  Whilst I appreciate the point you're trying to make, the Rugrats was an enjoyable show for adults and children alike. Or at least the early seasons were good.
  
  The Big Bang Theory is a show which was instantly adopted by the masses as soon as it started, and seeing as I knew a lot of idiots who watched it, I figured it was naff.
  
  Then I watched it myself, and grew in love with the majority of the characters. Its rewatchability is fantastic and aside from the odd character, the writing is very good. The fact that it's one of the most watched shows in America means there has to be an element of accessiblity to it, but it's still a great show, and the knuckle-dragging idiots who fob it off as 'crap' need to stop watching the likes of Miranda.

  Canned laughter is what makes American sitcoms so great. The characters do grow as each season progresses and while they do rehash the same plots(penny knock knock joke)over and over again it doesn't steer away from the geekiness of the show.

  If it didn't have the canned laughter/laugh-track I'd buy it in a heart beat.
  
  imo it takes a lot way from the show.
  I tried watching the show a few times and after flicking it on (after a few beers) late one night I did enjoy it, purely because part of my brain managed to ignore/drown out the laughter.

  i find people with little knowledge about science, heroes,comics, ....etc don't enjoy the show, if so either get more knowledge of these topics or let us enjoy the show and you enjoy whatever you like without spoiling our fun.

  Great show. Viewing a recent 'how the BBT is made' documentary, unless they are telling porkies, it is taped before a live audience, no canned laughter. In fact, if a scene or joke does not get the expected audience laughing then they revise the script on the spot. An awful lot of work is put into making the show look easy.

  There are also videos on YouTube where the laughter has been removed, and you can tell it's not put in afterwards, as the actors are clearly timing their lines around the audience reaction. It looks really unnatural they way they are if there isn't an audience there.
  
  Some people just don't have the intelligence to appreciate good comedy. Stick to Karl Pilkington and keep telling yourself that's all real...
