It got pretty good reviews at the time anyway - 7/8-ish. Which is good for a non AAA minority interest game.

In any case, I picked this up a while ago when it was last on sale. Not yet played it, but looking forward to playing it. Might pick up the teams DLC which is also on sale today.

If it's not too long an answer, how has it improved? The main gripe that I've seen is that it feels too dependent on luck. Has that improved, if indeed it was actually a problem?

it's based on a board game. so surely luck needs to be a massive part of the game?

It's not based on luck... It's based on tactics and INFLUENCED by luck.

It's hugely unlikely that a dwarf player using a well regarded tactic will lose because all his players die to poor dice rolls, for example. Conversely, if a wood elf player decides to outfight a chaos team, then it won't be poor dice that loses the game, it will be the sheer volume of unfavorable rolls and modifiers.

It's a really, really good game. If anyone wants to play then hit me up a PM and I'll be happy to share my tag and provide some beginners advice over a game.

Does this game have a 'manager mode'? One where you can manage a team through a season and skip through the matches themselves? I like the idea of doing that, and I didn't get on well with the game play in Blood Bowl 1. I still have my tabletop game from 25 years ago and prefer that to Blood Bowl 1.

It's a part of the game, but should not be a 'massive' part of it. as Kileak has explained, it's a tactical game whereby you're effectively working to ensure that the odds are in your favour. As such, whilst luck is a part of the game, you shouldn't need to be 'lucky' in order to win generally speaking (obviously luck will cause the odd upset; it always does). One of the main complaints that I've seen is that this game just feels too random. Or in other words, things that you may do to change the odds don't feel like they have a notable impact. To my mind that could be a fairly notable issue, that incidentally wasn't present in the first game, hence the question.
