This is the 5 Disc Blade Runner Collection on Blu Ray. We only got the DVD version here in the UK but you can get the US Blu Ray version (which is region free) for a total of about £18.14! I had this set shipped over from the US on its release for about £26 and i don't regret it so at this price i think its a steal. Once again i can personally confirm this is region free.

Celebrating the 25th anniversary of iconic sci-fi masterpiece Blade Runner, the 5-Disc Ultimate Collectors' Edition is the definitive Blade Runner collection. This Collectors' Edition brings together for the first time all five versions of the film, including Blade Runner: The Final Cut, which saw Ridley Scott go back into post production to create the long-awaited definitive version of the classic film.

The 5-Disc Ultimate Collectors' Edition also includes an entire disc with hours of enhanced content, including new featurettes and galleries devoted to more than 45 minutes of deleted and alternate scenes recently discovered in deep storage and approved by Ridley Scott. There is also background on author Philip K. Dick, script development, abandoned sequences, conceptual design, anaylsis of the overall impact of the film and how it lead to the birth of cyberpunk.

Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer, Edward James Olmos, Joanna Cassidy, Sean Young and Daryl Hannah are among some 80 stars, filmmakers and others who participate in the extensive bonus features. Among the highlights is "Dangerous Days", a brand new, feature-length documentary by award-winning DVD producer Charles de Lauzirika, with an extensive look into every aspect of Blade Runner: its literary genesis, its challenging production and its controversial legacy. The definitive documentary to accompany the definitive film collection.

5 discs? lol

I've checked it through checkout, £18.14 is the final price, still a hot deal, thanks :)

Thanks to mod for editing price. I was actually unable to go to checkout as it requested my credit card details to verify address which i couldn't provide as I don't have a credit card. What pushed up the price, was the P+P more than the normal $4?

I bought this in March from Amazon.com. As it turned out the Final Cut disc had been mis-pressed as the Workprint version, which is a completely useless waste of time.

Over twenty five years I had waited to see the "proper" cut of the film and Warner Brothers had flipped it up for me, sort of put me off buying movies. They are so upset with people ripping off films but can't be actually be bothered to take care to make sure what they sell is of reasonable quality. IIRC it was the second time they had screwed up production of the "collectors" edition so good luck if you decide to buy it :)
#7
Mine was fine although i did buy it much closer to release date and from ebay. If you bought it in March then they'll probably have fixed the problem by now if it was widespread.

I have this and its one of those rare occasions where dvd (in this case blu-ray) extras are actually amazing. This and the extended 2-disc cuts of the alien films are the best extras you can find. Really interesting stuff.

Film looks jaw-dropping in HD too. All cleaned up and looking brilliant. When you watch the older transfers you can really see how far we've come.

At the risk of sounding thick:whistling:
Will this play on my blu ray player over here as this disc comes from the US?

Thanks

It's listed as an all region disc so it should work fine.

As it go over £18 will we get stung by customs even if it is by 14p ?

Thanks Dynamo.

I don't believe so, as the cost pushing it over £18 is postage, think its only if the item itself is over £18 that it counts ( and then postage gets included in the sting )
#14
What what what? what movie is this? I need to watch it.

Doubt Customs would worry about 14p but if its delivered by Royal Mail I wouldn't put it past them to charge Customs fees so they can add on their £8 profit, sorry, I mean "admin fee".

Might chance it anyway. It is one of the best movies ever and should look great in HD.

Plus i think it depends on wether Amazon include p+p on the box where it says Product Value. If they do thens theres a small chance of extra charges. If they don't then its highly unlikely. Anyway I'm not even sure if Amazon have the 'Product Value' bit. I'm only going off what Play does.

As for the package itself it will fit through the postbox. Its less than the thickness of 2 normal blu ray boxes (when normal is the Beetlejuice Blu Ray). ;-)

It's definitely Region ABC (as I believe are all Warner's Blu Rays), so it will work fine in the UK.

If you're a Blade Runner fan it's superb.

EDIT: It turns out that as recently as September 2009 some (not all) copies despatched from Amazon.com are reported as having the mis-pressing issue (i.e. what's labelled as Disc 1 - The FInal Cut is actually the Workprint), so be careful. I think Warner's replace the duff discs directly, if you contact them.

Got this for £8 delivered a year ago, is £18 really a good deal nowadays??

yeh was under a tenner last year.

I bought mine from Amazon.com as a pre-order in Dec 07 and got it delivered beginning of 2008. It's still sitting on the shelf unopened. On the back it says it contains all 4 official versions PLUS the workprint. Does this mean in one's where it's been mis-pressed that it contains 2 copies of the workprint, 1 being in place of the Final Cut?

Cheers,

I just checked mine as the previous comment alarmed me. Disc 1 states the Final Cut [just popped it in and Ridley starts by saying that] and Disc 5 states Workprint.

I purchased my on Ebay ages ago probably around early 2008.

Good price by the way.

Yeah, that's basically it. In some cases disc 1 is labelled the Final Cut but it's actually the Workprint that comes on when you play the disc. The only way to find out is by playing disc 1. If it is The Final Cut it's obvious pretty quickly.

Sorry guys should have posted this myself ordered it about two weeks ago but hasnt arrived yet due to postal strike

I'm sure I only paid about £10 for this a while back.

Very unlikely. That was probably just the Final Cut which was released on Blu Ray in the UK. This edition contains all 5 versions of the film aswell as a ton of great quality extras.

Why would you need 5 versions of a film? By the way i've never seen this film, so don't know what the fuss is all about. Is it any good, what makes it so good?

The history of the film production/release/re-issues are bit complicated. So there are good reasons why an "enthusiastic" fan might want to see all the five discs in the collectors edition.

I really just wanted to see the Final cut in high quality HD, but thought it would be sensible to import the collectors edition for near the price (at the time) of the UK standard BluRay release, just in case I felt I wanted to see and compare the older versions again. As it stands because of the Warner Bros miss-pressed disc fiasco I have now only seen a slightly flaky HD rip of the movie :x

This http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blade_Runner may or may not clarify why the history of the production is complicated :)

Its considered to be one of the greatest sci-fi movies ever made and regularly tops most polls. Its a classic in every way. As for why you would need 5 versions well you'd understand why if you were a fan or even if you just knew the history of the film. The fact that there have been so many different versions with different people enjoying different ones means having a set with all of them in one place is a fans dream come true especially when most of them are out of print and extremely difficult to get a hold of even though it was one of the first films ever released on DVD.

I mean after i first saw the film about 6 years ago on TV and was blown away by it, i immediately went to try and get it on DVD. I searched everywhere but no place had it instock but eventually I found a guy selling his copy on ebay. It sold for over £60 which is when i realised it was going to be near impossible for me to get a hold a copy and i started campaigning (along with the millions of other fans) for a re-release of the film. At one point the film was due out in 2004 but it never came and there was no news of it ever coming to be until a few months before this blu ray was released.

So you can imagine how all us fans feel not only having the film released but remastered in HD and having 5 versions of the film in one set along with a huge selection of extras. It almost makes it worth the wait.

Nope, he's right, about a year ago this exact release was posted on here for less than £10 delivered. I have it

Wow! If your right then what a deal that must have been! Amazon US was probably having one of its amazing discount sales.

No, it is definitely the 5 - disc complete collector's edition and is the US version.
#33
The Final Cut version on Blu Ray is definitely worth having. The improvements on sound quality alone are far superior to that of previous releases. Overall an excellent transfer to Blu Ray of an older film.
#34
Is it worth reading the book first? I read Dune before i watched the film adaptation and was really disappointed with the film.

The book is brilliant, probably P K Dick's finest. The film explores some themes from the book, but ignores others, It also expands on the ideas it does use differently to the book. I think it also adds flavours from other PKD books which aren't in DADOES. Both works are superb, they complement each other fantastically but they are in many ways quite different. Neither could spoil enjoyment of the other.

P K Dicks works are full of interesting ideas and he is a master of pulling the "floor" away from you as you are reading which surprises and makes you question your perceptions. He wasn't half a clever barsteward :)

Finally got round to ordering it. 10p cheaper than when the deal was posted. 'mon the pound!

So I ordered this and it came in about 2 weeks, I noticed that on the website under customer images they are showing pictures of the "ultimate" collectors edition (briefcase version) so I thought why not email amazon and ask why I didn't get the suitcase version! So they respond and offer me a 20% discount so I take it. :)

Then I get home put in disk 1 which is supposed to be the Final cut but its not its the work-print version, so I email amazon again and complain about having the wrong disk etc.. so they offered me a full refund and no need of posting the item pack :)

So a quick mail to Warner Bros and they send me a replacements disk free of charge with no prof of purchase and I just got the whole complete collectors edition for free :gift: on blu-ray :-D

Voted HOT!!!!!!!!!
