Hi all,

I'm posting this as I've been looking for a cheap pre-order price on this for 360 and have drawn a blank until now! I have a horrid suspicion that there may have been another site offering pre-orders at this price, but I can't find it via the search function and can find no other trace of it. Whatever the case, this is a decent price for a new release at the best of times- but especially so for an eagerly anticipated title!

Delivery is free in the UK. I've not used the site before so would certainly appreciate any reviews from anyone who has. They don't appear to take the money now, so it will likely be upon dispatch. Correction- they do take payment soon after you've placed your order, NOT upon despatch.

No idea mate, that's why I'm hoping some HUKD'ers have used them before and can give us their opinion!

Found this www.hotukdeals.com/item/571214/pre-order-bioshock-2-for-ps3-360-fo recon that's what you saw before??

This is the price (or cheaper) that i'm hoping to pick the game up for, but hoping that the more reputable companies bring the price down prior to release. Hopefully some of the supermarkets will be doing deals.

Quite likely, well spotted. Well this is just the best option at this moment in time, it's always possible that more well known companies will come down in price as we near release!

Damn... it's a great price, but EU shipping is £5... I think I'll wait for PLAY/ZAVVI to have some vouchers or promos.

been told the ps3 version is better but if you only got a xbox i would still get it.

I know, and it was only the draconian DRM that stopped me taking up that deal.

and you posted that comment using a PC? so that would make you a nerd.

and anyway all everyone discusses is which console has the better graphics, the ps3 or the xbox 360, well its a fact that the PC wins for graphics. depending on which graphics card you are using.
#23
Ps3 version is a pc / 360 port. So as with all multi format games console wise it will be better on the 360 - as the first game MW2 etc. More FPS graphics look better tec.

That's funny as I have been told it's better on the 360 but if you only have a PS3 I would still get it, but unlike you I haven't only got a PS3 (I have both) so I don't need to post your type of comment on a 360 deal.

Good price OP

i wonder who told chelskii that the 360 version is better?maybe the same person that told him that i only own a ps3?

Here's a comparison shot: -

PS3 version is the top one. It certainly doesn't look better, that's for sure! It also loads much slower, even with the 5 GB mandatory install. Still, if you've only got a PS3 I would still get it. ;)

According to "LensofTruth", the 360 version wins due to faster loading and better reflections but suffers from worse screen tearing.
Their verdict was, one looks better, but the other runs better.
I'm playing the PS3 version at the mo, and it looks great. I'm really enjoying it, not the same feel as the first one, but still good.

Their verdict was that, even though the 360 version has the better framerate. It's because the 360 version has 2% screen tearing. The difference in performance really is negligible in that respect, but the different in graphics and loading times isn't. That's why they gave the win to the 360 version. Also, they didn't install the 360 game to the hard drive, nor did they check the option to lock the framerate which would probably get rid of the tiny amount of screen tearing (which just isn't noticeable anyway IMO). You're trying to make it sound like six of one and half a dozen of the other, when it's not.

Ermm, no i'm not, if you read the article that's what they said, when doing a direct comparison they can't install to the HDD because there's no PS3 option for a full install. The first line of my post says they gave it to the 360, what more can i say, out of the 3 categories they tested, XBOX 2 PS3 1.
I have the PS3 version which looks and plays great, i can't do a direct comparison, and even if i owned both consoles, i wouldn't buy both versions. just one, as will most people. As this is a 360 thread most people reading this will buy that version, good for them it's a great game.

That's not what I was referring to. They didn't install the 360 version, even though it can be installed in full, which reduces load times even further (and they're already considerably quicker than the PS3's). They gave performance to the PS3 even though the framerate was lower, simply because of a 2% difference in screen tearing that can be fixed if you enable V sync. You only have to look at the water in the comparison pic I posted to see that the PS3 version looks worse, it loads much slower, and the difference in performance is negligible at best. If you have both consoles, there's very little reason to buy the PS3 version.

Don't just take my word for it. Eurogamer also did a 3 page comparison of both version and their conclusion was basically this: -

In terms of purchasing decisions for those who own both HD consoles, it's fairly self-evident that the Xbox 360 version of BioShock 2 is the one to have: graphics are undoubtedly superior with four times the resolution on transparencies, the frame-rate is undoubtedly smoother, there's no HDD-sapping mandatory installation and control varies from slightly crisper to considerably more responsive, depending on the status of the PS3's frame-rate at any given point.
They also go on to say: -

This is not to say that the PS3 version of the game shouldn't be considered if you don't own an Xbox 360. The quality of the conversion is measurably better than the original BioShock, and while frame-rate drops can be irritating - coming when you really need the visual and controller feedback the most - it's still eminently playable and enjoyable.
So a worthy buy for people who only own a PS3, but their conclusion is clear when it comes to which to buy if you own both consoles.
