This is a very sexy lens, however it won't give sharper images than the standard lens. in fact, its actually a little soft on the edges.
Some one mentioned it's good for video. As a keen Filmer, I disagree as this lens doesn't have image stabilisation and tracking subjects with a high aperture can be difficult.
If you have £70 to spend and want to explore photography, this is a great second lens to buy :)

Agreed - Not the best lens for video - the focus ring on the front is nigh on impossible to focus accurately (because it's so sensitive, and small!) - then if you want to use autofocus, no USM makes this a noisy little thing which gets picked up by the mic. If you want a prime for video, check out the 40mm Pancake.

Think QC may be an issue too with this lens. (no sharper than the std kit lens 12-55mm shouldn't be the case)
