In a nutshell, can anyone tell me how good this is? I really fancy having a Blackberry, and at this price, very tempted.
#3

Not a great phone, has no camera or wifi. Nokia E71 is much much better than this. Only half decent feature is it has built in GPS but not much more than this. When it comes to phones you literally get what you pay for!

I have this phone, and can confirm it does have wi-fi. It's a nice phone but a couple of years old now.

Great phone and a decent enough price but it's getting fairly old now and I could really recommend going for the 8900 curve if looking to buy a Blackberry, seems to be better in most respects :)

An out of date mobile with no 3G or HSDPA compatability.
Pay a little extra for the Nokia E71

Not everything that's cheap is a bargain

yes but email works just fine without 3G
blackberry's email system is much more nicer than nokia's
I have been using BBs since 3-4 years ago and I will stay more years with them if email system will stay this good

My MP has this phone, with GPS and he also spent £142 on toilet roll last year for his office. No connection but gives an idea of the people who like Blackberrys :-D

I have an older model and it's great for the house but it's a brick and I'd never use it outside because of the keys and bulk.

Try one out in a shop first.

I agree that £142 is a lot to spend on toilet roll but if there's one area you don't want to cut expenses I would say toilet roll is it.

Hot deal btw.

Ah, mine is a 8820.

No wifi nor 3g nor hsdpa. Such dated technology would make for frustrating web surfing.

I've been using one of these for about 2 years, issued to me by work. I would describe this as basic compared to latest models and of course the far superior iphone. However one plus point is that it can stand a decent amount of abuse. I have dropped this down concrete stairways, regularly kept it in my keys pocket, etc etc. and although it looks a little battered, it still works like day one.

Shame all that abuse didn't improve the user interface.

Edit : wrong thread

I thought Blackberrys used their own web network thing for e-mail..etc which would mean if you stuck just any random SIM card in this then you would be able to make calls but not have web access unless you were using a Blackberry web network thingy compatible SIM...?

Bought a well used example of this phone from Ebay a couple of months ago for a very reasonable £40. Primarily bought it because I was fed up with my Motorola Z10 and wanted to dip my toe into the Blackberry market until my contract was up for renewal in October. I can confirm that the 8800 has no camera or wifi, so if these are a must have for you then look to other models, it does have GPS map software which can be handy.

The Blackberry's PUSH email system is simple to set up and has an excellent user interface, I can't see how it could be bettered by its rivals. I've may go for the Curve in October or I might even hold onto the 8800 for a while, it does what it needs to for me although having wifi would be handy.

The E71 is simply brilliant. I got mine SIM free as good as new boxed for £130
