The creators of the Guilty Gear series turn their hands to weapons-based combat in this 2D fighter on PC.
Developer Arc System Works has a strong pedigree of renowned Japanese beat-‘em-ups to its name, most notably the ever-popular Guilty Gear series. Seen by many as the spiritual successor to Guilty Gear, BlazBlue brings the developer’s over-the-top Japanese style to a new franchise. Mixing 3D backgrounds with more traditional 2D character models, BlazBlue instils its visual style with a striking gothic-anime look. A total of 12 unique hand-drawn characters are on offer in total.
Taking its cue from Guilty Gear once more, BlazBlue offers a flowing combat system that allows players to comfortably move between standard attacks and more powerful combos using the four-button control scheme. Each character also has their own unique special attack, known as a Distortion Drive, which triggers overwhelming attack patterns. Players can also jump online to fight against others in tournaments.
Taking its inspiration from one of the best 2D fighters on the market, BlazBlue gives players slick fighting mechanics alongside its striking anime visual style.
