You cant expect a Panasonic quality from Binatone, but it does the job ... :)

Slash, should be fine, its argos can always take it back.
Static on line might be your broadband filters,
Wirelss router in your area (just set to specfic channel on router)
or too much Gain on line (each phone device=1, at home normally set to 4) but can also ask for more.

or as you say it could be your phone

Good price but I always have bad experiences from Binatone, they seem to be one up from tin cans and string.

Just picked up mine, not bad at all. I don't think it has a backlight on the screen but appart from that super price considering it has spkrphone too. Sound quality is good on mine. No problems yet!

No problem and yep you are right, for £9 you can't complain. Seems to have good battery life, looks good, its really light but I am more than impressed with it.

Can anyone recommend a cheap wall-mount telephone? Need to replace the one in my kitchen. It still rings but otherwise it doesn't work! Having to run upstairs to answer the phone is good for exercise but otherwise an inconvenience.

A phone should never have to be connected to a power supply to work. In an emergency with no electricity no ones dialling 999 no matter how blady needed it is.

Let alone the use of electricity for no apparent reason.

Check out the following Tesco Gondola Phones
Catalogue number: 100-4410 and 100-8667 that come for £4.94 and £2.90 respectively.

The electricty current through the phone line would not be enough to power a recharge for the battery on a cordless handset, so it is needed...

Always best to have a basic wired phone somewhere easily accessible in the home for power cut emergencys

I think you might be confusing the REN with Gain. ;-)

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Infocenter/TeleA1.htm

The gain is usually automatically adjusted by the exchange equipment, only reason generally to override it would be if its a long line and/or your having trouble hearing the person your calling (or is calling you) due to the attentunation on the line.

Anyone know if this is GAP compatible?

I dont want to plug the base into the phone line - just the power outlet. I need to use it as an additional handset for an existing DECT phone base which is GAP compatible.
#17
I phoned Binatone helpline, who said it IS GAP compatible.

I got one of these to try out. It would be a lot better if it had a backlight, considering the original purchase price. It should have finished its 15 hour charge by the time I get home so I can have a play with it.

Is your Binatone a DECT version?

Great deal, I picked one up today and it works fine - thanks!

Would i be correct in saying these are clearer than non-dect cordless phones? Is the difference very noticable?
#23
In my experience DECT phones are a MUCH better than non dect cordless. The Dect phones I have used have all been as good as wired as far as I can tell (until you go to far away and it starts to break up of course). The non dect cordless phones I have used have all been really crackly and poor.
