Proper **** yourself stuff this!
Bargin price for those who can remember this - or still have nightmares.....

Based on the classic children's novel by John Masefield, this tale follows the adventures of Kay Harker, a young boy who finds himself lured into a world of fantasy and danger, after a chance encounter with an old Punch and Judy man.

A magical mix of animation and live-action, this spectacular production is guaranteed to thrill the fantasies of children and adults alike. Seldom is a story so sophisticated as to draw its audience, spellbound, into a series of such enchanting adventures as those we share with young Kay Harker.

As he travels home on the train for the Christmas holidays Kay Harker has the strangest feeling something very mysterious is about to happen... there is snow on the wind and wild dogs are roaming the countryside. Then a chance meeting with an old Punch and Judy man, Cole Hawlins, the guardian of the elixir of life and a shabby box of powers, pulls Kay into an array of fantastic worlds where he encounters ancient heroes, wolves, Romans, rats, flashing rings and flying ponies.

This memorable production was first shown just before Christmas 1984. The enchanting adventures and magical atmosphere hold fond memories for many, and are sure to delight a new generation of children. Now available for the first time on DVD with a myriad of special features, you can enjoy this very special production for years to come.

Yeah great stuff, This and "The Children Of Green Knowe" unlike the crap they put on TV for kids now, Does the BBC think that kids are really that stupid nowadays with presenters running around shouting "Boogies", If you have kids this is well worth the money for some fantastic family entertainment over the holidays.

I dunno mate, im not sure the kids of this generation could take this! The intro scared me for life and listening to the xmas carol Noel was never the same again!

Great price and a great programme...though I just paid £10.99 for a box set with this on(play.com)...but it had The snow queen and Nania on too (bbc versions, which I personally think have more heart!):)

If you like this quality TV check out some of the Seasonal Christmas Ghost Stories the Beeb made in the 60's/70's.

I'm sure YouTube will oblidge!

"The Signalman", "A Warning to the Curious" and "Whistle and I'll come to you" were release on DVD by the BFI years back.

If you ever see the DVD's at a boot fair grab them as they sell for over £80 because they are out of print.

The row of houses used for the backdrop of this series (as I recall) was on a busy road in huntingdon next door 9almostr to the old bus depot!
..ruined the series for me as a kid!

I had nightmares for years because of part of this where (my memory is a bit sketchy, and warped by the nightmares) some stone man carrying a baby walking over a river turned around and gave some evil look?? Does that make sense to anyone? It sh&t me up good when I were a lad I tell ya, think ill get it for the young-ens in the family to enjoy at chrimbofest.

i agree this is properly done kids tv.
Cant believe it's 25 years old.

Truly a great story and the production was so atmospheric, it drew you right in.

A great one for pre-christmas viewing

If you have kids with some intelligence, show them this.

I remember getting this from the video shop all the time when I was about 6, but only as I had a little box I used to call my box of delights, don't remember what it is actually about! I remember when Smurfs and magic flute was on every Xmas, I think they must of destroyed that when the snowman came out!

Bargain or wot!

I bought this exact DVD a few years ago when it was first released, it's been unavailable for a while since until recently. Bloody fantastic, and every bit as good as I remembered as a kid. Even as an adult, the scarier bits still kinda creeped me out! lol

Plus 1 from me for nostalgia.

TV companies underestimate kids these days and fill their TV with, frankly, mostly loud and colourful garbage.

This has always reminded me of being so excited just before Christmas - I haven't seen it since I was 8!! Wow that's such a blast from the past! Heat added!
