Needles to say, I had the last laugh.
I think they need to put Alan back in his box for a few years. I thought the recent series of Mid-Morning Matters wasn't great, and Scissored Isle was pretty forgettable (although Alan on drugs wearing his vest was pretty funny). Still a great character, but best in small doses.

We used lots of books like these to help coach our daughter last year. Still time I guess as the next exams will be in September but obviously far too late to apply now. Shame I forgot to Ebay her books!
Well worth it - we spent about £200 on 11+ books, many hundreds of hours coaching her (I did English, her mother Maths) and she finished in the top 15 out of 400 entrants.
So cost us £200 & she's getting a £150,000 education for free! Plus will earn loads more than if she didn't win a grammar school place!
So which ones would you recommend from your experience?
Thanks in advance

The CGP publications are very well put together & reasonably priced.

Tip: establish what your son/daughter will be tested on in the exam. Each school decides its own exam format. So (for example) my daughter was only tested on Maths & English - but not verbal/ non-verbal reasoning.

Its always called 11+ but you sit the exam when you are 10. Having used GCSE books as well both sets of books are very similar. Think we dont need any more maths for next two years after doing the 11+.

naomipunkclan
Seems unduly harsh that 11 year olds are being put under exam pressure like this. I only used this kind of resources after around 15 years for exam preparation

Well you need to do 11+ exams to get into Heckmondwike Grammar School. One of the best schools in Yorkshire

Killing Joke is a great read, although it's worth noting that the new hardback editions use a new colour scheme that alters the feel of the book quite a bit - it's subtler, with monochrome sections and far less of the neon brightness of the original.
It's artist Brian Bolland's preferred colouring, but I have to say I favour the garish original.
Oh, and they also removed the yellow oval from the Bat-costume...
I was interested to read about the spotlighting aspect of this decision :
"The Deluxe Editon has Brian Bolland himself did the remastering of the colour. It's said in the Introduction by Tim Sale (yes, the artist himself for the TV series HEROES), that "Bolland's colors are characteristically thoughtful and restrained."
But what I like most is how the flashback sequences have Bolland "washes out all color in each one...but chooses to spotlight an object in each in increasingly shades of red, all leading up to...the Red Hood"http://anonymousxwrites.blogspot.co.uk/2010/01/batman-killing-joke-deluxe-edition.html
Yeah, both approaches have their merits. It's one of those cases where I think there's an argument for reading/owning both copies.
I must admit, I prefer the colourful version from the pics I've seen, but I'm thinking of buying this as a present for a hardcore fan so I'm not sure whether to get that, or the one that's true the artists vision.. decisions decisions.. :D
I'd get this one, the original is a little harder to come by unless you buy it as part of a larger Alan Moore collection - plus this deluxe version also includes a separate short story by Bolland, 'An Innocent Guy', which is a fun little extra that's not in the original version.

Board games sadly get the short end of the stick on HUKD from my experience. Apparently £35 for the latest CoD can be a great deal but £20 for a board game isn't worth it (even if it normally costs double that) because "it's just a load of cardboard and plastic".
Sucks really, I would definitely have been interested in this one but it flew under my radar until it was too late; I only found it now by specifically search for "board games" and trawling through the results.
It's back in stock now at the same price if you're still interested in buying.

Much appreciated, thanks!
