Boots Corporation Tax bill - far, far better than half price. 90% off in fact - just by moving it from the UK to Switzerland.

They pay a fraction of the Corporation Tax they used to pay so you pay more. Government cuts? Blame companies like Boots for avoiding their fair share of tax.

Yes to all three - plenty of alternatives. You can add Nestle to the list, too. (_;)

Are you saying, if you had the opportunity to cut your tax bill you wouldn't?
#15
perfectly legal to arrange your affairs to minimise your tax bill.
#16
it's only half price cos they double it to start with!

when any public company which seeks and gains a listing on a stock exchange, it is liable to takeover. Manchester united fans for this reason have no right to be disgruntled that an american has bought them..

As in the same way if cocacola was bought out by a company based in luxemburg it would stop paying tax in its old home market the usa.

Unfortunately tax avoidance is legal, the uk sets its own laws
tax evasion is a completely different matter

boots is also a vat tax collector in that it will pay over its 17.5% to the coffers.

anyway boots got a great deal on givenchy play intense £26, was £36 in debenhams and 39 in HOF..

look at debenhams private equity took over and piled on huge corporate borrowings and now look at them struggling to pay interest, nearly collapsed last year

Newbold why don't we just get the government to monopolise all uk based assets and then all these foreign owned companies would become property of the state, I'm sure labour (and the conservatives for that matter) can then sell them off to create much needed income, or even raise debt of the back of them

Exactly!

They're now selling stuff at the price it should have been before Christmas!

That's not good business - it's blatant profiteering... :-(
(or should that be racketeering...)

Not all prices are inflated. I got a scalextric set for £25 which is selling for £50 on the scalextric website.

Spent £15.50 but bought nothing in the sale - still, as the £5 off £20 parenting code is still working I got everything for my hospital bag, much easier (for me, 6 months gone!) and far cheaper than going into the store at sale time. So if you ARE shopping in the sale don't forget the code!! :)
#22
went in store all crap tatt.

It was delayed by a week last year due to poor sales at the 50% sale due to snow.

#38
I rang Boots head office this morning and asked if the 75% off sale was due to start today and she said they may not reduce them any further this year (!) - she was a little vague as I said who makes this decision and she said someone in head office but staff dont get to find out???

Wonder how the previous dates were confirmed - who has this info oO
#39
starting shortly perhaps
