you'd have to pay me £169 to have to use this paperweight

don't you just hate people who make comments like this.... very little justification for the comments but people like him often come out with:

    "I wouldn't wipe my ar$e with it"
"I wouldn't use it as a paperweight... let alone an advanced piece of technology"
"I wouldn't let my dog look at this..."

all designed for a reaction and to try to put forward the thought that the writer is a very intelligent, technologically astute person - yet all anyone else reads is "you're a nob"

After spending all day thinking about this, and then being tempted further by the HTC Flyer prices, I went to a store tonight to try them out.

Conclusion: I'm buying neither. Found them very disappointing.

I think I've been trying to force myself to believe I need a tablet, and the fact is that I don't.

My iPhone 4 (exploiting RSS) covers mobile. And netbook + laptops + desktop PC do everything else.

    170 quid saved.

You've got to laugh at the many jerk-off comments being left on the tablet deals knocking round,
the numpties spouting off as though they've owned every tablet out there is just getting ridiculous!!

The playbook is a fantastic little piece of kit - been playing round with it last 2 days and its worth every penny - being the owner of many apple apps - i have come to the opinion apps are well overrated.
We download them by the stackfull - but how many do we use more than very occasionally ?

A great quick responsive touchscreen, excellent internet browsing ability, plays flash video and all its other abilities make the playbook a brilliant performer.

Those slagging it must have paid well over double the price for something no better and are more than just a little suffering from the old green eyed monster taking control lol !!
If the price drops next few days great i'll be back to currys for my price match refund

How?Surely teething problems only relate to when a device is new?

My little boy has teething problems and he's not new. We've had him several months now.

What is wrong with you peeps ? This is clearly a deal, as the original price is much higher and has been dropped by a significant margin !
If you cant make your own judgement call on this, then i suggest this site isn't for you, as you'll be bankrupt in no time at all & wondering who to blame lol !

Read up, make a decision, okay it with your bank balance/wife/whoever & enjoy or not, simple as that ah ?
Btw i bought in x 2 actually, already got an ipad2, think the playbooks a smart piece of kit, in my price range, does stuff my ipad dont..... Decision made.

This site is simply here to inform you, not control you lol !!!

I can't believe the number of people buying these for their kids for Xmas. The most I ever got from my Dad was a metal figurine made out of bolts and screws from poundland and for the last 10 years he's bought me nothing. My son's first christmas this year and he's got nothing either.

    Anyway, heat added.

i got one when quidco were doing the £100 cashback (still waiting).
Nice little device. I've loaded the OS2 beta and have some android apps on it working fine (twitter, mail, kindle, bbc, scrabble, guardian news), Its great for watching on the TV with a small HDMI cable, and i've used liveonlinefooty, and lovefilm through it great. Sky Go doesn't work though as it uses Silverlight

One thing to watch is that on wifi mine doesn't like N settings enabled, meaning it dropped off the network every few minutes so i had to change the settings on my router!
  20. Infiltrator's avatar
Got one reserved, but the more reviews I read the more I think I'll leave it at the shop. The wifi connection issue itself is reason enough to walk away from this deal

no email or calendar app? is this true??

At the moment, yes. It uses the app on the Blackberry handset for each. However this is due to change with the update coming in Feb. You can get round the mail issue by just using the browser though and viewing mail through there. If you have a Blackberry handset then this isn't an issue, I think they really did aim this device at Blackberry owners rather than just people looking for a tablet.

I had been saying they will soon be available at around £150 and the new stock & pricing is obviously by RIM HQ. Should have been set at 150 to equal $199. They have hundreds of thousands of these in US stock. A recent financial article analyzed how they lost nearly a billion dollars on their tablet venture. Bottom line is no SD card slot but Android now possible on a good hardware spec. The native OS is good but with a tumbleweed roll town of apps it is the same dead-end story as webos. The real hope is if CM or someone can do ICS for this at some point, summer?, if no nasty surprises in drivers. I wouldn't bet the farm RIM putting ICS out there. RIM which was as greedy as apple to deny a SD card slot wouldnt do that as they hope to sell other versions in future with ICS. So only CM/xda people will. There are plenty of stocks, unlike discontinued touchpad, and the price will never go up again unlike fire sales and both of these points were made officially by RIM. So don't worry about not getting any. I wouldn't be surprised if they are selling at £150 in a months time but for a solid build and quality display plus 1 GHz dual core plus Android @ £170 = good deal.

I'd say thats a bit extreme. iPads have the worst tablet OS in terms of funtionality, although it is probably the most stable, and of course has iTunes for apps. Android and QNX (heck, even WebOS) are a lot more advanced and offer much more features and customisation compared to iOS. It really is just a giant iPod touch. Build quality does really excel with the iPad 2 though (iPad 1 was awful, both in terms of looks and because of the flexy back). And that is pretty much consistant with apple products, although the Playbook still has a better screen than the iPad, as well as superior stereo speakers.

Either way, I'm sick of people going on about how the iPad is the cream of the crop, its not. Its like saying that CoD is the best gaming franchise ever created. Its not. Its a mainstream product for people who want to be with the 'in' crowd. ASUS Transformer and Transformer Prime will be leading the way for a while to come, as everything it offers is superior to the iPad, even build quality & materials.

You also say that you cant compare the two, and then make a comparison.

    scoot

you get 2 reciepts one for the blackberry and one with the £50 voucher … you get 2 reciepts one for the blackberry and one with the £50 voucher onalthough it did say online you get it via emailbe nice if you get another one via email 8)but thats probally if you are buying onlinethese are never gonna be as good as an ipad 2 but the cheapest ipad 2 (i.e 16gb wifi) is £399this is only £169 (minus £50 voucher off £200 spend) and quido so around £117and is excellent for me as a present as the lad has a blackberry phone tooyou can also tether your blackberry phone for internet while you are out and about (i.e. on holiday)the blackberry will act as the modemso about a 3rd of the price of the 16gb ipadyou cannot compare the twoits like comparing a vauxhall vectra agaisnt a porsche boxter

If it came down to £89 like the HP Touchpad - id have a punt.

But based on reviews, peoples feedback and having a small go with one in Currys... Still seems overpriced at £169...

Seriously though, are the sheeple punch drunk?

You all know these flopped at or close to RRP. You all know they will likely fall further in price from here.

I saw this deal this morning, and figured 200-300 degrees. Not 2300+. This is getting silly.

    Welcome to my ignore list

You better add me to your list too Punkstoner. Whilst I dont agree with making personal attacks and assumptions about your personal life, I do agree that you have said your piece once regarding this being obsolete, - why not leave it at that? The whole issue regarding pros and cons of buying this item was covered several days ago. Have you not considered that this may be a marketing strategy by RIM to sell off its stock which admittedly did not sell as well as it had hoped early this year on release? Only YOU are talking about this being obsolete and quite frankly, we are not interested.

This is the second hottest thread of all time for a reason. People clearly are not interested in your anti Playbook/Blackberry spouting. The temperature is evidence of that, - accept it and find somewhere else to troll !

Oh dear I've reserved one of these for about the 4th time and I think I've changed my mind again, seen the Asus Transformer Prime 'reviews' and that thing looks amazing. I think if I got one of these I'd always be feeling underwhelmed and wish I'd put the money towards something better. Currys are going to stop me using reserve and collect if I'm not careful lol...
