Do yourself a favour and don't deal with this company!

Visited this place last week .......... the place is a pit, it is a classic place where the old adage of "you get what you pay for" was meant for, basically it is all old tat. Anything that might be more useful and up to date is of comparative price as everywhere else, and everywhere else isnt a dark and dingy hole like the big offers place. oh and everything is priced without VAT ;)
What retail company closes 3 weeks before Christmas, to then reopen after the New-year?
I think that refers to the website only.

Yes I know :D but even so :|

Comment should have read....Before you can buy anything you have to travel to their shop in Edinburgh to collect your card before you can shop with them so it is a bit pointless even looking at their site if you live at the other end of the country..There is no way to email them either.

Only fools would hand over money to they muppets, same company as Boffer.. best advise is to avoid.
I was in the other week the sales guy said most of there stock was coming from companies that were going bust and they were buying up stock. I never actuall bought from them as ebay offers had the netbook my daughter wanted. I looked at quite a few items and as you say some were refurbished some new.
Looks good. Might join if others have positive feedback to give.

6 cell battery is a plus.
But with some of the other deals recently (and surely to come soon) this is not as hot as it could have been. I think the £99 is unrealistic. Certainly £130 would be hot. I think I would wait to see what comes up in the next couple of weeks rather than buy this one.
Ex display is a concerning term but the description suggests they're just returns which would hopefully mean they're virtually unused. Worth a lot more than £99 I'd say although there does seem to be a lot of competition on the refurb market right now. I own 2 Acers and one Samsung netbook and have to say I'd choose the Acers everytime.
No more than £99 for this netbook!
There is Windows XP in it, so they would have to lower the price even more to attract me
I have one of these, great notebook but battery not great, got the Samsung N150P for less than £100 so the Acer's going on ebay.

My £110 N150plus arrived in mint condition with the same missing driver issue. It's the third refurb netbook i've had on the last 18months and all three have been delivered in mint condition but two of them had minor software glitches. Makes me wonder whether the vast majority of netbook returns are nothing to do with hardware but due to software/driver setup problems that can be easily fixed by the average computer savvy person. If so, l can begin to see why so many people are apple fans (not me though). You switch 'em on and they just work.

In the meantime, until Windows (or whatever comes next) is bullet proof, then all us refurb fans will continue to benefit from cheap but A1 condition hardware. Long may it continue.
Thankyou guys much appreciated, funny thing is I did that last night but my dim brain still cant work out what to do after ive done the extract all bit of the process. oO

Seems a good price, as long as you are not a 'power user' and just want to surf the web and type documents. And Vista's not really all that bad.....Heat added.

Processor roughly on a par with an old Intel Core 2 Duo E4400:

Anyway need a data only sim are Giff Gaff or the 3 SIMs from Amazon £50!! any good?
GIff Gaff says "Mobile Internet: Mobile Internet is free until 30 JUN (with a fair use of 100MB a day). After that date it will be charged at 20p a day. If you use less than 1MB/day you'll pay less than 20p and if you go over 20MB you'll be charged extra at 20p/MB."

Not sure what and when I need to top up?

3 cell battery

Ooops...sorry :( I was just trying to find proof that an update was available and I didn't read the whole article ;)

No problem, I've mixed feelings on this..

Pros
0. Price!!!
1. Toshiba hardware
2. Keyboard
3. 2.2 and flash and Tegra 2
4. Price is unbelievable!!
5. Market and other apps can be side loaded / flashed.
6.Toshiba warantee

Cons
1. 512M ram (ok ish)
2. Poor / vanishing vendor support
3. Tiny custom ROM scene
4. No touch / interfaces anomalies reported
5. New model has no keyboard
6. Sleep and idle mode not working = dead battery
7. Out of stock as I spent too long thinking about this "casualty of the Android tablet churn / tablet release"
8. Retailer not known "to me!!" would prefer Amazon. But they seem ok... :)

Edited By: frownbreaker on May 23, 2011 09:36: retailer
Nice specification, this is the same chipset you see in most of the new Tegra based phones right? Wonder if there will be a HoneyComb update, for the screen size and spec it appears to be ideal for it.

cold, do you work for big offers?
Ah well, maybe next time I will post something less polar.
I wouldn't buy a refurb 360; I had one of this model and it went back to Microsoft 4 times and kept getting the ring of death! It was meant to be 'refurbished', but was very poor!
Would rather buy from Game than from this company. Why buy this when for a bit more you can get a 4 gig slim with built in wireless. Takes all sorts i suppose,
fattyuk
Also I'd be very wary buying a refurb xbox, as it's obviously had trod before, been repaired just to sell on so buggers chances of it going **** up compared to a new model with warranty

Definitely worth consideration.

I expect refurbs to be in a very good state. Some of the pre-owned stuff is tatty and the controllers are badly worn but I could not say for sure about this offer so, worth considering with both refurbs and pre-owned.

I'm in the market for a budget laptop but have never been a fan of HP.
Looks good spec tho for the price.
Can any of you guys help me out with a bit of advice? Cheers.

I can't stand HP laptops, but this is a decent one. Bought this for my sister (at £80 more) when she was after a cheap but "proper" laptop, and it's served her well. A little bulky for my tastes but looks okay, is built well and runs media/games better than my ultra-portable i3 (admittedly, mine doesn't have dedicated graphics).

The only things that aren't great:
- Touchpad has no obvious edges, it's flush with the handrest
- Fan is noisy and runs all the time, although it might be possible to change this in the BIOS settings. It's not my machine so I haven't tried.

Try blowing some compressed air through the fan vent you'd be surprised how much dust gathers there,

Thanks, but it's not actually a heat/cooling issue. The laptop itself stays cool - it seems that HP are a little paranoid about overheating so have set their fans to near-enough full speed all the time. Like I say, it's possible there's a manual setting to change this but I don't know...

Thanks very much for your insightful feedback Samme. Fan issue is a bit worrying, especially in light of HP's history with heat issues but I'll do a bit of googling on what's possible with the Bios, before making a decision. Cheers.

YES! Airline connector missing and poorly photocopied instructions too. Just plain dishonest! No phone number for Boffer either so no doubt we've got a fight on our hands. I'll involve trading standards if I have to. Traders like this should be cleansed from the internet.
UPDATE. Having pursued this with BigOffers I did get a prompt on line response offering £5 off which I declined and then a phone call to apologise and full refund on its way. I consider the matter closed and their reputation recovered. They blame their supplier (should open the boxes next time!).The airline connector is so that you plug it in to a standard airline seat connector (don't know what it looks like though).

Did you get a full refund and kept it?

Not yet. You need to email them and they'll respond.

I've also compared it to the original chargers for my laptop and netbook and it's bigger and heavier than both! Only advantage is the USB port. Hopeless.

I just got mine today, came in a box, all the bits loose and the adaptor is used, with loads of scratches. anyone else get the same?
YES! Airline connector missing and poorly photocopied instructions too. Just plain dishonest! No phone number for Boffer either so no doubt we've got a fight on our hands. I'll involve trading standards if I have to. Traders like this should be cleansed from the internet.
