Bose customer service is the worst I've experienced. Paid £200 for mine a couple of years ago and it stopped working within 2 weeks. They picked it up and waited 10 days before examining it to confirm it was a problem with the machine and not my use of it before sending a replacement. Don't expect to be treated as a potential con-artist after spending £200 on a glorified speaker.

Sound is pretty good mind!

This will charge 3G iphone, but not iPhone 4 by looks of the specification

For the iPhone4 you need to buy the later Bose series, not the original......

So this is an old model....

If it failed within 2 weels why didn't you return it to where you bought it from for a replacement??

If a fault occurs in the 1st 28 days return it to where you bought it from.

"No highs, no lows, must be Bose"

Save your money for a B&W Zeppelin or better still buy a 3.5mm stereo jack to 2 x phono lead and plug your iPod into some real hi-fi.

I have the original Sound dock, and it does charge my iphone 4 and the ipod touch 4.
I bought this two years ago from Comet @ £124 so cold from me.
#11
If any of you manage to get to the US, these docks are typically available for the same price there in USD ($200) as they are here in GBP (£200) thereby making them significantly cheaper there..

So because you got an absolute bargain 2 years ago you vote this cold even though it is currently
the cheapest you can buy it anywhere.. So this to you is not a bargain or a hot deal which is what this site is about...
What a Plum...

This is still available and in stock at this price from Comet...

I purchased my original Bose Sound dock from JL. A year later I purchased an IPODTouch 3G and it didn't charge. So I contacted Bose customer services and after a few calls later they agreed to upgrade the onboard circuit that would allow it to charge the new IPOD Touch free of charge including carriage cost. So, you have to work at it and don't take the first no they give you and pursue it until you get a result.
Voted hot - still a good deal and sound is still superb.

Sorry, not ture, halfway there though. The Dock connector was changed in 2007 when the iPhone came out (to accommodate extra features on the iPhone/iPod Touch). So any charger that works on an iPhone will work on any iPhone or iPod Touch. And anything older than 2007 wont.

For some stupid reason, Bose still make "The Original SoundDock", which doesnt charge iPhones and modern iPods. Yet they have made a near identical successor called SoundDock II that does charge all iPhones/iPods.

Doesnt make any sense to still make the old "original" model

The Original sounddock, now also charges all models of iphone / itouch..... the internals have been upgraded to support all models, so no worries there. Great sound as well and a good price, yeah u could save up and buy something more expensive but that is not what the thread is about, its about wether or not the sounddock for £159.99 is a good deal or not which it is compared to other stockist.

Curious that the specifications on the John Lewis site do not say it will charge the newer iPhone or iPod!
