Personally i'd go for one of the other posted deals from RS, Best Buy or Amazon for a decent brand name player instead. I know it's nearly double the price but if I was spending £50 anyway i'd pony up the another £50 and go for the Sony player instead.

Still for those on a super tight budget good deal

If anyone were on a super tight budget, how would they afford to put blue ray disks in it?

It'll still play DVD's and there are budget Blu-ray discs out there! But I imagine that's a difficult concept for the easily confused!

Anyone know if this is region free bluray or hackable?

It looks like the Foehn & Hirsch BD2101 that Ebuyer were selling at the start of the year.

If it is and depending on firmware it maybe hackable for DVD and Blu Ray.

And will play divx and MKV, but only has fat 32 so has a 4 gig file size limit on play back. . .

Hmm Technika, You'd be better spending a little more on a decent brand.

I did find reference in a previous thread that it plays divx. I'm tempted to buy this as I need to replace my dvd player as it's just broken. I don't have any bluerays yet. But I'm kind of thinking if I'm going to spend £30 on a new dvd, I might as well go £50 for this for a bit of future proofing.

You might want to try the multi region hack from the H&F to see if it's got the same firmware.

With no disc in the tray & tray closed - enter 9735XY (nothing will show on screen).

X is the DVD region code and can be 0 to 6 (0 for region free dvd)
Y is for Blu Ray and can be 1=A, 2=B. There are some reports that 0 will give region free, but that's not supported in the spec.

So if you enter 973501, it should be region free for DVD and able to play region A Blu ray...

Good luck. . .

my Tesco has these at £59.99 what is it meant to be £49.99 :S confuseing indeed.

Has anyone tried the region hack from steve1221 above? Does it work? If so, I'll probs pick one up myself!

Cheers all.

My Harmony 300 dosen't have a listing for this blu ray, but the Insignia NS-2BRDVD works it, so I think it's a clone. This might help those looking for a way to hack it.

I found a code that works for the Technika BRSS10

Open the tray
Press "set-up"
Enter 9113
A pop -u p menu will appear on the left hand side of the screen with "configure player"
You can set it to any region or region free from here.

You are a star buddy. That works perfectly. I spent hours looking for a code the other to no avail so you are my saviour!

I do wonder tho, if there is a limit to how many times you can change the BD region as there was no option for region free on that one...
#23
I second that philgreen1 is a star!

Made a bargain BD player even more of a bargain - thanks mate!

Those looking for a multiregion hack for this, try this:

Switch on
open tray
press "set-up" on remote
enter 9113

An additional configure menu will come up on the left hand side of the screen that allows you to change the dvd region to any or region free. Below that it lets you set the Bluray region to A, B or C.

This has come from Spyro on the AVForums. It has worked for really well. Great peice of kit for the £50 price tag!
