    I have one of these and they are brilliant, though I often forget that I do own one until after I cut through a piece of wood with a hand saw.

    I agree in part. Where these come into their own is when you need to rough cut long pieces of wood. For precision I prefer a hand saw.

    Anyone know how this would handle cutting through a 4inch by 4inch wood post?

    I had a fence put up recently but I'm pretty sure the guys who did it were stoned and the fence posts are all at a different height.

    This are not very good at all. A good hand saw is just as fast and you will get a straighter cut..

    I used it for decking a small patio and found it great for mitred joints. For precision cuts you will be better off with a hand saw.
