The Germans speaking English is only one of the inadequacies of this film.... from the immaculte striped prison outfits to the fact the 2 boys can seemingly pop in and out of the camp at will... and the pretty unrealistic weight of most of the prisoners! FFS, David Thewlis is one of the thinnest people in the film and he's the German Commandant. I'm not being flippant.. that's how little attention to detail this film shows. It couldn't have been less realistic if the camp inmates had SKY television.
An excellent and compelling book. .. reduced to an appallingly badly made film that simply opts for the " let's tug the heart strings when the little boy dies " finale... It deals with the most appalling case of genocide ever perpetrated on mankind shockingly badly.

How can so many pieces fit in the same spot in a jigsaw puzzle is beyond me.
BTW.
The other day I left my dog outside Tesco and a comet fell on it breaking it in two. :p
No one else injuried.
" It's a hard film to watch.... things like this should not be forgotten ".
I'd agree with you.... that being the case, why the heck do you feel the need to watch it in full blu-ray glory???????
No one doubts it's harrowing subject matter... but while Schindler's List absolutely assaults you and leaves you emotionally drained..... TBISP has ZERO depth to it.
BTW... one of the glaring errors is when the father arrives literally seconds after the boy had entered the "shower-rooms". The nazis used Zyklon B...which took anywhere from 12-20 minutes to kill everyone... so there was every chance he could have saved the child.
Again... just one of the many slovenly errors in a film which opts for tugging at heart strings rather than look at the issues in any depth........... almost up there with the movie portraying Auschwitz as being in Germany....... :(
