First Post so not too sure how to do.

I was in John Lewis High Cross Leicester and saw both Bowers & Wilkins iPod speaker systems discounted.

Zeppelin Mini £239.00 (cheapest I have seen elsewhere £280) and
Zeppelin £339.00 (not looked for this myself but normally £399).

These are not normally discounted and prices are different on John Lewis website even. I have been after a Zeppelin Mini so bought it myself.

Hope that this helps someone.

Very good price, if this is your thing. Heat added.

Great price as these are never discounted. Any pics?
#3
Great price - wonder if a new one is coming out soon as John Lewis have never discounted this to date?
#4
Any discount on a B&W set of speakers is good news .... but have a look at Best Buy.co.uk ... they have them too and you can get 15% cashback on anything inc B&W's this weekend through Quidco or Topcashback !!

Ive heard the Audioengine A5's are far superior to these, and are a lot cheaper.

The Mini Zeppelin seems good enough to win the Best Buy in the £150 - £300 category:

Great deal - heat added.

When I see these speakers I always wonder, how good can an mp3 being played from an iPod sound? Surely that would be the limiting factor rather than the speakers through which it's being played?

Gave it heat anyway as this is the cheapest available.
#8
i have the mini in the kitchen. amazing sound and everyone comments on it when they come round.
#9
I have the big one, simply the best dock available...buy one
#10
i also have the big one and trust me you will not be disappointed and at this price,as has been said before ....buy one
#11

This is not really a problem - the quality of modern recordings has deteriorated markedly as lazy engineers carelessly pile on digital effects with no concern for a realistic sound stage. The effects of mp3 compression and the limitations of the iPod pre-amplification are small in comparison. Decent speakers and amplification can provide good quality sound from an mp3 source.

I've got the large Zeppelin Dock, rip a cd using apple lossless and be amazed at the sound quality, at this price it really is a no brainer :-)
#16
Awesome sound
#17
we have the large zeppelin in the kitchen and it is fab would never go back to a cheap dock , if you have the pennies get one you will not regret. :-)
#18
Great deal, as said, hardly ever any discounts! Managed to get one on a Best buy 20% day instore a while back & teamed up with an airport express from apple refurb store for £50ish!
#19
Both are great from a design point of view but the small one is rubbish for sound quality when you think of the other docks you can get in the £200+ price range.

Go for the real zep - £340 is the best price I've ever seen it.

Definitely not. Assuming the mp3s are V0 quality or above, speakers make far more of a difference. Once you get to a very high level of speakers or headphones, then the iPod will be the limiting factor, but not before and certainly not at this low level. (For example my mp3 player sounds far better through £1000 floorstander B&Ws than it does through £200 Kef bookshelf speakers.)

In general speakers are the component that has the most influence.

Just got my local John Lewis to price match the Leicester Store and got the Zeppelin for £339 - bargain and many thanks OP!

Just ordered one £339, many thnaks OP!

Good deal! N.B. IMO best dock is easily the Vita Audio R4 (with DAB also) which is completely incredible in terms of sound quality. RRP £550 in Walnut or £600 in Black/White but can often be picked up for £400 if you shop around!

From what I have heard, the new Beosound 8 blows this out of the water - especially as the Zepplin lacks mid-range - arguably though as most people like lots of emphasized treble and bass, along with high compression of modern recordings, true 'sound quality' probably doesn't matter with fashionable hifi any more!

The Beosound 8 is about £900 though! The reviews do seem good, but does looks a bit strange imo!

Hot!
I have the Mini, and the sound isn't great for £299 rrp. Definitely go for the full-fat version if you have space for it.
#27
Yes but to be fair, I was not comparing to this deal, but replying to jun1011's comment... I agree it looks strange but it is growing on me. Build quality and materials is what you would expect!

Apologies as I did mis-interpret your post! As you've highlighted, B&O has always been exceptional build quality and highly fashionable items - would still love one of their BeoCom 2 phones, but as with their Beosound 8 then there is always a hefty price tag attached!

No probs mate. just to add they are not just a pretty face though - they should also be remembered for very innovative technologies - first European stereo cartridge(late 50's), first electronic linear record player (early 70's), inventor of Dolby HX-PRO (early 80's), had the largest speaker test chamber in the world, full round the house integration since the 80's, and of course more recently the further development and realisation of class-d power amps and acoustic lens, quite a list for a tiny company that often gets bashed for being all showy and no guts!!

i listened to a lot of the docks in jl and admittedly the b&w zepps were the best
but i still thought they were a lot of money for what they are.so i started looking
around for something cheaper.i came across the kitsound boomdock.admittedly you cant listen to
it anywhere but i took a chance on it.result looks fantastic sounds even better(has adjustable bass and treble and the volume goes really high).cost £99.00 best hifi bargain ive ever got

You can get these from Dixons when flying out of the EU for a bit cheaper (around 325 I think for the original Zeppelin). I'm surprised how these have not come down in price over the eyars so didn't even buy it at that price. Has to be price fixing going on somewhere
#32
Am now listening to my mini and it's just superb. I have an Arcam/B&W set up, but the mini is pretty damn good. Has the B&W sound quality and it's easy to use. Was tempted by the full monty zep but am delighted with this one.

Bowers & Wilkins?
Where on Earth is "Loughboro Guy"?
Seriously though, B & W make great speakers and my brother and I wouldn't have any others!
I'm sure it will be a great system. Heat added.

Perfect time to get one with 15% cash back you can get via Quidco / TCB on BestBuy.co.uk this weekend ;-)

Good deal.
Spent ages researching docks last year and ended up settling for creative labs powered speakers which sound just as good and sometimes better than more expensive docks. If you dont mind your ipod/mp3 player not looking 'lifestyle' as it lays there with a wire hanging out, you'll save some cash.
#39
Tempted.

Hopefully it stays this price a lil while.

I think these will be available a little cheaper over the next few months because of 3rd party airplay becoming available so Bower and Wilkins will most likely rerelease these with that feature included. If you would be interested in that feature I would hold off as iOS 4.2 is just around the corner...
