I love the idea of getting fit at home to save money on going to the gym and having to use their sweaty, bacteria laden machines. So i've been looking at getting one of these to accompany my set of dumbbells.

Found this on Amazon for only £8.99! (FREE delivery with order over £10) I know the JML one has been posted on here before, but just wondered how this one stacks up against the JML one?

From £29.99 to £8.99 seems like a strong discount.

These actually work really well - I had one for Xmas and am surprised at how good it is for a tenner. Although it could come off the door frame in theory, it's unlikely due to way they are constructed to use your weight to lock them in place. There's adequate foam protection on the other areas of the bar to prevent damage to the sides of the door frame. Very easy to construct (5mins) and takes 10 seconds to put it in place (and to remove it after use).

really good for conditioning.

BUT, be aware that the pressure it exerts above the door frame can crack/damage the plaster work if you do not use on a solid wall. I had to remove and repair above the door I had been using a couple of years ago.

cold just because of the ridiculous rrp, makes it look like a bargain

Still a good price, you don't see them cheaper than this. I paid £12 last year.

Word of warning, the end handles that press into the door frame make a mark so I just wrapped a cloth around each side and all is OK.

I also cracked one of my top door frames so moved to another one which seems a lot stronger and has been OK for the past few months.

I spit bars and I go hard.

if you have a decent sized doorway get a fixed one for a similar price. These are OK of you want portability but will fall off either with you falling, or when somebody closes the door.
Won't make you lean but will increase strength in biceps and chest.

To save time and hassle, upon purchasing the Body Sculpture Body Gym Total Upper Body Workout Bar, simply toss it in the loft where it will say until you either move house or die.

ive found this useful. like any exercise equipment or gym membership, it only works if you use it.... =)

would recommend these programmes to go with this:

http://www.hundredpushups.com/

ive never been able to fully complete them myself, but gotten about 70-80% through, and could def see a difference in muscle mass+definition.

You can get a great wide, defined back purely through wide grip pull ups too

Seriously, do you know what you are talking about?

You have never purchased one of these have you? Come on be honest!

.....you falling, or when somebody closes the door.
....sorry but that is just impossible, it can not happen.

Also building your biceps and chest. Chest? Yeah maybe a little to tighten it up a bit, but since when were pull-ups about the chest? Biceps I can understand as you can do a lot but one of the main reasons you do pull ups is to define your back muscles.

Just watch out as mine has left a black mark on the wall above the door frame

Nice one, ordered. £11 but saves me from faffing around for a filler item!

"sweaty, bacteria laden machines"

Sweat kills bacteria.

Nails are always loose on my home walls(makes a hollow sound as well) .........so is this suitable to use on such walls above the door ?

User error, I don't see how if fitted correctly that these could come off? Unless of course your frame collapses. :(

Give it a go, I have it on a plaster board wall and it is OK, my first door frame generated a crack after a few days use so I moved to another door, this frame is much stronger and has been fine for a long time now.

It does not really put much stress on the wall, it is all down to your door frame. Just get your fingers above your frame and give it a good pull and see how it feels. You should not be getting any movement, if you do then try another frame.
