Good deal but not great

Seeing as people are trying to sell them second hand close to this price, this is a fantastic deal. Rrp was almost double this!
Amazing sound from such small speakers
#5
Great price and amazing sound. Hot from me.

I have them in white and would like another set in white for a 7.2 set up any ideas where I can get white?

they are quite old now though, so the RRP isn't a good gauge, saying that the quality is excellent, you won't beat them for the money :)
#7
Top sounding speakers for the money.

I have old tannoy 5.1 sfx speakers, would these be worth having to upgrade?

Google it, it's a frequently asked question with lots of good answers (won't post here would be a disservice as there's lots of info)

EDIT - looked into this and it's not worth it difference is minimal.

Hmmmmm tempted on getting rid of the Logitech Z5500s and plonking this in with a cheap Onky 5/6xxx amp for £80-£100 or so...

Anyone know if it's worth the bother? (Please don't comment unless you've heard Z5500 speakers before, they are computer speakers but they're about as good as it gets for computer speakers).

Not expecting anything earth shattering in quality. Ideally would replicate bedrooms setup diamond 9.1s/10 for centre/onkyo tx-sr608 but haven't got room for bookshelf speakers......hmmm...

Ta :)

Maybe a daft question but can you just link these to a blu-Ray player?

Yes, but via an AV amp.

Top end computer speakers to bottom end hifi speakers. Not sure to be honest but I'd always go the AV root.

So I might as well get the Tannoys as they go for £150...

Brilliant setup at this price

I have these and added two more to make a 7.1 system and for the size they are superb.
I paid quite a bit more than this so have some heat.

Yeah same here, it's the size that's appealing to be honest and by follow on of that the mounting/placement. The Z5500s mounting is diabolical/non standard mess.

One question, how are these different to the MKI of these, or were they just phased out with no notable genuine change as a google doesn't bring up any Vs comparison? Cheers.

Good question! I have the mk1 and always wondered if there was a big difference in sound quality between the two!
#23
absolutely cracking set of speakers - I got them for £59 factory reconditioned via amazon last year after some haggling and I would have paid 4x the price and thought I got a bargain. favourably reviewed as well.
#24
I wanted these 12 months ago but where out of stock everywhere I looked, ended up settling for Tannoy TFX.

Hot deal.

I bought these about 5 years ago, when they came out. At the time, they were the best sub £500 surround sound speakers in What Hifi. I didn't pay full price as I worked at Best Buy, but can agree, they sound awesome, even now. That sub is something else!

I think there was a revision to the sub as the older ones had subs that just flat out crackled and died.

And I think the SE basically just made them shiny. This is all from memory when I was doing my research a while ago though.

any ideas where I can get white?
Got the same question...anyone know what has happened to the supply of white ones?
Very tempted to get these anyway and sell on when the white ones come in stock.

Prefer the look of these over the new Tannoy SFX and these are £30 cheaper ...nearly ready to hit the button and buy oO

Looks like there a few of us hunting for the white version then - I spent a few unsuccessful hours scouring the net a few weeks back trying to find these in white, and apart from a couple of US sellers, it seems we are SOL.

As has already been mentioned, these are a few years old now which I guess is the issue...
#31
White version is probably discontinued
#32
Anyone selling a pair of these? I am looking for a pair to go with my BK Sub as a 2.1 system.

Have you thought about larger speakers for the 2? Maybe something with a bit more midrange for vocals, guitars, etc.

I wouldn't I've had nothing but problems with my Onkyo AVR.

I got a set of whites from this place via amazon.
Wall mounted the speakers, got everything wired up then the sub died after about 6 weeks.

Home AV wouldn't just swap out the sub everything had to come down and go back for testing leaving me with no sound for my projector set-up.

Instead i decided to reorder to ensure i got a replacement and sent the kit back to Amazon. It cost me an extra £10 and it came from the same place but as the white ones are like rocking horse dung i had little option.

In short Amazon great, home AV not so great, speakers great, unless you get a dodgy sub.

Same here, in white & black. Cracking speakers. Use them with the Sony 1040 & 1050 amps.

That's the only reason I haven't pulled the trigger on these speakers. Great reviews and great price but loads of reports of dodgy subs.
Seems these are end of the line so don't fancy the hassle of these being discontinued then my sub blowing leaving me with the hassle of a refund/sourcing a replacement.

My sub has been ok but I do occasionally notice a slight hum during quiet scenes at night when the house is also very quiet! Been meaning to look into it but never got around to it. Anyone else notice this?

Ive got the blacks on a sony 820 and the whites on a budget teac amp... I should really upgrade the teac because thats driving my projector setup

I have these and they are great but the sub seems to make too much noise when it switches on and off throughout movies etc. I have them connected to a Sony 1050 amp any tips anyone....maybe Ive got something setup wrong?
