Nice price ! Voted hot!
#2
Sweeeet deal:thumbsup:
#3
£12 surcharge to Northern Ireland :(
#4
For this card it is a cheap price as they used to be £200+, However IMHO you would be better off with a 9600GT, which you can pick up for the same money, as it will easily outperform this card.
#5
Out of curiosity, what would a gamer be better off buying - this, or the 8800GT that was posted earlier?
#6
This is the older version on the 8800GTS based on the G80 core, thus it performs considerably worse than its G92 counterpart

8800GT (G92) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 8800GTS (G80)

LINK showing performance differences

Voted cold. You can get substantial performance differences, cooler and less power consumption from the 8800GT for £13 more not including the p+p from the site.

18FPS more on bioshock

15FPS more on Oblivion...all for £13 more with the 8800GT!

The earlier zotac is significantly faster. This has a better cooler though, mainly because it'll run hotter.
#8
mate for under 100 quid i think its good even if it is a bit outdated...
#9
Yeah but its only a tenner more for the Zotac 8800GT which comes with a decent overclock.
#10
there's no way id get this over the zotac 8800gt amp. Only £12 difference, which rules this out as a good deal
#11
Just want to know if the 8800 GT better than the 8800 GTS ? People have been telling me that, but the 8800GTS is generally more expensive. :whistling:
#12
This is a good example of people voting a deal hot because they haven’t kept up to date with the swiftly moving PC market. You’re better off with an 8800 GT 512MB and the extra money will be covered by lower electric bills.
#13
I'm afraid no HDMI port which is no good for me

I seriously don't see the need for the 9600 Card, this 1 is better and you won't need any more than this for a while, unless you want to play crysis *LAME*

Seriously bag this bargain, Great card great price. Got 2, might get my third now it's not so pricey lol

erm sorry, but the 9600GT is better than this...

2 cards??? If your running them in SLi then thats even more a waste of money... And before you buy a third, this card cannot run in in SLi with 3 cards, thats only the 8800GTX upwards and the new cards. And the 9600GT scales a lot better in SLI than this one.

Please dont make people waste their money just because you bought one and one want peop0le to believe thats its better than anything else.

I would highly recommend buying the latest "Custom PC" magazine, as they test most cards this month, singularly and in 2/3 with SLI/corssfire and 4 way.
#17
Cold. Card is well out of date, and the AMP 8800GT posted earlier for only £12 more will trounce this.
#18
cold as you can get an 8800gt for a lil bit more.
#19
Sorry cold as you can get a 8800GT for 100 quid .

There are different versions of the GTS cards. the old version were the 320mb and the 640mb varients, which this is. These cards are not worth buying as they are slower than the 8800gt

Nvidia brought out a new GTS card based on the new architecture. You can tell the difference as these new cards come with 512mb and NOT 320mb or 640mb. the new GTS (512mb) are slightly faster than the 8800gt.

You brought two? Dude these are the older versions of the 8800gts. Even the 8800gt is better.

I think the whole forum has lost its focus somewhat. Deals where originally voted hot or not based on the price of the specific product. If this is the absolute cheapest you could buy this particular item for then it's hot.

Items now get voted hot or cold because of anything from brand loyalty to an individuals personal opinion on an item or piece of technology.

If this is the item you want then it's a hot deal.
#23
i've got the POV 8800GT 512mb, which was posted here a while ago, and i'm using it at 1080p on a 42" 1080p LCD, and it is the bees knees. I've seen the 8800GTS in action, it is louder, hotter and not as a good.
#24
Just some clarification for any confused.

For performance, it generally goes

512mb 8800gts > 512mb 8800gt > 640mb 8800gts > 320mb 8800gts

Reasons are the newer g92 based 512mb 8800gts and 8800gt have significantly more shader power and also double the texture units than the older g80 based 320mb/640mb 8800gts cards.

a 9600gt won't outperform this at all.
the stacking order of the cards is:

9600GT
Old 800GTS (This one)
8800GT
8800GTS (new 512mb version)

a good bargain but i'd get the 8800GT for a tener or so mrore.
#26
Only the 8800GTS 512mb version will outperform the 8800GT. I would rather pay the extra £10 and get the 8800gt than get this. Its one of the best valued cards on the markets right now. voted it cold simpy because the other one is available at almost the same price.

Even if this is the best price for this particular card people have taken the time in this thread to link to reviews from respectable IT sites that show that this card is not good value when compared to newer cards such as the 8800 GT 512. I personally consider the overall marketplace when rating an item and for something like this where you can base your decision on objective benchmarks it is clearly for me not a hot deal.

If these cards hadn’t been so expensive 6 months or so ago I doubt the deal would have been voted so hot. But it’s an irrelevance what they cost 6 months ago, you just need to look at what they are worth against Today’s competition and it doesn’t look good from my perspective: slower, consumes more power, outputs more heat, probably noisier.
#28
Nice, but not too nice
#29
Looks like a good deal but it really isn't. You can get a 9600GT for £85 and an few 8800GT 512MB around the £105 mark. I know what I'd get.

 Agreed. Still think the 8800GT is the price/performace break point.

OMG, have they stopped teaching grammar in schools?

The correct word to use is BOUGHT, not BROUGHT. As in, you bought the game from a shop and you brought it home to play.

The level of spelling and grammar on the forums is shocking.

He's guilty of bad spelling, not grammar.

I have the old 8800 GTS (g80). It's a good card, but the GT is miles better, I wish I would've waited before going for my GTS in all honesty.

At the end of this month Nvidia will be bringing out new cards so expect further reductions on the 8800GT (g92) line!
#34
hmm where is it on the site??
#35
I standby my assertion that 9600GT is similarly priced and will outperfom this card and will use less power and have significantly better decoding ability.

Ignoring the 3dmark results as it isn't a game there's not much difference - 5% either way depending on the game. And that's at a GTS at funny clockspeeds which are less than those of this one.
#37
9600GT will overclock better than this too.
#38
Defo cold, doesn't matter if it used to be £260 the fact is it's an old tech, consumes more power, runs hotter and performs slower than newer GT and GTS G92 which only cost a tiny bit more.
#39
In terms of performance...

8800GTS 320MB -> 8800GTS 640MB -> 9600GT 512MB -> 8800GT 512MB -> 8800GTS 512MB

The absolute best price/performance aka bang for the back lies with the 8800GT. I got an XFX one for part of a new build and it plays GRID @ 1650x1050 @ 8xMSAA absolutely beautifully.
#40
Have to agree pay the extra for 8800gt it worth it
