Am I missing the point? I have generally bought a number of unlocked phones over the years (the last being an unlocked Bold 9000) but having looked at one or two deals and cashbacks with Quidco etc. I am left wondering why pay nearly £300 for a phone? Many deals seem to work out at £20-£30 a month with a Blackberry, I-phone or whatever so it takes at least a year or more to get your money back on a £300 outlay? Am I missing something?

Two possible reasons:
1. People are already in a long contract but still want to upgrade their phones.

2. Some people prefer Pay as you go so they know 100% that they are not spending more than what they should. A contract is an open thing so if you can not control yourself you can end up spending more.

If you're going to get a blackberry, you're better off getting one on a contract which comes with BIS. Otherwise it's rather pointless having the BB.

Don't know what BIS is, other than the British Infection Society, :w00t: which I got from google. Not wanting an infection, anytime soon, so would be nice to know what it is.

Is it one of the data bundles? Thanks

agreed, was just about to post the same thing.

If you have a BB you need BIS, Blackberry Internet Services which does all the email forwarding and activates certain functions. The phones are locked to this service.
