#4
considering the here-and-now this is the cheapest i think. Although it may drop in price, but thats a risk you have to take.

That's right, having GPS on a mobile device allows a fairly accurate location on a programme like Google Maps. You can download it to a device, search "google maps" on a phone and it should direct you to it.

For a Sat Nav programme you typically need to buy a product, the result similar to other Sat Nav devices, and include features such as voice-turn navigation.

i called play to ask on the off chance somebody would know something but the lady told me she can only tell me what it says on the product description. also from the videos i have seen on youtbe the t-mobile ones do seem to be branded and i think locked
#11
Looks like a nice price, my gf is considering one of these so I have sent her the link, thanks!
#12
No 3g though which is a huge letdown, especially for a blackberry.

Still, hot deal & nice price.

Although the picture does not show the 8520, it still applies to this phone.

TIP: Using the 'Live Chat' button in the top right corner, ask them a question like 'Would you be able to unlock the 8520 on T-mobile'...they will reply and usually give you a 30% off voucher code :)

Now available on 10/02/2010 :)

I have one on PAYG, great phone with cool different apps you can download some which are free. It's also connected to my home wireless network, you can also connect to public networks and it's quick browsing. It doesn't have 3G and it is locked to the network. If you get it unlocked it will only work as a normal phone, some apps like Facebook, Myspace, Flickr and a few others won't work any more along with the BlackBerry messaging feature, you will need to log into those networks from your handsets browser. If you do decide to get one then make sure you have an unlimited internet PAYG plan. If you get one on contract you will get the unlimited data plan which has a lot more features.

The camera isn't great but does the job in good lighting conditions, the video quality is acceptable. It has a normal headphone jack (3.5mm). Mine has a 2GB SD card which is sufficient for my needs.
The battery usage is good, some apps will drain the battery but you can change the settings to your needs.

I think the thing which makes this phone good is all the different apps you can have, also if your a social media nerd then this ones for you.

Go into th Orange shop £149.00 and only have to add £10.00 top up. Making it £159.00 in total.

Or buy online phone £149.00 plus £20.00 top up and go though Quid Co and get £12.00 cash back so £157.00 in total.:

Donno why this is expired...

I ordered mine at the beginning of jan from kays, I used a 20% voucher and got it for £151.20 interest free over 52 weeks... its coming on 8th feb :)

when u say gps do u mean like a sat nav? how does google maps work on this?

Google Maps runs by finding your location using the mobile phone network (I presume triangulating your position using cell sites). This works ok but could be as much as a km out but even so you can just make the adjustment on the map yourself from there. You wouldn't be able to use it as full blown sat nav but you could still find your way around with this.

A couple of people have mentioned lack of 3g in my opinion Blackberry do not work well with 3g anyway. I've had the Bold and the Storm on Vodafone and they would drop off the 3g network every now and again and seem incapable of rejoining the 2g part. May have just been network specific but was a pain! In the end I resorted to just permanently turning the 3g off.
Everything you download eg web pages etc on a Blackberry is massively compressed so even without 3g web pages load quite quickly so it's no great loss.
#25
I've had a non 3g blackberry 8900 before, its fine for everything - your emails come through quick as anything the only thing non 3g ones suffer from is obviously slower internet - still usable and certain apps like facebook can take long to look at photos etc.

I have been told that blackberry locks the fone to the specific sim card that comes with the phone. I have an existing t-mobile sim/contract which i want to use with the phone and not the pay as you go chip sup[plied. Obviously i would have to pay the xtra 10pounds for the bb services but Im not sure how accurate this information so if anyone has any advice please help.

just to let you know i got mine' BlackBerry Curve 8520 - Pay as you go 'in carphonewarehouse on line for £159 +£10 topup, £169 total. and Unlocked its £179.95 plus £10 topup, £189.95total on website

i went into one of there stores and asked them would they match the price of orange web site £149 (handset) + £20 top up, he didnt belive me ,the price and checked online, but when he asked his manager he said no.

so i went home rang up carphonewarehouse and said the same as i said in shop and asked if they would match price with orange web site, and after a minute been left on hold he said yes to £169 thats includes £10 topup and he said phone would be unlock as well to use any sim. so a bargain, my daughter will be happy :-) so its worth haggling on phone for a bargain .
anyone know any good sites that have free ringtones,screensavers... ? for the blackberry.
thanks advance

yeah i was going to say this! and it's been at that price in orange stores for a while and generally speaking Orange over t-mobile any day of the week. If a blackberry handset (specifically) purchased directly from Orange is faulty they send you a replacement within 24 hours via courier within the 12 month warranty period

hi, there is nothing on the phone 'logo'
and yes i asked if they could price match what orange have on the web site, and if they would i would buy it from them and if not order from orange,
but just wanted to see if they could match the price.
its unlock and have put in 3 , o2, tmobile and orange sim all work so far :-)
#31
Got on for £179 unbranded like you said.
Sales agent was matching price but took off the top up - can't complain the next nearest unbranded one is available from handtec at about £185 but also £5.00 delivery.

prob just depends what Sales agent you get at the other end of phone, this is the number i rang,
Sales advice 0870 087 0870 , i just explained that i wanted to buy a phone off them and i was looking at there web site for the blackberry 8520, but i notice that today on Orange web site has the same phone but cheaper, that if they could price match i would like to buy it off them , after been put on hold came back and said yes we can do that, so reckon it all depends who you get on other end of phone.
