The SoundDock™ system is designed to play your favourite tracks with crisp clarity, allowing you to discover subtleties in your music that used to simmer beneath the surface. A host of proprietary technologies add vitality and realism to your tracks. As a result, the music seems to come from a surprisingly wide soundstage. And an optimised port design delivers a full, rich sound that’s greater than you’d expect from a system this small.

A much more realistic price. I know they sound good but have long been overpriced. Think they came down to £149 recently direct from Bose.
#3
White is also available for same price but limited stock.

does this work with the New 3G I phone ?
#5
I'm always impressed with this set - they've got them in my local Currys (so you could try for a price match and save another £1), but they're stuck on maximum volume. Whenever anyone presses play the music booms out and even from the other side of quite a big store the music is still clear.

yes but no charge

Good price, but would be better if they would stop using cheap looking plastic, the bose sounds good as long as you don't want lots of bass.

Would They Work With First Generation Ipod Touch?

Yes it will! It will not charge the ipod touch 2nd Gen though. The 1st gen is fine!

if this is the original sound dock then it will work with a 2g iphone :)
#12
I have a 1st gen Ipod touch and it works fine,no problems charging,
#13
No Highs? No Lows? Must be Bose!
#14
This might sound a bit silly but does it have an alarm function?
#15
I suspect the old Sound Dock (version 1) utilises the "firewire" method of recharging so will not charge second generation iphones, ipod touchs and the new generation 4 ipod nano. (Not sure about the new ipod classic but there is a good chance this will also not charge.) If however you have an older model ipod this represents a huge saving and you can be confident the sound quality will be rather good.

Sigh.

You are playing lossy Mp3s through it...

Big assumption, maybe some of us keep lossless files instead and don't put up with second rate audio quality.

This is a more realistic price for this unit, but I would still say it is at the top end of what it is worth and only due to the perceived "Bose factor".

uumm, i'm quite happy with my 320 kbps mp3's on this......

what's the best lossless format then ???

maybe vinyl on a pink triangle turntable is still the way forward :-(

Missing the point.

I was responding to the poster who rolled out the tired Bose cliche whilst no doubt playing lossy media.

What are you using to playback lossless music on your ipod/iphone?

This looks great but i cant find out what specification it has. Does anyone know what the out put on the speakers are? Voted Hot

In terms of what? File format? ALAC which support for is built into the ipod, hence not the issue. Playing it? When I am out and about nothing special, in the car a reasonable system and at home, a very good system. It's about having an exact archive of my music however more than sound quality to me, but assuming all ipod users use low bitrate mp3s is a little bit of a mistake.

The best lossless format and the best one to use are possibly two different answers on this.

You are the first person I have ever met that really uses ALAC.

My point still stands, get arsey about the Bose sound quality is a bit silly when 99.9 people are playing back lossy

Lossless is all about FLAC for me

I know plenty of people that do, but it depends on how picky your friends are on music I guess.

Using apples proprietary codec over flac is nuts, imvho

Not at all, you can discuss it all day long, though. The fact is that if you want one copy of your music and own an Ipod, ALAC is the only route. It plays when I am out and about, with the ipod system in my car and on itunes, my main music player. It also plays on my MCE HTPC.

iPods have an alarm function built in (under clock settings iirc) so long as this dock is always left on it will turn on when the iPod starts the alarm.

Though this is true with most iPod docks.

Why would you use 320K when CD quality is 192K?

CD "quality" is not 192 kbps, not by a long stretch.
#31
This won't charge a 3G ipod as I've got one, but Bose customer service said that they are working on a fix so that it'll resolve this issue and offer it free of charge to customers

Absolutely true. I've gone down the Apple Lossless and 320kb Joint Stereo MP3 route depending on the material and how dear to my heart it is

It's all down to having the luxury of space though as I used to go with 192 or 256 VBR before I had a 160gb model and earphones to do the files justice.

this doesn't have an AUX in port, which made it useless in my eyes because you cannot connect it to anything other than iPods with a dock connector.

If that suit's you then fine, but you can't use laptops, non-apple mp3 players, iPod shuffles etc. Also if you break/lose your iPod and decide to get another brand, you won't be able to you this dock. And if apple change the docking system again you are stuffed.

i would recommend the Klipsch iGroove SXT - cheaper, better usability (aux in) and sound IMO , good amazon reviews. Also has just been reduced by £5 on amazon to £74.99 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Klipsch-iGroove-SXT-Docking-Speaker/dp/B000YICA2O

Which do you think would sound better, this, the Sony CMTBX70DBI DAB Micro System or the Cyrus Linkmini docking station, both also on here?

My brother's trying to decide between these three. :santa:

Remember this is an older version of sound dock, thats why they are going cheap, its a brick compared to the new version..., this model is going to be discontinued soon, there's a much better sleek newer version with a much improved remote is avilble for £219

Had the two next to each other yesterday, visually most people wouldn't notice the difference between the two so you're talking b*****ks about comparisons using the phrases 'brick' & 'sleek newer' ;-)
Agreed, the new remote has better functionality and i think there's better compatibility with iphones (but i might be wrong there).......
Would i pay an extra £80 for the new model, no chance, just in the same way that i preferred to buy the 5.5g Ipod for £105 three months ago rather pay £190 for the new model at the time.

Horses for courses as they say

If i had £219.99 burning a hole then i'd buy this Bose and the Klipsch

Enjoy....... i am ;-)

Just like to say thanks, this got me on hotdeals and I purchased one for the girlfriends christmas present!
They work with Ipod touch gen 1 and sound pretty neat for the price they are reduced to!

Heat and all that added!
