Just received an email from Play.com announcing the pre-order of the Final Cut of Blade Runner on DVD for only £17.99. Now this may not be the limited edition briefcase edition but that sells on Amazon for nearly 80 dollars so for the 5 disc content this surely must be a bargain however it is packaged.
My first post here but a DVD I have been waiting a long time for so I hope it really is a good price...and not a misprint!

Wow 5 Discs, thats a hell of a lot of extras, voted hot. Ive seen the directors and original cut, not the "workprint version" though

Yup, check out the picture on that page. It looks like the full content of the briefcase edition with the booklets, prints and even the film frame. I am hoping this is not a misprint but I ordered one immediately just the same. Unfortunately Play do cancel order on a misprice. Not sure what the policy would be if they are simply misinformed i.e. you don't get all that in your package.

Somehow it just doesn't look like it would all fit in that box...:-(

Still, if it for real then a proper bargain!

I can't see anywhere on the page where it mentions the booklet / prints / etc, so I very much doubt it'll contain those.

True but then again Play are not renowned for their 'exhaustive' descriptions. I would be happy with the 5 DVD's worth of stuff for that price.
If you check out the content of the Briefcase set, it has models and a whole lot more so where did Play get their image from if it is not genuine? Or has someone been busy with Photoshop...

This from EzyDVD:
The Five-Disc Ultimate Edition includes everything from the 2-Disc Special Edition plus three additional versions of the film, as well as an "Enhancement Archive" bonus disc of enhanced content that includes 90 minutes of deleted footage and rare or never-before-seen items in featurettes and galleries that cover the film's amazing history, production teams, special effects, impact on society, promotional trailers, TV spots, and much more!

Only in the Ultimate Edition will you find the ultra-rare, near-legendary WORKPRINT version of the film, newly remastered.

The Blade Runner Ultimate Edition 5 Disc Set will be presented in either a Digipak or a unique, limited edition and stylish version of Rick Deckard's own Briefcase with additional supplementary material. Each Briefcase will be individually numbered and in limited supply.

Included exclusively in the Briefcase is a lenticular motion film clip from the original feature, miniature origami unicorn figurine, miniature replica spinner car, collector's photographs as well as a signed personal letter from Sir Ridley Scott!

Thanks for the deal, splinters, and for anyone wondering what a five disc edition adds to previous incarnations of blade runner on dvd: The clue is in the final cut moniker:

The theatrical version was that shown in cinemas circa 1982. The workprint was inadvertently presented as the theatrical version c. late 1980's and a limited run where it was promoted as a director's cut followed. In response to is reception, the 'director's cut' (as seen on dvd since the early days of the format) was produced , and given a wider international release. The latter was constrained by limited input from Ridley Scott (otherwise engaged with Thelma and Louise), who apparently produced a 'final cut' circa 2001, which has lingered in copyright limbo ever since.

So, this then is the director's final cut which may or may not add to the Blade Runner legacy. It seems to offer a 'new' version of the film, and perhaps one closer to the director's cut than the 'director's cut' was.

Hot deal? Yes, there's an awful lot of dvd for the money here :) and for the fans there's commentary and documentary from people who know and care what they're talking about. And who knows, for the fans of other sometimes obscure films there's always the chance that if this sells well enough other 'final cuts' will follow... (Just like the director's cuts did after Blade Runner, iirc)

Brilliant price. I wonder if they are selling two versions of the Ultimate Edition ie one with all the bits and one that just has the discs. Hmmmmm.

My gut instinct is that if they are calling it the Ultimate Edition then that is the one that comes with all the bits. Is there anything to compare it with yet in the UK, such as a site where we know it does come with the suitcase?

At £17.99 it's worth a shot, because as has been said, the 5 discs alone make this a ridiculously good price...unless of course they are actually selling the two disc set.

Warner UK said yesterday that they haven’t decided on the package yet. I suspect the Briefcase will not be available in the UK so you would need to import it.

They did confirm that all versions are set for December 3 release.

Did list this for HMV (including HD-DVD & BR), and noted play.com appeared just after the HMV pre-order in this thread:

That's for gadgets. For DVDs you only get 2% through Quidco, and 2.5% through TopCashBack. Still, better than nothing.

Hmmm...strange, cos the Quidco page still says 2%. Cool, I'll have to start going through Quidco then, if that's the case. Always went through TopCashBack for that extra .5%! :p

HMV Deal is BETTER!!!!!

Same price but get exclusive free keyring and quidco cash back is a better 10%

I prefer HMV for customer service compared to Play.com also as play.com have let me down badly through bad experiances on my two last pre-orders with them.
