Money don't grow on trees...

Great game for a great price. Make sure you install the patch take a look at the Borderlands wiki for the PC tweaks. They make a big difference, especially the FOV (Field of View) tweak. The default setting is too 'zoomed in' which is fine for consoles but for the PC, it looks weird and is likely to induce nausea.

I'm a Lvl 39 Siren just starting my 2nd Playthrough. This game is so damn addictive! :thumbsup:

OMG i am glad you said that, I better check it out. I actually threw up after playing last night, and I thought it was maybe just me.

Lol, not just you dude... well maybe the 'actually throwing up' part. :-D I nearly threw up after playing this for 30 minutes the first time and after doing the tweak, everything's so much better! Sadly, I notice this happening more and more with console ports where the default FOV is just too low for us PC gamers.

I found how to do the tweak but I've never messed with a game code like that before, so going to wait for the OH to help :) Thanks for letting me know about this!Repping!

No problem, glad I could help!

Also, you might wanna check out this little utility from someone on the Gearbox forums. It's quite a handy tool which provides graphical way of making the tweaks. However, I had some trouble with it on Windows 7 so I did my tweaks manually.

Unfortunately, I can't check the link as I'm at work but I'm pretty sure that's the right address. :thumbsup:

Given the choice i'd much prefer the PC version, had enough of playing with console gamers (just don't tell them I said that :-D).
Alas my X1600 is not going to give impressive results. If only this post-launch demo would show up I could make a judgement call.

Are there any other problems with Windows 7?
Has anybody tried it?

No problems here and I'm on Windows 7 64bit too. The only problem I had was with that third-party utility I mentioned earlier but that's probably just me and nothing to do with the game itself.

I've been quite shocked by the compatibility of Windows 7, every XP application and game I have thrown at it has worked fine - Though I could just be lucky with my choices.
#10
I had some issues on Windows 7 but the problem was really caused by installing the game to a non-standard path - Save games would not be created and settings changes the same - so my tip is to just accept the defaults

Been looking at this and fancied a blast so for £16 its worth a punt

Aw man, i'm glad you said about the 'too zoomed in' thing. I couldn't play Turok on the 360 cos it had the same problem, made me sick. I'll give it a miss till its fixed then.

If you're familiar with code and tweaking, Borderlands uses the Unreal engine ie anyone who's tweaked Unreal Tournament/Turok/GOW etc will probably be able to find their way around the settings configuration file (you can just open it up in Notepad, make the changes and save it before your next play for them to become active).

Here's everything you'll need (TLDR - unless you are planning to make the changes!)

Here's a few tweaks I've come across and found that might help people with 'deconsolizing' Borderlands. I'm going to assume you all know where the location of these INI files are (Usually in USER NAME\Documents\My Games\Borderlands\WillowGame\Config in Vista).

To disable the startup movies:
-----------------------------
Within WillowEngine.ini:

Find:
[FullScreenMovie]
StartupMovies=2K_logo
StartupMovies=Gearbox_logo
StartupMovies=NVidia
StartupMovies=Loading
SkippableMovies=2K_logo
SkippableMovies=Gearbox_logo
SkippableMovies=Attract
SkippableMovies=NVidia

and comment out lines like so:

[FullScreenMovie]
//StartupMovies=2K_logo
//StartupMovies=Gearbox_logo
//StartupMovies=NVidia
//StartupMovies=Loading
//SkippableMovies=2K_logo
//SkippableMovies=Gearbox_logo
//SkippableMovies=Attract
//SkippableMovies=NVidia

If that doesn't work, replace the // with ;

To adjust FOV (Field of View):
-----------------------------
Within WillowInput.ini:
Below the chunk of bindings on the first section/paragraph, add the following:

Bindings=(Name="F10",Command="FOV 90",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False)
Bindings=(Name="F11",Command="FOV 110",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False)

You can change the keys (F10 and F11) to whatever you'd like, as well as the FOV values.

To disable mouse smoothing:
----------------------------
Within WillowInput.ini:
Search for "bEnableMouseSmoothing" and you should come across the following line:

bEnableMouseSmoothing=True

Change to FALSE. This tremendously improves the feel of the mouse when looking around in-game and navigating the UI.

To disable/adjust weapon view bob:
----------------------------------
Within WillowGame.ini:
Search for "bWeaponBob" and you should come across the following lines:

bWeaponBob=TRUE
Bob=0.005

They should be pretty self explanatory. I can confirm the Bob numerical adjustment does work.

To enable VSync:
-----------------
Within WillowEngine.ini:
Search for "UseVsync" and you should come across the following line:

UseVsync=False

Change to TRUE.

To disable voice chat:
---------------------
Within WillowEngine.ini:
Search for "bHasVoiceEnabled" and you should come across the following line:

bHasVoiceEnabled=True

Change to FALSE.

To enable console:
------------------
*NOTE: This currently doesn't work correctly, it outputs all commands as 'SAY' commands*

Within WillowInput.ini:
Search for "ConsoleKey" and you should come across the following line:

ConsoleKey=

Add 'Tilde' after the equal sign to enable the console (should look like ConsoleKey=Tilde)

Enable Drop Weapon Key:
-------------------------
Within WillowInput.ini:
Search for "WillowGame.WillowPlayerInput". Within that section, search for "ThrowWeapon". By default, it's bound to "Underscore" - I changed mine to V, so it looks like:

Bindings=(Name="V",Command="ThrowWeapon",Control=F alse,Shift=False,Alt=False)

To make zoom a toggle (courtesy of Miker):
--------------------------------------------------
Within WillowInput.ini:

Add the text below under [WillowGame.WillowPlayerInput]

Bindings=(Name="ZoomIn",Command="StartAltFire | setbind RightMouseButton ZoomOut",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False,LeftT rigger=False,RightTrigger=False,bIgnoreCtrl=False, bIgnoreShift=False,bIgnoreAlt=False)
Bindings=(Name="ZoomOut",Command="StopAltFire | setbind RightMouseButton ZoomIn",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False,LeftTr igger=False,RightTrigger=False,bIgnoreCtrl=False,b IgnoreShift=False,bIgnoreAlt=False)

Then, edit the preexisting RightMouseButton binding to reflect the change:

Bindings=(Name="RightMouseButton",Command="advance dbutton bAdvancedButtonAux5",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt =False,LeftTrigger= False,RightTrigger=False,bIgnoreCtrl=False,bIgnore Shift=False,bIgnoreAlt=False)

to

Bindings=(Name="RightMouseButton",Command="ZoomIn" ,Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False,LeftTrigger= False,RightTrigger=False,bIgnoreCtrl=False,bIgnore Shift=False,bIgnoreAlt=False)

To enable scroll wheel in text boxes:
-----------------------------------
Within WillowInput.ini

Search for all instances of the following (there should only be two instances):

InputKeyName="MouseScrollUp",ModifierKeyFlags=42
InputKeyName="MouseScrollDown",ModifierKeyFlags=42

remove the ",ModifierKeyFlags=42" so they look like:

InputKeyName="MouseScrollUp"
InputKeyName="MouseScrollDown"

With regards to co-op play, is there a matchmaking feature or do you play with friends that you invite to your game?
#19
The online part uses Gamespy. You create an account and then you can add/invite your friends and play that way. Alternatively, you just jump into any game that's available at that time. There's no matchmaking and to be honest it's not really needed.

The co-op part works best if everyone in your party is around the same level so that everyone can contribute. Otherwise, the lower-leveled characters will be pretty much useless against the enemies.
#20
Heat added! Great price for one of the best games this year!
#21
When playing online you may need to port-forward if you are hosting the co-op session.

Good price.

Is this FOV problem evident with Farcry 2?

With Farcry 2 I started getting headaches and feeling sick.... think it was from all the screen movement when running around all over the map. Would love to play Farcry 2 again as hardly started the game when I gave up from the headaches.

Wondering if anyone knows how to solve this?

Also is this a simular problem with the Boderlands game?

If so I will give it a miss.
#23
I posted a link to the Borderlands wiki earlier which has tweaks to fix the FOV. Here's the link again.

Borderlands Wiki

The default FOV is bit too low but can be fixed easily with the tweak.

24.99 now... :x

Owch that price went up kick. Even a second retailer who matched cheapest price has bumped their prices up too.

Cheapest now is Blockbuster for £19.99
