#2

#3
Yeah just one store.

Popped in 5 mins ago, nothing good left really, didn't see anything that said it was all 1quid tho? Prices all over the place. Probably worth a look if your local and don't mind pre owned/ex rental.
#4
i got one where i live and there still open
#5
Any 360's for £1???
banned#6
probably all of it together isnt worth a quid, let alone per dvd (perhaps they still have some betamaxs in the back!)

Can anyone confirm that this is uk wide? Can't find anything online about them going out of business, plus I was in the one from Preston only yesterday and there was no hint of such amazing offers!

You want confirmation that the Cardiff closedown is nationwide? Nationwide in Cardiff?

Yes. Yes it is.

A previous post stated that this was nationwide, not just Cardiff, however I'm guessing you knew that already.

So please, can anyone confirm that Blockbuster is closing down across the UK

Thanks

As I said in the GAME thread - I had a feeling Game and Blockbuster would be closing down/administeration soon because of all the "bargains" they have been selling of late. I believe that Game/Blockbuster being the same group will all be closing down in the next 6 months - just a hunch and hope Im wrong but I have spent all my gift vouchers and game points just in case.

Blockbuster in the USA & Blockbuster in the UK are separate entities & the USA chain's problems has no effect on the UK/Europe operation (& vice versa). Downloading of films in the USA is a lot more popular than over here at the minute so bricks & mortar shops are having to diversify to survive.

Saying that, I did read somewhere recently where Blockbuster Europe was planning on closing 650 shops across Europe of which I presume this Cardiff store is one.

Game and Blockbuster have nothing to do with each other. The only business they've done together is when Blockbuster sold Gamestation to Game.

Hey Guys there was one tongue in cheek post that Blockbuster was closing down and that all stock including hardware/consoles was being sold off for a £.

It's just one store....
#26
I kinda think the idea of a rental place closing down sale is funny

ALL STOCK MUST GO!

and be back by 7pm tomorrow
#27
Said several months ago this place will not survive much longer and will be the next big name on the high street to disappear.

DVDs are so cheap to just buy now. Then you have lovefilm and on demand films at home.

What are people on about? This is one store closing down not all of them. Why does everybody think its all of them.
#30
Only one person thought it was all of them.
suspended#31
Haven't rented anything for years since I started torrenting. Waste of money.
#32
I expect they've been struggling a little for a few years now, but the t-mobile 5 for £5 deal will give them a boost in sales.

I've never thought to use blockbusters before, but have recently joined and used the £5 deal a few times now - good for watching the latest releases legally, with snacks included. Whats a fiver eh? Bargain.

I consider it a form of compensation for t-mobiles terrible signal quality.

I've been with t-mobile for about 10 years and never heard of this, and I'm a blockbuster member please share :)

The thing is in a few years you won't be able to download films off the internet. Newzbin closing down last week was one of several steps being taken to curb piracy and there are more to follow.
So movie rental will be booming again and Blockbuster may return to the high street !

I think they needed more ATM style dispensers. Those were a good way to rent a film in a hurry.
#38
Just been into my local and demanded a PS3 for £1!! They are liars, they denied that their store was closing, I said that i knew it was because it said so on here. After 4hours of argument I left the store but I asked for their names so that I can take them to court for holding back all the best stock.... who's with me?!?

The problem (or not as you may see it) is that as one shuts another one will open, alot of these sites are hosted in countries that couldnt care less about piracy as long as they are making some cash. Also the rise in streaming websites and the advances in broadband speed will see more streaming sites popping up. Also internet TV's etc will also lead to more media content being streamed from the internet though both legal and illegal sources. So i dont think your prediction will be coming true anytime soon.

Why if only one store is closing down would they sell all stock for a pound, confused but they wouldn't move stock?
