I was really lucky and picked up one of these from ebay for under £10
but so far I haven't been able to use it. The requirements are so specific - for example your computer needs an Intel wireless card so even the latest Apples with Haswell won't work with it as they use Broadcom or something for their wireless

Just make sure whatever device you want to use works with this (for a PC that means downloading the Intel WiDi software from the intel website)
But the latest android TV devices also support WIDI and can be had for a little more (but do a LOT more!)

NB Latest Widi spec now supports Miracast, hence the Android option (which also supports Miracast at 4.2 and above)

Sadly Apple are starting to disable 3rd party lightning cables now with ios7 still generally overpriced though.
hence why i bought this weekend, and provided a link to a seller who claims they have tested their cables, and they dont come up as disabled :D for something that is essentially a usb cable with a different connector on the end, its disgusting.

This is actually a good deal..!

Regarding the cheaper ones, i've had first hand experience of 3 of these which will usually last a couple of weeks if you're lucky.

Surely hot deals is about the cheapest a specific item is, and this is the cheapest belkin i5 cable!

That's fine when the product varies some way other than 'perceived' build quality.
I have bought many Belkin products over the years and have very little trust in their 'quality'

iPhone owners are mugs - that's already proven - so let them enjoy their ridiculously priced cables if they want to. They're not hurting anyone....

I noticed the Belkin duo charger and got that. Few hours later I stumbled on this! Even camelcamelcamel hasn't caught on it and still shows £29. Being £10 quid cheaper now, it seems like a tasty deal.…

How many amps does each socket supply? It doesnt seem to tell you...

500mA/USB socket

Nowhere near enough - explains the 1 star reviews. Waste of money.

I wonder how much juice an unused charger actually uses.

Not much I hope.

I have a charging station but it's just a plastic box with a 4 gang plug inside you connect all your chargers to and then feed them through to the front where the devices all sit.

Keeps things neat but theres nothing "smart" about it. It's just the same as charging normally except tidier! (And the unused chargers - I have four connected at all times - will be sitting draining whatever they drain when not in use ...)

The figure I keep seeing online is £1.80 to charge an iPad for a year. I must admit my electric use has dwindled dramatically after changing from laptops to Raspberry Pi/iPads, its just really the heating keeping my winter bills high.

I wonder how much juice an unused charger actually uses. I'm willing to bet it's very little and would take a long time to recoup the price of this. 500mA per socket is pretty useless too. I actually quite like the idea of the 'valet' part - neat cables etc etc but i'll stick with a charging dock by the bed for the phone and one in the kitchen for my tab, that one also doubles up as a useful stand.

Being Belkin it's likely to be poorly made and fail too, it's a good reduction so i've voted hot on that but I wouldn't touch it.

I don't think saving money is a good selling point, at full load it's going to cost 10-15p every 4 days, assuming your smartphone needs 8 hours to charge, the saving is going to mean you pay 10-15p every 12 days and in that time save a maximum of 20-30p. So maybe you'd recoup the cost in 3 years or so.

A better money saving investment would be a meter to tell you how much each device uses in standby and on, for instance my Pure Dab radio uses 9W when in standby and 10W when on, where as my Philips streamium music player uses <1W in standby and 4W when playing. I went round the house checking everything and over a month I reduced my electricity consumption by a measurable amount.
