Looks good, i've been looking into HTC Desire contracts and under £30 is rare, let alone with internet and decent minutes. Whats the fair usage policy though? Gotta be careful for rip-off data charges.

Edit: Just had a look, £1/day after 500mb, but you only get 15mb, then it's £2/mb after that 15...seems a bit steep! Good deal if you're not gonna use the net a lot.

40 cashback through TCB too

Yep, and if you use the internet moderatly (ie a few times a day and stream a few videos) you will easily go over 500MB. I have the HTC Hero on T-Mobile and usually hit around 2-2.5GB per month. They give you 3GB a month and don't charge you if you go over, just cap your speed.

500mb with dolphin on orange. if u go over they charge you. Surly though if you was downloading apps and stuff you would use your wifi at home which doesnt count towards your 500mb
#5
Still think I prefer mobiles.co.uk £25/month (24 month), 12 months half price redemption deal. Works out to £18.75/month overall and that's before Quidco. Still a good deal for those needing a shorter contract.

P.S. 500 MB is good for surfing, but stick to Wifi for big downloads and streams.
#6
Voted hot, nice price per month, and nice length of contract - most of these are 24 months, and there are plenty of sim plans which give you similar minutes to the deal for around a tenner (Think orange do 300 minutes and 500mb data for £10 - then spend your credit on calls, or picture messaging, or whatever)

Was told instore by phones4u that their internet arm only delt in refurbs, can't see it myslf, just putting the thought out there. Anyone got any experience??

True, but not everyone has wireless at home and sometimes you just don't have access to it when you're out. 500mb is still quite low for a month I think.

O2 doesnt charge for excess, just ask you to stop abusing, or cut off your net for a month if you really abuse it. t-mobile have 3gb a month, but allow unlimited usage for browsing and unlimited downloading/streaming during off-peak times. 500mb is stingy these days, as is charging a lot for excess.

I'm with T-Mobile and they offer 1GB for normal internet phones and 3GB for Android devices. As mentioned they don't charge you for going over either, they first send you a text message to warn when you've hit 80% and again when you hit 100% or more. Do that several months in a row and they'll start cutting your speed down, but only when you again go over.

I don't have a wireless network at home and use my phone a few times a day for browsing and video streaming and usually end up around 2.5GB each month, and have had the 80% message a couple of times, never the 100% one though.

rnt t mobile rubbish lol I went for the orange one cos i like the black phone. but yeh guess your right 500mb is a bit stingey. The panther plan with "unlimited" data is 750mb if u go over they charge u.
#12
I've got the Desire in Brown on the same deal. 500Mb is absolutely fine for me, but if I wanted more I could have gone for the Panther rather than Dolphin deal. Wifi usage doesn't count towards the limit and if you use 3g watchdog you get a good idea as to how your usage is going. I don't stream video but I do download apps, check the weather, read the news, Send the odd email (doesn't count toward the total BTW) and in my first month of usage I hit 400Mb. It's slowed down this month, so for moderate users I would absolutely encourage you to go for this deal it's an absolute cracker. Fantastic and I mean FANTASTIC phone, Free, £25 a month for 18 months? What are you waiting for :)

Oh and H&R added

Can only see a 27.50 a month (500 minutes, 3000 texts, 500 meg interwebs, ultd. Email) tariff, am I missing something? I know people will say to stop being pedantic over two fifty, but over 18 months, that's a good night out.

EDIT: Found it, it would help if i was looking at the right site eh? i went through TCB to Phones4u Rather than Dialaphone.

Do retailers only have so many of a particular tariff to sell or something because I can never seem to find these deals when they come out on here...

And what exactly are Phones4U( or indeed e2save, Carphone warehouse or any other you care to mention) in terms of a company?
If your contract is with Orange, do they get a cut of your line rental or something similar? if so would it be more beneficial to cut out the proverbial middle man and go straight to Orange themselves to see if they could do it for 22.50 a month seeing as how they haven't got Phones4U to pay in commission?

And I still cannot decide whether to go for this deal or not... :/ torn between this and the Mobiles.co.uk deal(24 month 25 notes a month, with 12 months half price by redemption) which works out slightly cheaper when you factor in the Cashback (albeit by redemption).... Advice anyone? :)

Oh and anyone thats worried about mobile internet caps, maybe think about what ive been thinking about doing, that is, buying the phone from eBay or suchlike for around 300-340, then getting on a GiffGaff plan for a tenner a month, with NO cap on internet, unlimited texts and 100 minutes and no contract. Its a bit more expensive but at least you haven't got that cap to worry about.

Anyone looking into this Phone might be interested in the Desire topic on the MSE forums: Link

EDIT: Mobiles.co.uk deal is as follows
24 months at 25 quid = 600 quid
less 12m half price line rental(150) leaves 450
Less TopCashback (50) leaves 400 quid.
so that's 50 quid cheaper for 6 months extra calls and texts on exactly the same tariff as has been mentioned on this deal. I presume everyone prefers the Phones4U deal because it doesn't involve redemptions?

I would go for the dialaphone deal mentioned. Just a flat £25 and no redemption.

Have people had their fingers burnt with all this cashback? perhaps I'm missing something but it seems to be money for nothing, just email them a scan of your bill within 60 days, i was expecting them to be really really picky to try and catch you out (send a copy of your second bill from the end of the last Egyptian calendar month etc)

Surely all the bad cashback reviews are going to be from people who didn't stick to the rules to the letter.People only tend to write reviews if they received brilliant or utterly shoddy service, and with something like cashback, receiving it is considered standard service whereas not receiving it(be it from your own fault or the fault of others)is considered to be unacceptable on the part of the retailer.

Sounds like rubbish - the Desire is flying off the shelves so there is little brand new stock, let alone refurb/returns!

They are on commission so the very the last thing they want is for you to walk out and buy it online.

Does anyone else think that the prices will come down when Jobs announces a new iPhone tomorrow? Someone suggested it on the MSE forums I was reading and I guess it stands to reason... Worth holding out for another week perchance?

I haven't read it anywhere but that's what I was thinking - the prices should fall when the new iPhone is in the shops (as opposed to it's anouncement).

Anyone else think 500MB is enough for moderate surfing?

I'd prefer an O2 deal but can't see any from third parties with data :x

Don't quote me on this but I remember reading on the O2 forums website that some people have received theirs without screen cover / not properly sealed. Other posters on the forum suggested this is the case with the refurb versions of the phone. I think these will mainly be people who return it within the grace period of taking out a new contract. One person found data on the phone from the previous user that was not properly erased/formatted. Can't give a link to justify this as I read it on a really long thread some time back. But to be fair, the posters said that their phones were otherwise in mint condition. Just posting to let you know that there are refurbs kicking around out there.

On a side note, I believe the limited supply is due to shortages of the AMOLED display on the suppliers side, Samsung.

I've got the same deal and I have to say (for me) 500Mb is just fine. I've got plenty of Wifi hotspots near me and my wifi when I'm at home. You can configure the phone to switch off 3g and or wifi plus if you use 3g watchdog (great app) it gives you a rundown of your actual usage and provides a countdown to your end of month switchover. In the 1st month I had it most of my mucking about with apps etc was done at home, and I ended up using 400Mb. Just watch out if you're streaming. That WILL burn your allowance. General surfing though I would say you'd be fine. I'm more than happy with this deal.

Try http://www.omio.com/phones/htc/desire/deals
You can tick the "Unlimited Internet Only" box and select O2 in the network list. Also contract length etc. have to say though, nothing compared to the Orange deal ;)

with the t-mobile contract can i connect to the internet, without paying extra, does anyone know?
#32
Blimey Charlie... I'm going to have to look I to this fair use stuff a bit. I always thought 500 was plenty but it seems not.
It might also explain my £15 bill being closer to £40 last month!
Great deal if you use it right, but the potential dangers put me off a bit. For now at least.

wait for the iphone, will be much better.

Best hold off for a bit.
The Desire is being replaced immanently, so will be doing the rounds in the contract offers over the next few weeks or so

Whilst the new iphone is undoubtedly higher spec (not by much mind, just a front facing cam and 720p vid recording), it will also be significantly more expensive.

For a similar deal you'll be looking at £35 a month (see http://shop.o2.co.uk/new-iphone/tariffs.html) and you'll be paying ATLEAST £200 for the phone (current iPhone 3GS is £150 on same contract http://shop.o2.co.uk/promo/iphoneindex/Pay_Monthly/3G_S). So over the length of the contract it'll be an additional £380, and you'll still be bored of the phone by the end of the contract term!

I'd say take the big saving and enjoy android!
#39
Also, not sure if it's been mentioned but there's £35 cashback from Quidco!

Thank you + rep given

I thought only O2 provided wifi via BT with their unlimited internet packages?

Do Orange/T-Mobile/Vodafone also have something similar?
