I have the detector, it's a little erratic. I find placing your left hand on the wall a few feet away from where you are detecting helps it's accuracy.

Erratic?

I bought one and it was complete chuff!

The laser measure which I also have is excellent though - I paid £15 for it though

If going the detector route, might be worth going for the "pro" stuff. This version seems quite highly rated, proving good accuracy (once limits are understood and directions read carefully).

Costs the same as this bundle but the extra accuracy and more detailed display may be crucial. Not sure, haven't tested either model yet but have tried a crappy Stanley one from my local hardware store and it was bad, beeping at everything. Gonna pull the trigger on this model and a few other bits tonight.

Laser measure should be much more reliable at "consumer" level, up to 15m. Most of us don't have front rooms 15m plus :) Maybe a gigantic home cinema room DIYer might require the up to 40m the "pro" measure advertises, or indeed builders.

All in all, this pack is a decent saving IMO, but the detector might leave you wanting for more.
+heat, thanks OP.

Like I said, was erratic until I put my hand nearby then it became quite a bit more accurate. Still wouldn't be 100% happy to rely on it, but it did help me avoid some electric cables in a plaster wall that I didn't expect to find (diagonal as well FFS!). I'd want a demo of the pro version before I risked any money though.

As for the laser measurers, love them. Not sure you need the expensive ones though, my cheap one from China seems just as accurate. The laser levelling thing (quigo?) is excellent though, saved me loads of time!

If you're not in a rush it's best to buy these individually from Amazon as the price frequently drops well below £30 for each one. Picked mine up for £41.98 for both.

Got the PLR 15 and a little disappointed to be honest. Couple of months in and its failed already (only been used a handful of times - domestic rather then trade).

Switches on and can see the beam but reads zero. Then doesn't switch off and have to pull the battery. Works again for a while, then same problem occurs. Having looked at the reviews around the web a few other people complained the same problem.
