But heat added for best price.
wow that's an expensive remote!
Becomes double the device if you have a BB handset though.
I'm afraid that you can no longer root the playbook. RIM closed the back door exploit just before V2 OS came out. I have one and I must say that it's definitely built with quality in mind.
On the up side:
1) Excellent screen resolution and responsiveness.
2) As mentioned, quality is excellent. Feels like a metal case (anyone confirm this?) with rubberised coating for grip. Feels very solid and doesn't bend in normal use. Stereo speakers that point out from the side of the screen and not downwards give good quality and loudness for their size.
3) You can use the HDMI port (with suitable cable) to display on your TV with HDMI port. I have done this to play digital movies that I own. Because the playbook can play HD resolution the picture quality is very good.
4) Good battery life - I usually get up to 10 hours of average usage (reading books, browsing the web etc.)
5) You get some excellent apps pre-loaded such as Need for Speed (driving game), a combat game (I cannot remember the title) and an office suite that does quite a good job. The browser is flash compatible - Android is also compatible but iPad is not (no current apple devices are)
6) If you have a Blackberry phone, you can link the two devices for extra functionality. I have an android phone and it can't do this. I do understand that the Blackberry linkup is quite good though.
On the down side:
1) android compatibility is very limited and not easy to use - in normal use, you can only download android apps that have been specially ported to the blackberry app store. You cannot get apps from Google Play. Unless your playbook is still on one of the original rootable versions of the OS and you are prepared to do some hacking...
2) Although it has a micro USB port, this is a USB-OTG port (USB on the go) and requires a compatible cable. It is meant for devices such as keyboards. You cannot use external storage such as USB sticks or hard drives as Blackberry have blocked them for security reasons.
3) The other down side is that apps in the Blackberry store are about 3 to 5 times as expensive as the equivalent in Google Play (if it's not free in Google).
I like my playbook and it is a brilliant device if you just stick with the basic apps or pay for the blackberry ones, but am seriously considering selling it for a pure android device. I would miss the screen and the quality but I would gain flexibility and a wider app base. Oh, and I want a larger screen such as the Galaxy Tab 10.1" though I think the blackberry resolution is still better.
For the money, it is very good value and it is just the restricted app base that lets it down.
