Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) prowls the steel-and-microchip jungle of 21st century Los Angeles. He's a "blade runner" stalking genetically made criminal replicants. His assignment: kill them. Their crime: wanting to be human.

The story of Blade Runner is familiar to countless fans. But few have seen it like this. Because this is director Ridley Scott's own vision of his sci-fi classic. This new version omits Deckard's voiceover narration, develops in slightly greater detail the romance between Deckard and Rachael (Sean Young) and removes the "uplifting" finale. The result is a heightened emotional impact: a great film, made greater. Most intriguing of all is a newly included unicorn vision that suggests Deckard may be a replicant. Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Is Deckard a replicant? As with all things in the future, you must discover the answer to find yourself

LOL!

I watched this as a 19 year old and thought it was boring

I watched the Final cut at 26 on Sky and thought it was the most amazing film i had ever seen

I then watched it on blu-ray a few days ago in anticipation of ME2 and my opinion of it didnt change

awesome film! the perfect companion for Mass effect 2 IMO!

Absolutely.

Also add in "the worst book to film conversion of all time".

This film was an insult to Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. In his defence Ridley Scott claims to have only based the film loosely on the book- but also admits he has never read the book! Phillip K Dick's novel was a fantastic allegory for a materialistic xenophobic society that is still relevant today plus it contained the perfect anti-hero in Rick Deckard. The film on the other hand was simple A-B action that had about as much depth as a puddle. Other mistakes included the book's ANDROID antagonist Roy Batty losing a T out of his surname to become Roy Baty (for seemingly no reason at all) and chickenhead J.R Isidore lost his surname completely and became J.R Sebastien (or it may have even been J.S Sebastien). In the film they also called androids replicants, again for no logical reason.

Ignoring all of these inconsistencies with the book, as a standalone film it is distinctly average. Massively over-rated. Avoid.

Great cult classic, ordered a copy

Spoken to alot of people about this film and so far I am the only person that likes the narration on the original film. Gave it a more film noir, gumshoe detective feel. Anyone with me on this or am I still alone?

Ha I was going to add "I don't want to sound like a pompous elitist...." but forgot to. I'm not the sort that bashes every book to film conversion. Just this one. Shawshank Redemption, Green Mile, Carrie etc are all great films even though they differ slightly from the source material. But I can't accept Blade Runner. One thing Scott did get right was the dystopian setting. Every cloud eh.

Nothing wrong with good old fashioned 'in the ring' action..
But seriously i do genuinely think this film is over rated. The storyline is boring, and im a huge sci fi fan.
Having said that i do think the price is cheap.. so voted hot

Thats for the 5 disc edition this edition apparently is not as good, it's been said that much of the video is quite soft.

Not a valid to reason to vote cold so... voted hot.

To dodoegg1, I enjoyed both the book and film - it's one of my favourite films actually. You complain about slight name changes and the use of the word replicant - such minor changes from the book and which do not make it a bad film. And as you said yourself, the film is only loosely based on the book. I hated The Green Mile but that doesn't mean it was a bad film, and it's no reason to tell people to avoid it (I wouldn't.) And yet our cinematic tastes do not matter because this is a hot deal i.e. a good price for this item :)

P.S. Baty gained a 't' but I'm glad to see you getting into the spirit by giving Philip an extra 'l' - just pulling ya leg ;)

i thought this was the directors final cut http://www.thedigitalbits.com/reviewshd/bladerunnerfinalallver01.html

As you'd expect, the film's editing has been massaged here and there, but this time to Scott's exact instructions. Like the 1992 version, this new Final Cut omits the Deckard narration and the happy ending. Scott has made subtle trims here and there to tighten the footage (without the narration, he felt that some shots went on a little too long), but he's also added material. For example, the "unicorn" scene is now a bit longer and more effective (it's actually the originally-intended version, the complete footage for which couldn't be found for use in the '92 cut). Footage from both the international and workprint versions has been inserted into the film as well, including a number of street/atmosphere shots (such as the infamous hockey-masked geisha dancers) and more intense moments of violence.

i dunno why they would recut it again saying so much effort has went into the final cut ordered this one never seen it before or any version so cant wait to see this
