Got out just in time then!
I've tried the form a few times now, and have seen that message once, but have also seen a different message saying "Half price broadband for 1yr across all products excludes Landline charges and 3 month contracts". Have not seen the price change at all.

I just rang but it went through to a call centre outside the UK (at a guess).

Right this minute, sorry, not sure why it did that. I'm actually locked into a 12 month contract (because of an account change I made) so have not (yet) taken up this offer. I'm hoping to do before the end of the month, but it depends a bit on some other factors (it would be a second phone line and I don't want to commit to that unless a contract is agreed to pay me for some work!)
Haveing a problem putting in the code ??
NEWYEAR13 chose pro 12 months unlimited normaly 27.00

Is there any chance they were wanting cost of the Bebox (not saying you didn't return it, but if there was no communication from BE, I would tell debt collectors that BE needs to make clear what they suggest is owed, via Royal Mail, and no payment would be considered without that).

You are disputing the claim, and debt collectors will start to confuse the issue, as they can start adding admin fees, then move it to the solicitir arm of the firm often in same building... they start claiming/threatening even higher admin and legal fees...

I know debt collection firms and their solicitor sidekicks can appear quite threatening but if you've proof of all the payments you made it would be down to ISP to prove outstanding (legitimate) amount owing.

Again, if you are sure you owe nothing, it may be time to complain direct them (1) about delay before they claimed any debt, (2) that they failed to notify you in writing, and using a debt collection agency amounts to harrassment, and (3) [if you are really sure] tell them you will see them in court, as you will make a counter claim that they owe you (say £50 + costs) for wasting your time to defend your position, when you owe them nothing.

If they sell the debt, they and the debt collectors assume they are in the right, even if it's a spurious claim, so I'd suggest nipping it in the bud with a formal challenge right back at them (any firm, not just an ISP).

Some reviews say BE were great, then went downhill after an acquitistion.
Anyone else able to comment on this?
I saw this with Plusnet, rave reviews but when I signed up, worst customer service experience of my life.

Great service, been with them a number of years. C/S is very good and the forum has lots of ppl who will help you if you get stuck. Only problem I have had is with there DNS,so I now use Google.
I use BE broadband, as someone who's tried a few broadband companies (BT, Blueyonder / virgin and the odd other) I can say my connection has been most stable and had the best service from BE broadband.

Basically the speed is what you pay for, pretty good but will always be slightly below advertised (same with any company though depending on how close you are to there exchange or whatever). Reliability is good, they don't seem to go down too often but it has happened once. My only real gripe is the router which is a bit duff and needs to reboot sometimes when it over heats but other than that I have no gripes and the service is better than other companies I've used.

Also they are the kind of company where unlimited means unlimited so if you get that unlimited data package you won't be hounded later for being a heavy internet user or frequent downloader.

Every ISP will release your personal data if you engage into illegal activities. They will have to because it's the Law.

This a joke?
I's the standard Be tariff, on it myself, have been for about 2 years. Although even then I got it with a cashback offer, making it better than this post! Even now, if I was signing up from scratch, I could do better, but that's not a deal either!

So, it's no offer no deal no nothing, and as good as Be is, unless you want it's very specific features, then the O2 tariffs are usually cheaper.

Be is brilliant. This deal aint.

I know, I have been with them for 2 years, but there are better deals than this.
nanana
Personally I think youd be better off with a 10mb Virgin connection with the phoneline deal, they have 6 months half price broadband for £6.25. Then 12 pounds after with a phoneline. So what £24 all in?.

It beats BE because you're not guarenteed to get the full 24 meg, at least with Virgin you'l get a solid 10mb. I'm on 20mb myself and its always been 20 for years.

VM is only good if you dont use their phone service, which is the most expensive in the UK (call costs higher than BT).
great isp and great customer service but this is not a deal. its been this price for ages.

i dont see the deal in this sorry :S! if you are a sky customer, just sign up for free sky talk abd get their broadband unlimted for £7.50 per month. 20meg download and dunno what upload! i get around 16 mbps download through my line and around 0.9 mbps upload when testing via speedtest.net

Yeah sure if you want an ISP that gives your name and address to every "Tom/Dick& Harry Legal" who asks for it...

And, have you ever tried the customer service? I had them for TV only and had to call once. I'd rather just not have TV than do that again.
royals
"Very good ISP as they do not throttle speeds at peak times"who told you that...their marketing dept...total bull

I would tell anyone that. BE do not throttle downloads.
They are by far the best ISP I've ever used.

I'm actually employed by a competitor ISP and can get broadband for £1/year. And yet I pay for BE. I hope that says something about them.

Because :
They don't throttle
They offer damn near 100% of what your line will give
Their customer service is the best I've seen from an ISP

Don't worry about who they may be (O2/telefonice/etc...), they are great.
MonkeyG0D
The best ISP I've ever had by far, I was really sad when i couldn't have them at my new address

Yep, my old flat was too far from the exchange for ADSL2. There's nothing like a year with Pipex to make you appreciate BE :(

Unfortunately they don't offer static IP's so no go for me :(

Also I regularly cancel my Sky account and rejoin as they always give me a good offer. Harder to do when my broadband is tied to them.

Otherwise you're correct, its a very good deal.

something strange about the link, when you go to the link and click on "more info" or "buy it" it goes straight to £13.79 price ??

Still do not know how or where to get this deal, link takes you to £13.79, if you start buying process still shows £13.79 and the BE web site does not list this deal:?: Would the poster like to give a clue?
I Agree.

Best customer service I have seen so far, I have the BE Value £7.50 /month and connection is very good for the price you pay.
I got this the last time a few months back and have to say it is a fantastic service .
I was with eclipse limited to 10 gb monthly speeds very erratic and kept dropping out , i was also paying more than double this.
Since changing i now consistantly get a speed of 6.3 mb and never had a dropout , 40gb allowance is a bargain for this price
they don't have a usage meter to monitor your downloads but you could download one if you thought you need it (i did) . Just a tip you will need to enter your router serial no to turn on the wifi (which also works great) if it doesn't accept the no and there is a U in it , it is probably like mine and is actualy a V . I spent 1 1/2 hrs messing with it to find out and every one who has seen it has also said it's a U.
It does say the £13.79 price when you look at the more info but i am also presuming if you follow it through it corrects it to £7.50.
They also say they don't do any traffic managing - with the constant over 6mb i'm getting that could be genuine.
pet2000;8808793
40gb limit is OK for surfing and download some tracks. If you want to watch streamings your limit wont last long. If you can get it, the o2 unlimited offer (£10.50 per month) is better.

That's why I said "ideal for non O2 customers" in the title.

o2 cashback is at £100 today. I just signed up for their premium package which is £10 / month if you are o2 customer and the first two months are free so thats free broadband for me for the next year. Happy with that and its tracked already !
Musicrab;7406712
Confused. I'm with o2 (access) for £17.50 per month and am leaving this month (price is high for the service). The service is provided by Be.
Could I leave o2 and join Be for £7.50? I assume the service will be the same (apart from the 40GB cap)

o2 Access, as others have mentioned, is a BTwholesale ADSLmax product that is resold by o2 as Access and has NO physical connection with the Be/o2 LLU services.

It is what they offer on exchanges where (a) there is no Be/o2 (Telefonica Europe sister companies in the UK) LLU DSLAM equipment; (b) they MIGHT also offer it if their LLU kit is FULL though not heard of that before.

The best way to find out if Be Value is available on your phone is to do the obvious and enter your phone number on the Be website and see what it says. It is highly likely it'll say NOT AVAILABLE. If it is available then yes clear your cookies and go via a £back referral site and sign up to Be Value if its limits will meet your needs.

(re IP# confusion : Not sure how o2 Access gets it's IP numbers, but o2 & Be have a shared POOL of IP numbers, and hence although I am an o2 Standard LLU subscriber my current # shows on most IP# analysers as being allocated to a Be Unlimited #.)

MKD
WG47;7406932
Your service isn't provided by Be, that's what I'm saying. If you're not LLU'd, you're not on Be's network. Your service is provided by BT on behalf of O2. All Be packages are only for LLU'd exchanges. O2 now own Be, so sell Be services over Be's network as O2, but any access packages they sell are 100% on BT kit, and BT's network.

Thanks. Just confused because when I do a speed test it says Be Un Limited but it has to be terminated somewhere (ie Be) even though its BT's kit.

2GB a day gaming are you mad, more like 500mb max, unless you're doing 4+ hours a day of online gaming.

Depends how much consoles and pc in the house and how amny hours you play games, id reckon 1gb a day is the max for gaming. Then you have to factor in streaming such as bbc iplayer and youtube. And if you buy games from steam or legally download movies, those are a couple of gigabyte each. Im on o2 LLU and can confirm thgere are no download limits.
fawcett;7405913

24 MEG* £21 i might leave virgin media
PLUS UPLAOD IS AMAZING
Download at speeds of up to 24meg*. And uploading is easy too with up to 2.5meg* when you sign up for our free Upload Plus.

I've even better news for you then.
o2's Pro product is only £85-£125 net cost for the first year, rather than the £223.64 you thought was good value for Be Pro AND you get a 'n' wireless box :whistling:
See my link in posting above.
That said Be Pro and o2 Pro are NOT identical products (whereas o2 Standard is a SUPERSET of Be Value) though in all essential elements they are.
DO remember though that with ADSL products the length/quality of your phoneline makes a BIG difference to your ACHIEVABLE max speed - so unless your telephone exchange is within view you're unlikely to get those 24Mbps down and 2.5Mbps up although you will get around 84% of whatever synch your modem does achieve as usable data bandwidth nearly all day every day (based on 2 years experience)!

When I look at the page it says Offer ends 28 December 2009.

Also what is this £5 per month of O2 Customers?

What speed is that on and do you have to keep topping up a PAYG O2 Mobile with £10 every 3 months to get that price? (assuming you don't have a contract phone with O2)

I've been with O2 for almost 12 months - my contract ends 30th Jan 2010

I'd happily go down to 8mb/s unlimited for this price

I hate having to keep topping up an O2 PAYG phone because their prices are so expensive for calls and data compared to ASDA Mobile, etc even their own GaffGaff mobile is way cheaper.

So is there no way for an existing O2 Broadband customer to get this deal online?

Also when either O2 or BeThere ask for the modem back, what exactly do you have to send?

I assume Modem + Power Supply - but do they want the original box, ADSL Line filters, Ethernet Cables, etc?
I have been a Be customer for 3 years now at 3 different premises. I had nothing but excellence from this provider.

I have been with many top rated ISPs, and I usually paid premium over other broadband service in the past as I couldn't stand reliability, speed and customer service issues. Be had just surprised me with affordability and quality of service.

The offer is extended to 28th Dec
From the site:
Simply sign up by to BE Value by the 28th December 2009 using offer code "halfprice" and you’ll only pay £6.75 a month.

Don't forget 1 month free for both party when referring a friend
LssL;6741456
Offer has now been extended until 31 Dec 2009. It doesn't say so on the "offers" page but I 've been looking into it as I'm nearing the end of my o2 contract and was considering paying early cancellation fees, but this appeared on BE checkout screen:

"Due to popular demand, we've extended our this offer through the end of 2009! Get first 12 months half price on the BE Value product by using offer code 'halfprice', normal charges apply thereafter. BT line and minimum term required. Offer ends 31 December 2009. The discount will be reflected on your invoice."

Sorted

So even though on the their site it states " offers ends 30/11/09 " its actually been extended until end of the year ?

Quote from their site

" Get first 12 months half price on the BE Value product by using offer code 'halfprice', normal charges apply thereafter. BT line and minimum term required. Offer ends 30 November 2009. The discount will be reflected on your invoice."

My contract expires on the 21st December 09 and i want to go for this deal !!!
Not sure if BE referral scheme is still running - can anyone confirm this?

Yes I had this too, you will still get the following six months free (i.e. April to September). It is annoying though that they claim the first six months is free and then they bill you! They should have worded it better.

Your speeds are going to be up and down for a while while everything retrains.

Even after nearly a year on BE here, my connection speed varied between 5mb and 6.5mb. My line has quite high attenuation so often the modem will resync if there is a large SNR headroom then resync when my SNR drops. Usually get a resync a couple of times a week but that does mean that I'm getting the maximum out of my line all the time.
Well, I got connected yesterday. (connection) Speeds have been up and down - started at 10mbps, went down to just over 7 and then went up to 8mbps.

Managed to use my old router (dg834t) without having to upgrade the firmware so I was up and running pretty quickly.

For some reason my quidco has tracked at £40. Bit annoying but it's a bonus so I'm not going to complain too much.

Overall a very positive experience and much more responsive than my old ISP.
Woooohooooooooo! My Quidco has tracked! The full £45.

PlusNet do a cheap £9.99 package. 1 month contract and £28 quidco cashback. Been great for my dad so far!

Agent_Silver;2740889
plus net have also just doubled their download limit to 2gb for the same £9.99 charge.

Didn't think +net would be mentioned in this thread :giggle:.

I know it's off topic but I recently migrated to +net's Pro package taking advantage of their 90 day money back guarantee; the only reason I did so was because of the fact that between midnight and 8am you can download as much as you want. I chose the Pro package too because according to their website it has the highest priority over their entire network at all times of the day.

Have downloaded over 20GB so far (exceeded peak allowance) during the night with a speed averaging 650 KBps (usenet).

Definitely one to consider for those of us unlucky enough not to have any decent choice of LLU like Be / O2. I have no doubt though that their basic package at £9.99 will likely suffer slow(er) speeds due to the likes of me.
As someone who came from BT, I can tell you first-hand that Be do not throttle speeds. In fact, I was shocked at just how much BT were strangling my bandwidth any time of the day or night.

The only thing which annoyed me slightly was that initially they said I was in a 24meg area, but when I finally got the service it was no quicker than what I had with BT. Still, as I say, at least they didn't kill my speed or charge me a ridiculous amount for "unlimited" use.

I just hope now I get the £8 pm deal as I've only just joined them, so aren't sure.
plus net have also just doubled their download limit to 2gb for the same £9.99 charge.
For those who just want cheap old broadband for browsing. PlusNet do a cheap £9.99 package. 1 month contract and £28 quidco cashback. Been great for my dad so far!

Myself, im on the free sky package. Am on the edge of an exchange so not worth going for anything better.

You can request a free mac code from Be and if you subscribe to O2 broadband they will not charge you disconnection fee nor penalties. And then with O2 you have a 100 days money back guarantee when yo…

Umm lots of reasons. I wouldn't get it unless I had a dynamic IP. eg Rapidshare.com allows 100mb to be downloaded every 180 mins. I just disconnect and reconnect get a new ip and then download again. The other day my ip appeared to not connect to face book. I got a new ip and it loaded instantly.
Not connecting to facebook has zero, zilch, nothing, nada whatsoever to do with if your IP is dynamic or not. All traffic is routed the same.

Why would you care if your IP was static or not?

And please for the love of god don't say security.

forum bans :whistling:
I have been with BE for a while now and they have been fine. They still rate highly on the DSLZone ISP Ratings. Click Here

I did get a phone call from O2 recently asking about switching ISP's, but I am more than happy with my £14 a month with BE.

Only thing that annoys me about Be is that i'm supposed to get a DYNAMIC ip, but can I shake it??!?! Have had the same ip address for about 3 months now... :(

Any tips would be gratefully accepted on this one guys!

One of the best ISPs around I think, and they just lowered their prices. You get adsl2+ up to 24mbit (10-16mbit are more typical), with essentially no usage restrictions (30GB/day), and 1.3mbit uploa…

I'm sorry I don't think this is quite right.

8 bits in a byte therefore 1 megabit = 128 kilobytes therefore 1.3 megabits ~166 kilobytes.

Not to sound like a pedant :-p

Yes but you will never expect to downlaod at the 166kilobytes per second because of TCP/IP overhead. I never said 1.3 megabit = 120kbytes :)
I went for this when the cashback was £24. Today quidco seems to have revised my validated cashback to £55. :santa:
Neither sales1 or sales2 will work for me this morning... anyone have any other codes for free connection etc? They's be much appreciated.
Eventually got my MAC code from orange although I didn't think they wanted to give it to me and tried to offer me some inferior deal to the be deal.

A few people menton the router/modem but as I'm only a light user I hope it doesn't cause any issues, do the odd bit of downloading and get a few hours of xbox live under my belt during the week.
Filo25
A lot of the issues do sound more likely to be down to the router, but dropping out when the phone rings seems more likely to be a line issue to me.

Probably worth speaking to Be anyway their customer support is generally not that rubbish by broadband standards!

If its a router issue I'd just use another one if you can afford it, my connection has been rock solid now since February through a Netgear DG834N, far better than with Freedom2Surf previously

Thanks, i think i'll do that :)

marc.safc
tried allkinds

before signing up with them they did a test on the line, said it would be capable of around 14mb.

i get about 6mb.

was with ukonline 8mb before them and there download speeds were faster. according to them tho the line quality is poor and with their service cant get any better speeds than i get atm, even tho before signing up i could apparently get 14mb.

and my attenuation ratio isnt the best which is likely causing the slow speeds, just feel slightly misled by what i was told before signing up

what are your attenuation ratio db and is the 1km a stright line did you get that info from samknows ???

i am going to join and mine are

1 samknows says 330m away in a stright line
2 bt true line distance 930m away
3 my donwload attenuation ratio is 13db

i have been toled by a few i should get 22mb or at a push the full 24mb

on my current provider i get
8.1mp
download 850k a sec maxed out

on be i am toled i should het 2000k a sec thats 2mb a sec now thats fast
