Amazon US are now taking preorders for the Complete and Ultimate version of Blade Runner due for release 18 December. At the current exchange rate the price of the 5 disk HD DVD boxset comes in at around £17.50 delivered which is fantastic value. They also list the Ultimate version for approx £38 Delivered but the usual caveat re customs charges/VAT should be noted.

Both releases are available at the same price on either HD DVD (no region coding applies) or Blu-Ray (possible region coding).

Here are the specifications for the Blade Runner: Final Cut Five disc Ultimate Collector's Edition DVD. This will again feature the Final Cut film (just in case there was any doubt) and this is the version you'll see on HD-DVD and Blu-ray, presumably with HD audio and video.

Has anyone ordered from Amazon.com before?

I thought they wouldn't ship to the UK.

If they do, how long does delivery usually take?

There's no problem ordering DVDs from .com

Here's what the checkout screen looks like for the Ultimate Edition - approx £38 in today's money :)

From 2 April 2007 any package that attracts customs charges will also incur a Royal Mail handling fee of £8.

I've gone for the HD Ultimate Edition - Worst case scenario £50 ish.

I reckon that's a more than fair price for it and if I get it any cheaper, well then that's just a bonus :)

From .com's help pages

Restrictions

The following items can be shipped to almost all destinations outside the U.S.:

books*
DVDs
music
VHS videos

I've received my order confirmation with the international shipping charge stated.

whoo hoo thanks, ordered the Ultimate on Blu Ray

Voted cold ... whats the point of importing this when it wont play on your machine (in my case a PS3) Surely the region code for the BlueRay disc will be A/1 and UK PS3s can only play B/2 region coded BlueRay discs, cant they ???? :whistling:
... As for HD-DVD, as far as i am aware I think they are region free at the moment, although they are 'working' on setting up HD-DVD region coding in the future.
#19
Will the HD DVD's be region coded?

No, not as of yet, although they could be in the future. Keep a look out for future firmware 'updates'

I wish I could buy the HD version, but I don't have a credit card & I don't imagine you can use switch/maestro to purchase off amazon.com

Love the Police Spinner!

Fans are going to go nuts for the workprint edition. I've been waiting for years to get a decent transfer of my favorite Sci-flick of all time, the DVD Directors cut wasn't up to much, I've still have only my VHS widescreen edition to watch.

Hope we get a decent DVD edition eventually, I've been waiting for this definitive release since I got into DVD. BRmovie gave up reporting on 'BR SE' over a year ago, stuck in legal hell over ownership rights. There were some bad feelings getting in the way of any new releases for a while, apparently.

The main reason Sony have region coding on blue ray is to enforce you to buy the disc in your own country at an over inflated price! (profit)
However the sheer amount of USA blue ray titles that play on UK blue ray players is testament to the fact that there is no need for region coding at all!
The fact that hddvd does not have ANY region coding makes it more appealing to the world wide market and is actually used by the OFFICAL hddvd promo group in the states as a selling point!
Region coding will NOT ever come to hddvd, EVER!:p

Your wrong , they do , they have , they always will do . I ordered & received a Rush DVD from them & it arrived in 6 days from the good old USA , I suggest you get your facts right before posting obvious mistakes which might put people off ordering .

When you've ordered something from amazon.com, is there a chance that customs might charge more? If so, how much would customs charge and what is the chances of having your item having the extra charge put on it? Thanks for any help, I'm just confused about importing stuff:oops:

There WONT be any duty to pay from movietyme, they ship from within the UK!
They bulk ship to their UK offices then post them from within the UK, thus avoiding any charges!
Never had any charges with movietyme, always seem to ship a good 2 weeks before the usa street day too!

Has anybody seen any SD versions of this available for pre-order in the UK as yet? Saw it mentioned in a nice feature in Empire last month. The five discs contain all cuts of the film.
