Amazon US have the 5 disc HD DVD collection of blade runner for $27.95, including standard international shipping it works out at $34.43 which is about £16.72 in sterling, which is also under the £18 import tax threshold. The cheapest place i found the 2 disc collection is £17,99 at play.com, so it's a bit of a bargain! They do estimate that you should receive it between the 2nd and 8th of January 08' so a little bit of a wait, but still a bargain price.

Also available on Blu ray for the same price:

Sorry should haver said that both the HD DVD and Blu Ray are region free :o)

Great deal to OP

Blu Ray isnt region coded (though I believe some discs can be)

In this instance, Amazon clearly provide information if the disc is region coded or not under product details

I'd rather use the £5 off Play voucher and get the 2 disc set for £12.99.

I really can't understand these friggin complete collectors edition marketing cons.

No doubt they're gonna release the complete complete 25 disc edition next year.:whistling:

What £5 off Play voucher will that be then Ted ?

On HD-DVD/Blu-ray?

You really have no idea about what this set is about, so why bother posting at all?
#10
Very cheap. Shame I don't have HD yet. Ah well, normal DVD set it is.
#11
DVD Pacific have it for £15.31
http://www.dvdpacific.com/item.asp?ID=842548

I also keep an eye on the Movietyme blog rss feed because they test Blurays for region coding. Its now becoming the norm for them to have region coding.

I think he means the 2 disc Final Cut HD DVD which is £17.99

http://www.play.com/DVD/HD%20DVD/4-/3476937/Blade-Runner-Final-Cut/Product.html

But I think the 5-Disc set is a much better option, especially for the Workprint version of the filmwhich is supposed to be vastly different from the other cuts

Not really becoming norm, it depends on the Studio releaseing the disc and wheather or not its a new release or catalogue title.

All Warners have been region free to date, Sony and Disney older titles are genereally region free. Fox and MGM are the only people who code every release. Maybe as they have restarted releaseing titles it gives the impression it is the norm :)

Its only a fiver off a £50 spend - I dont think there are any other codes (apart from a possible 5% if this guy on here has some codes left)

Good stuff, was really wanting the 5 disc version. Getting them sent out to a friend in the US and he'll mail it to me as he's expecting some other hddvd's for me anyways.
#16
*Sigh* The first deal that makes me wish I had either a Blu Ray or HD DVD Player, with neither a clear winner on the horizon and me owning a Xbox 360, not wanting to buy a PS3 and also not wanting to gamble my money on a microsoft HD DVD drive then sadly the 5 disk DVD edition is going to have to suffice.

Voted hot for all the early adapters to either technology.

Bit more info on this Amazon offer covered HERE:)

Is this the same deal that was posted back in July...

http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=86164&highlight=blade+runner
#19
When going to the bluray link, it clearly states that the disks are Region 1.
US and Canada only.
Oh well, HD Dvd it is then.
#20
Voted Hot as its such a hot deal. I just paid £18 for this 5 disc box-set on dvd which I pre-ordered months ago. Bought all the HD stuff a month ago and now have had to order it on HD. It gets worse, asked the mother-in-law for the two disc version on HD for xmas!! i've gone a little Blade Runner crazy but it is such a fantastic film, I don't care, I never get tired of watching it!!
#21
Thanks for this deal.I've placed an order.I'm not really a sci-fi fan, but it would be rude not to at this price.....:santa:

Amazon often get region coding info wrong and Movietyme dont list items in the Region Free section until it is released and they have confirmed themselves that it is indeed region free.

Not saying it cant happen, but I would be very suprised if Warner decided to all of a sudden adopt region coding when no other Blu-ray they have released (and I think they have released more than any other studio!) has been region coded. :w00t:

Voted Hot.

The 5 Disc collector's edition is not being sold in the UK for HD-DVD as far as I know so to get it cheaper from the States cheaper than the 2 Disc UK version is excellent.

This will work on my EP35 as HD-DVD discs are not yet being region coded.

THIS IS THE BLU RAY VERSION I'M TALKING ABOUT

your suspicions might be right! its just that the info shads1973 posted looks to be officially taken form the amazon listing and that info has obviously been changed since last night and as of now there saying it's region 1 (why would they change this info maybe they were getting a lot of orders from the UK and checked with Warner Bros and they told them region1 (this is speculation though) also movietyme hasn't got it in its region free listings as yet.

so i am just letting folks know the score!
#26
the question is who wants to watch five different versions of the same film?

the question is who wants to watch five different versions of the same film?

I wouldnt think there is many, I would imagine most people buying this set have seen the Theatrical, Directors and International cuts a few times over the years.

This has the all new Final Cut version and the Workprint version which is what has alot of people interested as I believe the 5 disc is the only way to get both of them (legally of course :giggle: )

well you might have just sold me on it then :-P wheres me credit card

This site lists what is/isn't playable on Region B players: http://bluray.liesinc.net/
According to it, Blade Runner should be fine. Amazon, however, realise that they won't be able to fleece us if we can buy it for half the retail price from the US - or is that just a conspiracy theory? ;)
#32
well i tried to order it on amazon.com and it came back as $70 in a priority order AND it said i'd get it AFTER 25th dec .... so no chance on that ( unless someone says i'm doing it wrong )

You're doing it wrong.

Change the delivery option to the cheapest to get the $34 price.

Im guessing (might get show down again) the customs threshold is £18, so in theory at $34 it shouldn't get stung by customs

I suspect that with Amazon.com you may not be charged customs duties even if the total price exceeded theequivalent of £18 - I recently ordered a number of disks from Amazon.com and they were shipped via Amazon.de in Germany. As the discs were shipped from one part of the EU to another they do not incur duties and I wasn't charged any additional sums by dear old Royal Mail - of course it could be that they slipped throught the net!
