Went to Halfords to get a replacement inner tube for my Boardman MX bike. The only one close to the size I needed was the Continental brand priced at £6.99. About to walk to the till with one when I glimpsed several of these Boardman branded inner tubes which were the correct size but had no price labeled. They rang up on the till at £1 so I purchased several. Seemed like a good deal to me.

Great price. I see what the (only) reviewer, who gave it 2 stars means though: it's odd that the stem isn't threaded so that you can secure it with a nut like other presta tubes.

It does seem a little odd but I have seen a few damaged rims due to people over tightening that little nut.

No, that's GOOD. Unthreaded valve stems don't chew up the inside of your pump head. The nut is only of use for noobs to secure the tube in place during installation and if you do it too tightly it can pinch the tube. After installation, you can discard it. If you leave it on and ride on a flat the valve often snaps and can cause rim damage where it's bolted.

Given the choice - smooth valves, no nuts and no valve caps either as they're redundant also.

+1 on the valve caps. Got to keep the weight down ;)

first thing I do is take the thread off of the stem. it is pointless and a nightmare in winter when it is frozen up

Been this price for months, bought a few recently, as others have said the presta valve isn't threaded not a major problem, not had chance to use them yet, as tubeless been going ok

Struggling with what all the number on the inner tubes mean. Are these for mountain bikes only?
