Not as good as the one before christmas but still excellent. The breakfast was huge and for what was efectively 3.75 each well worth it. Las tdeal had 6 JP Chenet free but its an ok wine.

Hot from me.

Any cheap places for fags when crossed over. I know it a bad habit, but so is giving nearly £6 to shops which gov gets most of.

we drive to Belgium as the French Tax went up a lot last year. The fags prices on the boat are more or less the same as all the shops in Calais, I think the French have rules about retail prices that keep them all the same.
I changed to rolling tobacco years ago.

TOBACCO imports for personal use - 3,200 cigarettes, 200 cigars, 400 cigarillos, 3 Kg smoking tobacco (British citizens only).

February 2011 - Golden Virginia is now £4.40 in Belgium (4.90 euro). The same pack costs £12.75 in the U.K. http://www.day-tripper.net/prices-tobacco.html

Now you know how we feel about all the home bargains deals posted on here, they are only available up north !! :p
At least you are further away from the French than us

What is it that you can do for the few hours you have? Can you go anywhere nice around there? Not interested in shopping really. It cannot be cheaper than hotdeals.
#13
shopping except for fags/wine is a waste of time lately as dearer than UK. Some lovely beaches/national parks/canals/ scenery around there - we take picnic, flasks etc and drive around until we find a place we want to stop. There are also loads of museums etc, went to a war bunker one once.

I am planning a channel crossing in April and as I've never done that before, I would be grateful if someone could advise.

I need to cross to France on 15/04 and cross back on 02/05. Can I use this offer booking 2 different day returns?

Thanks

No - they check the car reg to stop you doing that. If you don't return that night you weren't a day tripper. Some one was going to try it with prepay cards as a foot passenger ... never heard of them since. oO

Thanks for your reply. So if you don't return what do they do? Charge your card a higher price?

vi) All bookings of Restricted Duration are only valid where the outward and return journeys are completed within the specified period of time, with the same vehicle and passengers and using the same operator. If you fail to travel on one part of your booking then we may charge you a supplement. That supplement will be the difference between the amount you have paid and the price for the standard single fare appropriate to the sailing used. This payment will be collected using the credit card details provided when paying for the original booking.

I see... Thanks

I don't see why they are bothered with people using the return or not.

what for 9 people? /\

9 People in your average 5 seat car !!! good luck with that one & try keeping 9 people happy on a quick flit for a few hours in Calais !! They would be throwing each other overboard on the ferry on the way back !!

Nice day out for those in South East - but if its going for beaches views - got better where I am.

If cheap deals arrive for a 2/3 day deal return ticket - great for a mini-break & if you can link to a travelodge £10 deal as well near Dover area - its a good un !!

just saw this on MSE
Dover-Calais £19 car day return + wine
OR £1 foot passenger return + wine
P&O has a great deal for booze cruise fans. For £19, you get a Dover-Calais day return for a car and passengers plus a free bottle of wine. Or you can travel by foot for £1 return.
•What does it include? £19 buys you a day trip to France for a car and up to nine passengers (worth c.£35), or for £1 you can travel by foot. Plus, for both deals you get a free bottle of JP Chenet red or white wine worth about £4.

•When can I go? The offer's valid for day trips up to Thurs 26 May and you must book before Weds 4 May. For car journeys it's £6 extra for Sat travel and for foot passengers it's £5 extra for Fri or Sat travel and you must return before 9:40pm on the same day.

The following dates are excluded from the offer: 8, 9, 15, 16, 22, 23, 30 April and 1, 2 May 2011.

•How do I get it? Book online via the Daily Mail promotions page.

The wine voucher will be given to you at the port when you check in and you must collect the bottle on your outward journey. You can't amend or refund your booking.

also saw
You can travel as foot passenger from Dover to Calais, departing Monday to Thursday and returning back the same day for an unbelievable £2 per person*. You can also travel at weekends, for a small supplement. You've got until the 7th May to book, and until the 8th May to travel.
Once you arrive, a regular bus service running to and from the ferry terminal means you can spend the day sampling French culture, exploring the local markets and boutiques in Calais town centre, or relaxing on the beautiful beach.
