voted hot because of your username

phone i'm currently using, what a great phone - love it...and I find a new feature everyday
#3
Really good phone but you can't take adavantage of it's best features on PAYG. Also voted hot because your username though.
#4
This phone is spoilt for me by no 3g, and a an average quality camera, but not a bad price a few quid less than elsewhere.
#5
does anyone knows if it can be unlocked to work with 3 Network?? thanks

No 3G, so no. 3 require you to have a 3G phone as otherwise they have to pay orange, who they rent 2G towers from for signal where no 3G is present.
#7
Also voting hot for your username lol, but yes it is a good deal :p
#8
No 3g = longer battery life.

It does have Wi-Fi and EDGE.

Can be unlocked with online code available from various sellers or free for AV Forum members here:

Are people seriously voting this deal hot because of the completely unrelated username of the op? I almost feel like voting cold just to even things out but that would be almost as absurd as voting the deal hot because the op has a supposed cool username. Makes a mockery of the hot/cold rating system, then again I never pay any attention to it since I can make my own mind up if a deal is decent or not. Edit : Voted this deal hot because strangely I consider it to be a decent deal. Wish there was an op username rating system though.

Btw who here uses Blackberry messenger? I've heard it's pretty decent works via wifi or existing data plan.

Here's what it's about >

http://www.howstuffworks.com/framed.htm?parent=blackberry-messenger.htm&url=http://crackberry.com/blackberry-101-lecture-8-basics-how-use-blackberry-messenger

Might interest some people, biggest disadvantage is it's Blackberry to Blackberry only.

T-mobile site have this for £149.99 plus 20 quid top up which gives you unlimited net+BB for 6 months, I think also unlimited text.

Getting the same deal when bought from Amazon?

Good price but poor phone, the internet is painfully slow.

Is it still slow when using Opera Mobile on the phone lets say via Wifi?
#12
so what does this cost to send/received emails with PAYG?
need a phone for email plus voice calls and nothing else really, is this a good way to do it?
could i use my PAYG TalkTalk sim in this? (after unlock, obviously)
#13
Plus for the username too!

I'm the only one incensed by this stupidity (in my opinion) it seems. I must be wrong then :)

A username is not a hotdeal, so why are you voting this deal hot because of a completely unrelated username?

As far as I understand it voting Hot is meant for qualify that you think the deal is good and giving rep is for saying the person has a good reputation on this forum. Neither seem appropriate for voting a username hot.

Maybe I'm being churlish, but for example if you own a car and want to sh*t on the seats that's up to you, but if the car is shared by a number of people and you sh*t on the seats then the other people aren't going to be too happy are they? So could you possibly refrain from cluttering up this forum with your, well you get the idea.

I think the fact that he said PLUS for the username means its a hot deal and PLUS your username is good too

You could be right, I picked on the wrong person then, there were others though I think. Or maybe I just need to cool off in the rain when it gets here.

What's that got to do with anything.

Course it won't be slow over wifi/

No, don't doubt yourself old man ;)
You're right on the mark with your comments. Really annoying, stupuid people with too much to say. This place is like a jeriatric ward in a hospital these days with the quite frankyl embarassing sense of humour people seem to have, go have a look at that deal on the "gate"...makes you want to cry!
#19
is this sim locked?

Can i use it on o2?

I disagree. Both the 8520 and the 8900 are, IMVHO slow over WiFi when surfing the web.
#21
HOT deal, great basic blackberry phone

internet is a lot faster on WiFi, not noticed much difference on Opera Mini

BBM is great, although for blackberry to blackberry, BUT you can also download the Windows Live Messenger app and WhatsApp, which is between blackberry and iPhone
#22
Voted Hot! For wkd. username!!
#23
8520 or 8900?
which is better

8900 as it has gps but they are both not 3g compatible

But then again the 8900 will be much more expensive and if you can live without the navigation then the 8520 will be fine for you to browse and receive email.

The phone doesn't have 3G is what he meant, I didn't realise that until I looked it up on gsmarena, Wifi will be faster than Edge of course or should be.

im using this phone atm and love it! I am disabled and have painful hands and this is easy for me to use with minimum effort.

Well the battery life on this phone is terrible so I guess they needed to cut corners is any way it could lol.

You're correct. My lass has this phone and it's very slow over wifi compared to my BB 9700. The battery life is naff too.
#30
The reason they're slow over wifi too is they use BIS no matter what connection they are on (and also the software the phone is on might not be as tweaked as other bbs), so if BIS is slow (which it is) then wifi will be. One of the main problems with bb if you ask me.. however I won't be getting rid of my 8900 any time soon!

PS. the 8900 is superior to the 8520 in many ways, much better screen res, better camera, GPS (as stated before), slightly better battery life (imo), and it feels a lot more expensive in the hand...all that said, its still a damn good phone for the price.

Does anyone know if that would work with Virgin sim and could you use BB messaging without the BB service sub? Cheers

you can't use BBM without paying for the service
#34
Don't know why the 8900 is being compared - it is double the price!!!
I bought one last week from Argos for 149 plus 10 mandatory top up. Has given me 6 months free internet, email and bbm.
Great phone; yes it is slow over the net but you can live with that!
Have already unlocked it for free and spent many hours busily messaging!
#35
Carphone Warehouse now has this online for £138.95 + £10 topup with T--Mobile PAYG. Free delivery and it's unlocked.

£5 Quidco.
#36
Currys have this in-store for £129.99. You have to buy a £10 t-mobile top-up but it isn't added to the sim. Online is £149.99
#37
for all of you considering this phone, dont even bother. Its like a wii, the novelty wears off within a week for the fact you are in the blackberry gang.

A better, cheaper alternative coming from someone whos had both phones is the Nokia E63. And the E71 actuallly, having had both an E63 and an 8520, the 8520 isnt even worth a comparision.
#38
I think Sickipedia has probabily sumed up the Blackberry; for all those people who are juggling this offer:

Today I woke up in time for work, thanks for the alarm I set on my Nokia N97. I then received a message from my friend on my Nokia N97 asking me how I was doing. I then took a nice brisk walk through the park to go to work, when I suddenly saw this beautiful bird. I took a picture using my Nokia N97 and sent a picture message to my friend, who also has a Nokia N97. After work I went home and put my Nokia N97 on charge because the battery was dying.

Now see how bloody annoying that was, Blackberry users?
