  My missus used our hedge trimmer just the once and guess what? She went straight through the cable. She remarked that she "was doing so well until she went through it". At least she managed to retain all of her limbs.

  You should never have let her near such manly machinery in the first place. The only things with a plug that they should be allowed near is: Iron, Hoover, Hairdryer, Hair straightners and the oven. Nothing else and Zero tolerance if these rules are breached.

  Dont talk ****... most modern ovens will run off a plug now-a-day. Halogen hobs etc need upgraded wiring MCBs and a fused spur etc.
