kitchen sockets above a work surface is where they are most likely to be used.

How much would it cost to have fitted by an electrician?

It's a 2 minute job to do yourself. Doesn't require an electrician

the USB are low voltage and should be double insulated transformer. . it should not have an earth , by adding the earth you then make them dangerous. only mains voltage 230/40 should be earthed

Ridiculous statement-how do you know the OP has the ability to change the unit out?
So would you like to explain the required test's after changing out a socket outlet?

So if only one USB socket is used will it give a 2Amp charge?
possibly will depend on device , as every device does draw what it needs and not necessarily dependant on charger

Obviously your not in the industry.
Plenty of occasions I've visited a property with incorrectly fitted socket outlets. I.e. reverse polarity.
