Blockbuster - PS3 Game trade in tips - Make £8/9

Went into my local blockbusters and got got a few tips for you PS3 owners, or anyone looking to get a few extra quid off anything instore!

At the moment you can get the ace Oblivion on PS3 for 9.99 when you trade in ANY PS3 game,

Yes, Genji, NHL, NBA etc that you can get easily for £17!!! hence making it only £27 for Oblivion. I myself did this off by trading in NHL. Other stores like game aren't accepting these titles in their offers.

You can also get £30 off ANY PS3 game from trading in any of the above, which puts most of them down to 9.99 anyway.

EVEN BETTER.. if you dont have a PS3 or dont want another PS3 game then ALL PS3 games at the moment have £26 trade in value! so if you took in nhl, genji and nba, which cost me £53, you will get £78 worth of trade on anything instore.

I'd recommend checking with your local store first but i found all this out on saturday, i did the Oblivion offer with NHL and traded NBA in for £26 credit.

Nice one, heat and rep added. Might take em up on this (got a couple of crap games lying around gathering dust including NHL). shame there is nothing I want to buy on the PS3 at the moment. Would buy Oblivion, but I played it January last year on my 360.

Anything else up and coming that does look interesting, I'd rather buy on the 360. I take it I can buy 360/Wii games with my credit?

Thanks,

It is worth noting that blockbusters do some decent 4 for £20 deals, that could be worth spending that credit on,

My local had a few buzz games, Half life 2 on xbox, a few DS/gba games, and some semi decent psp games

Sorry missed the last part,

yes the £26 is instore credit so wii, 360, dvds, preowned etc etc, interestingly enough they do the cheapest high st blu-ray aswell

kungfu hussle and layer cake i saw at 12.99 (both multi region) so thats potential 2 bluray films for the price of say NHL, £17.49!!! bargain!

i did this a few weeks ago, and got £30 for it where as gamestation only offered me £12!

but one week on form when i tradded it in, they started to rent PS3 games out too, but the only games they hadto rent were NHL 07 and NBA 07! would have thought they would have stopped taking those game by now.

Gamestation are offering £18 cash or £26 trade in for NHL 2K7 at the moment.

Love the avatar Dan!

Random comment --f1 ps3 £24.99 on gamestation.co.uk

yeah that offer is instore, along with ridge racer

hard to find tho i went into 2 stores over the weekend and only one had either which was F1, which sadly isn't 2 player

Good advice. Rep and heat added.

Gamestation are terrible for trading in. I took 50 PS2 Games after buying my PS3 and they only offered me £77 for the lot. Some games they only offered 10p :?
#9
...you wanna try trading in at GAME then! Worst thing is GAME have bought out Gamestation. Bad news IMO.
#10
yeah i'm confused by this buyout...

didnt blockbuster aquire gamestation a year back? hence all the samish deals and preowned stock? so does this mean game have bought both companys or bought gamestation from blockbuster?

bad news either way, deals in game are very rare!

at the moment they have trade in any PS3 gameand get £28 off, except genji nhl etc... only prob is EVERY game in my local one was priced at £49.99!!!

Yeah - when I took my game to gamestation and said "blockbuster offered me xxx" they said "well thats not possible as we are the same company..." and refused to call them to find out and beat the deal :(

Also worth noting it was a Wii game which I got more for than Gamestation or CEX were offering! :)

Do Blockbuster not sell consoles as well?

As this would mean surely, you could buy 8 ps3 titles for £17 (£136), trade them in for £208 worth of credit, and buy an xbox360 core for £136 ish?

Just a thought...
#13
yeah they sure do,

a ps3 is 399 with HDMI cable, which is say 16 titles, so about £272!!! i dont have the balls to do something like that tho

they give you a little 'trade' membership card and credit your account. so i dont believe you'd have to take 16 titles in at one time.

You could do this more easily by buying a core system from Boots:

http://www.boots.com/shop/product_details.jsp?productid=1068111&classificationid=1025901

The core is £150 just now, but when you take off Boots points and quidco (and I'm sure there may be other online vouchers but I can't be bother checking right now), you get £6 Boots Advantage Card points and £5.25 quidco, which brings the overall total to £138.75. A little bit more expensive, but it means you don't even have to leave the house.

Which is always a bonus!

EDIT: There's a bonus £7.50 in Advantage Card points voucher, which brings the overall price down to £131.25...Nice!

It was just an example, as jonbinns pointed out it would also mean you could buy a brand new PS3 for £272 !

If you had the balls that is... ;)

FYI this is still on... Just traded in Genji and NBA 2k7 for £52 store credit... Now to find something to spend this on...
Anyone know if store credit is transferrable between stores? I've been thinking about trying to track down a Blockbuster which still has Guitar Hero 2 in stock.
#17
yeah sure is still on :0) i just did a few more yesterday! i was just about to post about guitar hero 2... its only 59.99 instore, so it works out a crazy £42/43 (2 games £17ish plus £8)
#18
choicesuk have NBA 2k7 for £15 ;-)
BB's can order stock in.....you can get them to look for second hand stuff in at other stores and have it delivered to the store with your account
#19
I bought 24 NHL PS3 games from choices for £17.10 after quidco, took them into game and traded 17 of them in for £25 instore credit which got me a ps3 for £290, i then traded the other 7 in for a Wii which cost me £125 (actually less because i used my game loyalty card which had about £30 on it). Cheeky i know but the manager in game didnt have a problem with it.

Is this still on ? - my local BB is the other side of the city and I don't want to go out there for nothing!
