is this multi regional and does usb2 mean i can link up external hard drive to play movies?
#2
By external hard drive do you mean a memory stick?
If so then yes.

Don't know if it's multi regional, probably some hack will come out for it soon enough, if not already.

Just wondering if anyone has this before I part with my hard earned.

Looks like this player on Overclockers link

¨It also houses a USB2.0 slot so you can transfer and display picture and video files from stored on a USB pen drive onto your TV¨

This looks like a nicer price though :-)
#4
no i meant a 60gb external hard drive
#5
Wouldn't have a clue if it'll take a 60gb hard drive, do these have usb links these days then?

Not sure if its the same as the one on OCs as its a 5.1 surround sound on there.
#6
Yeah, I have a Philips that has a usb and you can hook up an external hdd to it - the drive needs to be formatted to FAT32.
#7
wow. great. that looks exactly like the lidl one without the hassle! i fancy getting all my dvds ripped to a harddrive or playing DVDs with divx files on my TV. and does it actually upscale? or is it just HDMI output??

EDIT: sod it, £29? just bought one :)
#8
I've just ordered it as there were only 4 left at that price. They have a whole load more of the same model for around £35 delivered I think.
#9
ordered one, thanks. Won't have to go to lidl now, wohoo!
(assuming their stock level was correct and I got there in time)

If this is it then the reviews look pretty good:

Anyone ordered from this company before? Their stock levels have gone up to 10. It may of course gone up legitimally since this post but just wondered whether its one of these companies that have unreliable stock levels. Also read bad reviews about this company.

Used them many times before, very reliable.

Ordered this afternoon, and it's already been dispatched.

Found a useful thread on this player (remove if not allowed) http://www.thedvdforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=480426

In summary (in case you want to remove the link);
It appears it's multiregion out of the box
If you use a USB device and don't see it press the GOTO button on the remote it should give a list of devices - choose USB and you should be OK
There is meant to be a firmware upgrade being worked on although no ETA.

May be of help.

I have just received mine at 10:40am this morning, i ordered it yesterday.
#18
mines arrived too - had a quick play.
Seems OK.
Shiny 1985 black in appearance but actually not a bad looking thing.
Weak dvd tray - handle with care!
Quiet.
Very impressed with usb connection, although I've only tried one file! I've tried a 350mb 40min divx video. Picture quality very good, no lip syncing problems (though very limited test). Fast forward mode worked well too.
Watching video from an (extreme 3) SD card was a non starter.

Not tried any non region 2 discs, mp3s or jpeg files.

Promising stuff - I'm happy.

So can you connect a hard drive to this?
#21
i am sure you can connect an external hard drive via USB
#22
I've got a old 40 or 80 GB hard drive sitting about that is IDE connection, how would I go about connecting this to this DVD player?
#23
The website says...

USB port supports flash drives only, not HD’s

...however im sure most would work as long as it doesnt need too much power from the USB slot (some drives have two usb connectors, the second powers the drive). timwishart, you can get external HDD enclosures for less than a tenner. But as i mentioned for this device you may need one with external power supply (a mains adapter) instead of two usb plugs.
#24
i've got an old laptop hardisk which i've put in an enclosure. I've also got another external drive which has its own power supply. For the laptop battery, success depends on the power it can take from the dvd player usb slot but I'd lay money on the other drive working if formatted in FAT.
Anyway, I'll try them both and report back.

Mine arrived in post today - looks great, although the remote is very light and plasticky, with teeny tiny rubber buttons which often stick when you press them - and you have to press them hard for them to be responsive.:-(

Oh, and I cannot get the damn thing to read any USB device. I've tried 2 USB flash drive, an Ipod Nano in drive mode, and a mains-powered external hard drive. Cant get the card slot to read anything either, although I've only tried SD cards.

I have tried countless times pressing the 'GOTO' button both on the DVD screen (the one you see when you power up) and during several DVDs....on the DVD screen it just says 'This option is unavailable' and during a DVD it asks which part of the DVD I wish to go to.

AAARGH!:x Does anybody have this problem too?? Please help.

...oh, one good thing - it reads all my XviD discs.
#26
I have not personally checked the USB but i have checked SD card and its working perfectly.

You just need to wait a little before you press 'Go to'

Hi, Just received this today. Impressed with speed of delivery. Anyone know why the input to my TV is showing as 576P. I've got another DIVX player which has an input of 720P & the picture is much better. My TV is a Panasonic Viera Plasma PX70.
#28
does this mean you can download divx stuff from the internet and play it on the machine?
is there any info on how to do this ?
thanks
#29
I have mine and have tested it on a USB pen drive with JPEGS and AVI files which work fine. Also managed to format a USB powered external hard drive to FAT32 which also works (won't work with NTFS).

I found this free application that you can use to get round the 32GB max size limit for partitions if it helps anyone (works up to XP but not on Vista)

http://www.compuapps.com/Download/swissknife/swissknife.htm

To access the USB drive once it's loaded the main page press GOTO and you will get a dropdown of the available media e.g DVD/USB depending on what you have plugged in.

From what I have tested this on I'm really impressed and it's very quiet/slim.
